London Mayor Sadiq Khan has sharply criticized U.S. President Donald Trump, calling him “racist, sexist, misogynistic,” and “Islamophobic” in response to Trump’s latest remarks targeting London.

Speaking after the president’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, Khan remarked that he was “living rent free” in Trump’s mind.

During the speech, Trump renewed his longstanding attacks on Khan, claiming London was being mismanaged by a “terrible mayor” who had fundamentally “changed” the city.

Among the more controversial assertions made by Trump was the suggestion that London aspired to adopt Sharia law, Islam’s religious legal system—a claim that lacks any supporting evidence.

The president said: “I look at London, where you have a terrible mayor, terrible, terrible mayor, and it’s been changed, it’s been so changed.

“Now they want to go to Sharia law. But you are in a different country, you can’t do that.”

When asked about recent criticisms from the U.S. president, who had just completed his second state visit to the UK, Sir Sadiq Khan responded pointedly, saying: “I believe President Trump has demonstrated racist, sexist, misogynistic, and Islamophobic tendencies.”

He continued by reflecting on the president’s repeated focus on him, remarking that many people might be questioning “why this Muslim mayor, who leads a liberal, multicultural, progressive, and successful city, seems to occupy so much space in Donald Trump’s mind.”

“When individuals speak, act, and behave in certain ways, you have to take them at their word,” Khan added.

President Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One en route back to Washington, had blamed rising crime rates in London, describing them as “through the roof”—on Khan’s leadership, and further criticized his handling of immigration, calling it a “disaster.”

In response, a spokesperson for the mayor issued a strong defence of the capital: “London is the greatest city in the world, safer than many major U.S. cities, and we’re proud to welcome a record number of American citizens choosing to move here.”

The tension between Khan and Trump dates back to 2015, when Trump, prior to taking office, called for a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the United States.

Khan’s stance on the president contrasts sharply with that of his Labour colleagues, who have aimed to maintain diplomatic ties with the U.S. administration, particularly on matters such as trade and tariffs.

The UK steel industry, for instance, has faced a 25% tariff, lower than the 50% imposed on other nations.

Their strained relationship also created an uncomfortable moment for the prime minister during a press conference in Scotland, when Trump referred to Khan as a “nasty person” who had done “a terrible job.” Sir Keir Starmer, present at the event, responded with a chuckle: “He’s a friend of mine.”

Despite the criticism, President Trump concluded, “I think he’s done a terrible job, but I do hope to visit London.”

It is about ideology not people
The Nigerian education system is largely modelled after the the English system so your claim about having one better education over the other is wide off the mark
It is also incorrect to claim that you are not taught the doctrines etc of other religions in Nigerian schools. Did you ever attend one? You're even taught traditional religion
That said, I make bold to say you cannot be taught all the religion doctrines and beliefs of the world in class. That's a barefaced lie. You can only skim the surface at best.
And to show that the UK education does not cure you of tribal or religious bigotry, you are here assuming my tribe based on my comments. For while it is true that Yorubas have learned to be more tolerant of other religions, it is not learned within the walls of a classroom. Also, those whom you seek to label me as are not the worst when it comes to religious intolerance in Nigeria. The worst are actually from the part of the country that embraced sharia and Yorubaland was recently a recipient of such agitations recently. If you have not experienced Nigerian education, it sounds racist to summarily dismiss it as inferior to British system. I'm sure part of the critical thinking has birthed one of the highest crime rate in one of the world's capital cities
The fact remains that sharia has gained ground in London as the years roll by. London is even now more notorious for sharia compliance than Istanbul

If you taught in Nigerian schools you should have known that all the religions are introduced to school students contrary to your earlier claim that students are only allowed to learn just a single religion

Anyways, Nigeria's unemployment problem is due to cronyism and corruption not educational ability. Afterall we have seen those who went to UK for higher degrees come back to Nigeria and they can hardly make a difference in the system. Jews have their private courts, as do Catholics and Muslims, but you can't go using whatever law those religions privately have to argue a case in our British courts. Note. Even our politicians are reluctant to do God because it turns the voting public off. And our Mayor Sadiq Khan is not and can not introduce Sharia law in London because he has no powers to do so, and he's smart enough to know he wouldn't win an election if he tried.
