Should I prepare for shortages?

Nigeria's 650,000 bpd Dangote Refinery faces a prolonged gasoline outage after reports that repairs to its catalytic cracking unit could take two to three months, far longer than the earlier two-week estimate. The refinery's Residue Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit (RFCCU), the key gasoline-making unit, has been offline since August 29 following catalyst leaks, with Reuters citing IIR Energy analysis as saying that major equipment replacement is required, extending downtime into November.

This is what killed our refineries. By the time a maintenance is completed, another maintenance is due.

We can't do any of the following if it don't work.

But now Africa’s largest refinery is beginning to disrupt Europe’s Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) markets. According to OPEC, the Dangote refinery has cut down Nigeria's imports of petroleum products from Europe. According to experts, the Dangote refinery might end the decades-long gasoline trade from Europe to Africa, valued at $17 billion per year.

Hopefully Dangote will get on top of this, or he'd end up an unreliable seller to potential customers.

I have not seen the western press being Dangote's problems here. I must say, and in fact think the problems he's facing are homegrown, like the refusal to sell him Nigerian crude oil in Naira, and Pengassan striking so he can not produce.

I want to believe so but I haven't got sufficient evidence. Please provide if you got.

No unfounded conspiracies please.

I also don't have any evidence but from the letter you can see unit sabotage was specifically mentioned

Truth, if you must know, is that an international cabal exists whose focus is stacking up odds against a functioning dangote (or any for that matter) refinery in Nigeria for obvious reasons. Dangote said all his life he’s been a fighter and he’s not about to give up unlike Otedola who has his cash stashed away in Monaco!

I don't have any evidence to prove "that an international cabal exists whose focus is stacking up odds against a functioning dangote", but ignoring the possibility would be naive. One just need look at our government owned moribund steel mill and refineries, and the fact that when we found oil and made lots of money we were wrongly advised not to invest in our own industry and just buy foreign because it benefits them. Thankfully, Dangote overcame, and his refinery now functions.

I do have lots of evidence that proves Nigeria itself is stacking odds up against Dangote however, and thankfully, he is not giving up as you say, and that delights me.

Nigeria needs more fighters like him.

Sabotage by who? Were the workers sacked implicated and found guilty of any sabotage. The workers need to band together, get a lawyer and file a class action suit against Dangote for wrongful termination. Even almighty Federal Government were ordered to re-emply unilorin wrongfully terminated for union activities, much less Dangote.

I have always supported Dangote against sabotage by the government, NNPC, pengassan, etc., but I don't support his high handedness in sacking his workers for joining a union. He should have called them and solicit their support against the saboteurs.
