In many Nigerian churches, night vigils have become the go-to solution for every problem. Need a job? Vigil. Looking for a spouse? Vigil. Financial breakthrough? Vigil. Almost everything seems to end with “come for night prayers and your miracle will happen.” But the question is, is this practice biblical, or is it just a tradition we’ve embraced? Yes, we know Jesus prayed all night in Luke 6:12. We also see Paul and Silas praying and singing at midnight in Acts 16:25. But none of these examples were tagged as special “breakthrough vigils.” They were simply times of communion with God. Read my full thoughts here: https://www.psalm.com.ng/Should-Christians-Attend-Night-Vigils-Breakthroughs Today, however, many Christians see vigils as spiritual keys that automatically unlock blessings, forgetting that prayer is not a vending machine. The Bible teaches that God answers prayers according to His will, not because of the timing (1 John 5:14). That being said, vigils can be powerful moments of focus. At night, distractions are fewer, and Christians can pour their hearts out in prayer. But when vigils are turned into a formula for financial or material breakthroughs, they risk turning prayer into superstition. So I ask: are vigils truly a biblical pathway to breakthroughs, or have we made them into cultural events that satisfy our emotions more than God’s command? What do you think? |

I think the only thing I'd get after night vigil is tiredness the next day, and an inability to concentrate and do my job effectively and efficiently, and I'd be prone to accidents which is an added cost to my employer who will be pïssed of because I'd be much less productive than if I'd just slept. In fact, I think break through is the last thing I'd be receiving when he sacks me for poor performance and I've now added joblessness to whatever I was looking for at night vigils. Hey, at least there'd be one positive when that happens. I wouldn't need to do night vigil only and can 24-7 when my landlord kicks me out for not paying rent. Sorry, I think it's stupïd. But considering there's not much alternative night life in most places, I see it's entertainment value if in moderation. |

Why do witches & Wizards, Marine powers and occultic people organise their assembly at night to carry out their evil assignment, which do manifest during the day. This is a battle of two world. |

budaatum:😂 You really cracked me up with that “24-7 vigil when the landlord kicks me out” line. I get the sarcasm, and honestly you’re right that lack of sleep can ruin productivity. But on the flip side, some people see night vigil as a way to pray with focus when distractions are fewer. The problem comes when it replaces wisdom and responsibility. Prayer should strengthen you, not scatter your life. Balance is key. |

samwash:Interesting point about “two worlds.” It’s true that in many cultures night is seen as a time of spiritual activity. Even the Bible mentions Jesus praying at night and some key events happening at night. But we also have to remember that prayer itself is powerful any time of the day. The strength of prayer isn’t really about the hour, it’s about the heart and faith behind it. Night vigils can be useful, but they’re not the only way God works. |

Psalmcomng:Balance is key. Least as far as work goes. But better perhaps be done by 9, in bed by 10, well rested to wake for aluwala in the morning and work for my own breakthrough. I think Nigeria suffers from lack of night school where people can go to learn breakthrough and live, than staying awake all night yelling to God and disturbing the neighbours one should be responsible to. That definitely lacks wisdom and is therefore unjesusy. It's unbiblical too. Unless you were not cursed.

You can pray at night if it's convenient for you but claiming it's mandatory is a scam! |

Pray anytime you feel like, as you're led. |

samwash:It's a misconception that you must be praying at the very same time evil attacks happen. Bible didn't say that. Unless the Holy Spirit stirs you up to pray at any certain time - it doesn't matter when you pray. You have the liberty to form your own prayer routine that works for you. You'll be enjoying your sleep at night and that evil arrow will go back to the sender. But as your faith is, so shall it be unto you. |

All these churches disturbing me with noises I think it's high time I reported them to LASEPA to come lock them up for just a few days! Is it a must to use speakers for vigils or even other services? Your congregation is in the church not outside! Do why disturb those sleeping? |

AntiChristian:Do call to salat done within the walls of your mosques or outside? You seems to forget that the rest of your four fingers are pointing back at you in this case!🤔

MaxInDHouse:Yes, in the mosque I pray in there are no speakers at all. We use our mouth to call the adhan. So what else do you have to say? |

AntiChristian:Do you believe Mecca is where your religion started from? Do worshipers of your Allah use megaphones in Mecca to call for salat? Are you saying people using megaphone to call for salat aren't true Muslims? Answer these questions sincerely to prove you know better than Arabians. |
