FIFA Punishes South Africa For Fielding Ineligible Player In World Cup Qualifier by Newsgeek24(op): 4:27pm On Sep 29, 2025

South Africa has been handed a 3-0 defeat by FIFA after fielding an ineligible player in their World Cup qualifying match against Lesotho, News360 Nigeria reports.

The Bafana Bafana had originally secured a 2-0 victory on March 21 in Polokwane, but the result has now been overturned. The decision drops South Africa to second place in Group C of the African Zone qualifiers, behind Benin on goal difference, while Lesotho stays in fifth place.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee ruled that South Africa breached Article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code by playing midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who had already accumulated two yellow cards in earlier matches against Benin and Zimbabwe.

As part of the sanctions, the South African Football Association has been fined 10,000 Swiss francs ($12,536).

However, the body still has the right to appeal the ruling before the FIFA Appeals Committee.

Unfortunately, Super Eagles are not well positioned to take advantage of South Africa's demotion.

Do you know that till date the NFF have not explained to him why they sacked him after asking for reasons for his sack.

Rohr too no be good coach, always saying squad is a young team, ok we hear but achieve with the team na lie.
I don't know why Peisero left, his team is still what is in use till today maybe he would have done better.

Can that take us to the World Cup? The answer is still no. There are alot of things wrong with that group aside from our bad display. Two countries Lesotho and Zimbabwe are playing their home matches in SA is that not additional advantage to SA? And NFF never see anything wrong with that

You say he is a mediocre yet he qualified the super eagles to the last World Cup play offs and every Afcon tournament without the use mathematical calculations and probability estimation. I prefer that unlike those of you that prefer free flowing attacking beautiful football that the eagles were not experts on which you give as the reasons why he should be sacked.

You are waiting until he beat us again at home and qualify Benin to their first ever World Cup to convince you he is not a mediocre

What exactly is this present set of Super Eagles going to the world cup for? To receive certificate of participation i guess. They should go and sit down and allow teams that truly deserve it to go through.

Their non participation will even save Nigeria millions because Sport ministry won't have nothing to loot in the name of going to the world cup.

How Many did S.A lose prior to this that we think they'd start losing a home match now. Even if anything, how about Benin republic?? Nigeria has no hope. No need for us to start calculating

Or will others just be losing and only Nigeria will be winning?

Worst is second place may be useless because they need just top 4 in second place to compete for best qualifier and we have people with 19 and17 points there while Nigeria is on a paltry 11 on 3rd position.

South Africa will win their home match and at least draw their away match, and garner at least 18 points.
Super Eagles may not even be able to beat Benin Republic.

We actually have all it takes to win the world cup but na coach we no get, wetin we get na assembler of players from abroad, u good o, u no good o come and play, last last put the blame on the players.

A coach should show what he is made of by the quality of players and the technical play in the field, what is Iwobi doing in that team, always playing to lose ball
