Bandits Kill 12, Including Baale of Ogbayo, in Kwara Attack

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that no fewer than 12 people, including the Baale of Ogbayo, were killed on Sunday morning during a violent bandits’ attack on Oke-Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

How the Attack Happened

Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said the incident occurred around 7 a.m. when heavily armed men stormed the Ogbayo area, shooting indiscriminately and targeting members of the local vigilante group. A combined team of police operatives and personnel of the National Forest Security Service (NFSS) responded swiftly to distress calls but found that 12 vigilantes, including the Baale of Ogbayo, had already been killed.

According to the statement, four injured victims were taken to the hospital for urgent treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated.

Police Response and Condolences

Ejire-Adeyemi noted that the police, working with the military and NFSS, had intensified manhunt operations to track down the perpetrators. She assured residents that the command would ensure justice for the victims.

Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo described the killings as “heinous” and pledged the force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property in Kwara. He commiserated with the bereaved families and called for calm as investigations continue.

Community Reactions

Sunday’s attack adds to a growing wave of violent raids in parts of Kwara, particularly in the North and South, where vigilantes and business owners have increasingly become targets. Local sources told journalists that more than a dozen vigilantes and hunters were killed, with some residents allegedly kidnapped. Videos circulating online showed bodies of slain vigilantes lying on the ground.

A member of the vigilante group, identified as Ajetunmobi, accused officials of downplaying the scale of the attack, insisting that the community had suffered heavier losses than initially acknowledged.

If the core southwest like Oyo and other neighbouring states know what is good for them, they should start placing heavy defence on the borders with Kwara.

Kwara is gone. If you don't stop them there, na Oyo next, after that hmmm...abeg make una look Nigeria map very well. These people are cooking something up, and the North are playing politics with it.

Kwara ilorin had been gone long time ago. Not today. Af.onja sold kwara to the emirate and the chicken has come home pay homage. If you know the history of ilorin, you know it's be an easy target for bandit. What benue and plateau are facing will be a child play on what's coming to kwara. In fact it will be much easier for terrorist to overrun kwara than attacking benue or plateau

Please may I repeat my question. Why is Federal Government not saying anything about these killings in Kwara to be precise? What is happening in this country. No body is saying anything or seems to be doing anything. I am confused
