The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has declared a nationwide strike, directing all its members in offices, companies, institutions, and agencies to withdraw their services starting from 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, News360 Nigeria reports.

In a resolution reached at its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday, the union also instructed members stationed in field locations to halt operations from 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and commence a 24-hour prayer vigil.

The directive affects all control room operations, panel duties, and outfield activities, with no intervention permitted unless safety of personnel and assets is at stake, subject to clearance from the National Secretariat.

The resolution further mandated that all gas and crude oil supplies to Dangote Refinery be cut off with immediate effect.

In addition, International Oil Companies (IOCs) were ordered to ramp down production and suspend gas supplies to the refinery and associated petrochemical facilities.

PENGASSAN said the prayer vigil should focus on asking God to give leaders the courage to compel Dangote and his associates to obey the laws of the country.

“No man is bigger than our country. An injury to one is an injury to all,” the statement concluded.

PENGASSAN made the resolution after today’s NEC meeting, resolving:

”All PENGASSAN members working across field locations are to withdraw services effective 06:00hrs on Sunday, 28th of September, 2025 and commence 24-hour prayers. This includes all control room operations, panel operations, and outfield personnel.

”All PENGASSAN members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies should withdraw all services effective 00:01 on Monday, 29th of September, 2025.

”All IOC branches must ramp down gas production and supply to Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals.

“The prayer point should include a call to God Almighty to give courage to those in authority to rein in Dangote and his co-travelers on the need to obey the laws of our country. No man is bigger than our country, An injury to one is an injury to all.”

PENGASSAN is our enemy and the people must rise up against it. When refineries were not working and their members were being paid for doing no work and our economy was bleeding under the fraudulent subsidy scheme PENGASSAN said and did nothing. Now that a citizen built a refinery and things are getting better they greedily want check off dues from his refinery and are ready to sabotage our economy just for that purpose!

Dangote must obey the laws of the Land. Workers in the Petroleum industry must be allowed to be unionized.

Dangote is not above Nigerian Law. He must run his refinery within the jurisdiction of the employment laws in Nigeria.

It should be optional and the employers should let the employees know that they will not entertain unionisation for what ever reason before employing them.
So that anyone taking the job will know he/she will not be joining any labour union.

So much ignorance in one post. Most Nigerians like to comment on what they know absolutely nothing about.

NNPC doesn't issue license to refineries, infact they are competitors with Dangote refinery.

Secondly, unionization of workers isn't a privilege, rather it's the worker's right guaranteed in our constitution and also in compliance with the ILO(International Labor Organization) regulation.

We have IOCs operating in Nigeria where we have PENGASSAN as a union.

Harmony and progress have always been sustained. Why does Dangote feel that he can hire and fire Nigerians arbitrarily?

Are they slaves to only be spoken to? Who does that?

Fire Nigerians as if they are in a labor camp? Come on guys, Nigerians can't be treated that way abroad and be treated the same way in their God given land.

This act shall be resisted to the end. Unionization of Nigerian workers doesn't mean death to the organization.

This is evident in other IOCs who have been operating in Nigeria for over 50yrs and have had their workers unionized.

If Dangote doesn't have ulterior motives, why is he afraid of the Union?

Not like any confrontation has taken place yet. Let him go back to the dialogue table and discuss.
