As a foreign or local investor, you go through the right process to purchase a landed property and start development and some months or years later,it's being destroyed because someone from the ministry claims the building is on the right of way! My question is why were these investors not told from the beginning by the same ministry about the nature of the land? How do you expect the same investors to invest in that state? |

DatNiggaDaz:Nah. You are the one not making any sense, in what position does the other guy stand for him to be making unnecessary assertion on behalf of the owner of the building being demolished by the government, Is he trying to justify that he knows better than the professionals doing their work? If he is do certain that the government are illegally demolishing an acclaimed illegal structures he could have well go and fight the government on behalf of the owner rather than displaying crass and ignorance on social media that is another form of high level of nuisances |

goslowgoslow:If you are rational, you will know that someone who's going to invest billions in a property in lagos will not have a problem getting government approval. Except the LASG is now a wayo govt scamming Nigerians with fake approvals. |

Those saying the builders didn't get government approval don't really understand the the level of rot in Lagos state. This same Lagos state government has been known to illegally take over people's lands in the past. Buying land in Lagos where the government will wake up one morning and strip you of ownership is a huge risk

Getting approved in Lagos can be exhausting and cash intensive. They need to streamline the process and make the process transparent. I have a family member who has been trying to get approval for over 4 years. WizardOfNG: |

You have to do a search to determine all the encumbrances attaching to the land, not subject to government acquisition and gazetted for residential and/farm settlements (which almost always turns to residential) is what you are looking for The ones I saw done in Alausa many moons ago was 10k per site. But then don’t hold your breath cos one Governor gazetted and another revoked the gazette. The Government needs to do more to streamline the approval process and similar to what happened in Kano not have political differences taken out on the masses. bentenny: |

ADAMUdaCOWBOY:My friend, work with reality. Corruption is a real and major problem for Nigeria which won't vanish overnight. That said, whenever and wherever illegal structures are discovered, they should be demolished. That's the substantive point. The example of the UK is contextual to show it is standard practice to demolish illegal structures everywhere. |

omoredia:Why are you asking me about that? Can't you write Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos State Commissioner of environment,or Commissioner for Physical Planning, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, for a response like an educated and practical person? Because I insist Lagos is within her right to demolish illegal properties, without facing allegations of "we are being targeted" by one specific group of people alone, makes me the Lagos State Commissioner of environment or physical planning? |

omoadeleye:Well-said and the crux of the matter. Do things the right way and follow legal provisions 100% and things will be fine. lets be honest with ourselves, fact is that most Nigerians are lawless people who want to profit from lawlessness yet are quick to play victim when things go wrong. In a nation with scammers everywhere, critically important for buyers or potential builders of residential or commercial properties to do due diligence. As the saying goes "caveat emptor". Buyers beware. |
