Nigerian sensation Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has been crowned the number one female Afrobeats artist of the past year by global streaming giant Spotify. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The announcement not only cements her status as one of the genre’s leading voices but also highlights her influence on the global Afrobeats movement.
Ayra Starr Leads Spotify’s Female Afrobeats Ranking

In Spotify’s newly released list of the Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists, Ayra Starr secured the top spot, followed by Grammy Award-winning singer Tems.

The rest of the ranking featured:

Libianca (American-Cameroonian breakout star) – 3rd

Aya Nakamura (Malian-French superstar) – 4th

Darkoo (British-Nigerian artist) – 5th

Interestingly, South African breakout star Tyla, who recently dominated Afrobeats award ceremonies, was absent from Spotify’s ranking.
Nigerian Dominance in Latin America

Spotify also unveiled its Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, with Nigerians once again taking the lead.

Rema – 1st

Ayra Starr – 2nd

CKay – 3rd

Burna Boy – 4th

Wizkid – 5th

The platform described Afrobeats as a “cultural export reshaping the global music scene,” noting its surging popularity across Latin America.

My observation about most of the Afro beat artists. They mostly have hyped lyrical songs not inspired lyrical songs

SHAED song titled Trampoline, I still find it hard to believe that Trampoline was only mentioned once in the song.

Our Afro beat artists would have mentioned the word more than 30 times

Am I the only one who thinks this lady is over hyped and over pushed in the music space courtesy of rich and talented producer Don jazzy?.
Ive one time tries to feel her songs, but lyrically they're all trash plus it's more local and over too-do,except that vibe killer abi na bloody Samaritan track.
Anyways congratulations to her.

Nice promotion but honestly, I don't count Ayra Star, Rema, Portable and Shallipoppy as musical artists. This is my personal opinion, not hating in anyway.

Meanwhile, it is an aberration for you to even rank her alongside Simi. If you understand music, then you will know say Simi na musical goddess.

Olamide and yemi alade have both been nominated for Grammy, they have International appeal not in the Pop genre, it's based on the quality of their songs and arrangements, they are not local artists oh .

Brother, Olamide is top notch, he only didn't break into the American Music world because he chose not to dilute his style, he was original. He didn't make himself available for exploitation. So the American producers dumped him. He is okay anyway.

Yemi's songs have always been lyrically shallow. She puts her looks and body on display to attract attention.

Simi has a lot to offer but she seems not to want to push. She is contented with marriage. She has a great voice and can take some time to write great songs if she desires but I think she lost the vision after marriage.

Please get your facts right. Olamide and Yemi Alade aren't just local materials especially Yemi Alade who was a Grammy Nominee in 2024.

Her target audience isn't Nigeria and she's doing very well for herself and also sings in a variety of languages such as Igbo, Yoruba, French, Swahili and Portuguese.
