Ibadan Airport Back In Operation After Closure For Modernisation by adenigga(op): 1:54am On Sep 25, 2025
After five months of being closed down for upgrade to international standards, Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, has received its first flight.

The aircraft, which is an advanced member of the presidential flight scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025, arrived at the airport at exactly 9:14 am on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

A statement by the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde Oyo State, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said with the successful landing, the airport was ready to efficiently handle high-profile flights safely.

Olanrewaju stated: “President Bola Tinubu is expected in Ibadan on Friday for the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

“With the presidential flight scheduled to follow soon, this inaugural flight since March 2025 sets a positive precedent for future arrivals and departures.

“Recall that Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, had in September 2024, performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the airport upgrade.

“Makinde had said at the event that the project, when completed, would connect the state to the global market.

“The governor had also noted that, ‘The upgrade of the airport is expected to enhance air travel operations and provide a reliable transportation network for both business and leisure travellers, positioning the state for economic growth and development.’

“Earlier, the Makinde administration had upgraded the airport’s VIP lounge and provided a fire truck. It also installed a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage and dispensing facility.”

That is a great one. Let each zone develop their zone and let there be healthy competition that is when a country can move forward. Let there be light in Nigeria good God

Is that a photo of the airport as it is today.

I thought it was remodelled, so it should look different.

Lazy job by the Vanguard.

Beautiful, let me use this opportunity to say this, I've been waiting for front page opportunity like this.

I've noticed that our people love to carry any news that look bad and usually keep mute on good news, most especially when it about our Country and our Economy.

Why am I saying this?

Lately most of our Banks are reporting huge profits but the news didn't trend enough.

But last year or so when they were reporting lost, it was all over the news. People are mocking government at the national level, saying all sorts of things.

But now that they are reporting profits, why is it that people badmouthing now keep mute and didn't use the same energy to celebrate the positive report.

I'm not saying is not good to criticize government when necessary, at least to checkmate and put them on their toes.

But we should not be turning blind eyes on good reports.

God Bless Nigeria.

This airport that they always beg people to come and use that cows and goats use to sleep on the runway because of poor patronage.

You must be referring to the obidients gang like racoon, mrvitalis, givedemwotowo, brendaniel et al. grin

We don't need them to say good things about the country. They don't matter in the equation of things.

Negative news is what give them joy.

Positive news is what give us joy.

Tinubu till 2031.

Hmmm
Looking at it
Because of the close proximity of Lagos and ibadan

Will this airport really thrive
Coupled with the fact that there is a train running from Lagos to ibadan

Upgraded is ok.
Have landed and takeoff from this airport so many times while on flight test and Ilorin especially.
If the runway is now extended and airport facilities upgraded it's a good and welcome development for my good people of Ibadan land and environment.
But haters of good thing will not see all this development than find away to soil it.
