trollx:I suffered in Nigeria o. Thankfully I learnt tech then that was my saving grace. If I didn’t lock in that 2020, I don’t even know how my life would have been now. I would have probably killed myself 😂 |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 2:17pm On Sep 23, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Lol. You won't kill yourself O, cos when there's life there's hope. I'm surprised that you weren't even into tech when you left and abandoned your job in Europe, and came back to Nigeria where there's no any hope. You get mind Boss, I swear🥱 |

trollx:lol I would have killed myself especially with the kind of pride I have inside me. I rather be a dead man than live as a poor man in this world and if the poverty no even get hope of escape for me there’s no need to continue living. |

trollx:We know this , my concern is those people who agent will milk millions of naira telling them there many jobs in Brazil. Most Nigerians wants a place they can easily be making a living and earning, if it's for only documents or one have money for biz Brazil can be okay but not to go work but not for someone who wants to work. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 7:54pm On Sep 25, 2025 |
oluyemi123:Yes, you're right about those agents lying to their clients all because of money. There are jobs just that the pay might not be encouraging, not much menial jobs that pays well the way it is in other western countries. That's why most people opt for business instead. But if you have high demand skill and can speak the language, definitely you'll enjoy Brazil. |

I grew up poor in Nigeria, so I learned to guard every little thing I get. Life was hard, so I always think about tomorrow. I worry I may not get money again. That feeling made me keep everything to myself. Since I moved to Chile, that mindset still follows me. I am very careful with money. My girlfriend even told me I am stingy. That surprised me. For example, I share a small room even though I can afford a better place. I could pay three years’ rent with one month’s salary, but I still stay where I am. I do not spend on clothes. I have never taken a vacation here. I mostly stay in my neighbourhood and only went to Santiago one day for a job interview. It is not because I do not have money. Poverty in Nigeria left deep fears in me. I would rather protect what I have than risk losing it. Sometimes the fear is so bad I would rather not face a future with poverty. People may call me crazy, but these are the scars I carry. I am trying to change, but it is taking time. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by emmaodet: 12:32am On Sep 26, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Don't beat yourself over it. You will come out of it with time. You will loosen up. I call it Post-Poverty Trauma (PPT). Where you are scared of spending unnecessarily due to long exposure to hardship. Something very very common in Nigeria. Reason why when you loosen up and start spending, families and friends in Nigeria always look at someone as wicked or wasteful because they believe you have to be extremely careful in spending it and should only be investing - their investment is mostly to dey buy land and mould block they build yeye houses sef. There is this fear deep down you that keeps reminding you that poverty is lurking just behind the corner breathing down on you ready to pounce on you if you nogede. It seems you are feeling the heavy breathing of poverty just close by waiting for you to make just a single simple mistake. Have been there, I was there but slowly I started loosening up. It was from buying 15k clothes to over 40k ones, sneakers started upgrading, perfumes sometimes over 100k and so many more. Food taste and choices started changing, attending events/vacations/movies at cinemas and so many more. My wife observed me for a long time a day and just said have changed a lot. We don't argue about money again nor does she have to ask and ask or talk and talk before I do small small things. I just do them quietly even beyond her expectations and she always get surprised. Chaii.... God punish poverty and Nigerian Politicians .... Amen |

tensazangetsu20:So Chile is better than the UK, Spain, Germany and France? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 6:54pm On Sep 26, 2025 |
Geofavor:Yes by one million times. Let’s even remove my remote job. I have worked here in chile with a local Chilean company and what I was earning after tax I can’t earn that in Europe. My first job here in Chile was for a Spanish company and I rejected it to stay here in Chile. In my own opinion, the only countries better than Chile are Switzerland and the USA. What I achieved here in Chile it will takes me 10 years or more in any European country to achieve what I have achieved in Chile in two years with the same knowledge and skills. |

tensazangetsu20:Anything that makes you sleep better at night bro. Chile has a stable small economy but you cant compare with giant of Europe. i get it, it is more suitable to you than anyway but common. I'm typing this while eating salmon from chile though. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 12:19am On Sep 29, 2025 |
Letsmove:What’s the giant of Europe? The one you have to pay 50 percent tax rate on puny salaries 😀😀🤪 |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 1:53pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
Over the weekend I visited one of the poorest neighborhoods in my city here in Chile, and honestly, it hit me hard. The “poorest of the poor” Chileans are still living with a quality of life that even some of the wealthiest Nigerians can’t match. Here’s what I mean: in Chile, even in the roughest areas, people have 24/7 clean running water hot and cold, straight from the tap. I’ve never once had to buy bottled water since I arrived; I drink directly from the tap without worry. There’s constant electricity. Affordable, stable internet. Every home has basics like a fridge and an oven. Now compare that to Nigeria. How many Nigerians even have refrigerators? For most families, the “standard” is leaving food in the pot and reheating it every morning until it’s finished. People switch their data on and off just to manage internet costs. And the daily routine of carrying buckets to fetch water is normal in Lagos, the supposed commercial hub! I can’t even begin to imagine what life looks like in other Nigerian cities. And the crazy part? The city I live in here isn’t even a top city in Chile it’s like the “Gombe” of Chile. Not in the top 10 for anything. Yet the living conditions here are lightyears ahead of what we have back home. Honestly, the black man has failed. |

tensazangetsu20:Broooo, this is nothing but the absolute truth! I saw that video as well. I do trading but funds ain't available that much. What template would you draw up for someonr hungry to break this jinx?? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by LincolnOnyeabor: 4:52pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
emmaodet:Broooo, this is the plain reality oooo. Flesh and Blood didn't reveal this to you oo but deep painful brutal experience oo |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Letsmove: 5:04pm On Sep 29, 2025*. Modified: 2:02am On Sep 30, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Chile at 40% or there about is not great either but the infrastructures in Europe are far better. I can put my kids in public schools in Europe without fear, in Chile the disparity between the public and private is very obvious. Let's not even talk about the currency. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 5:27pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
Letsmove:I posted pictures of a public school close to my house on this thread. What infrastructure is available in Europe that is not available in chile? What’s with the currency? And Chiles tax rate at 40 percent is a very big lie. I pay two taxes in Chile including contributions and everything comes down to around 20 percent. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Geofavor(m): 6:18pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:You're in Chile, no worry. You fit talk say Chile better pass wakanda sef ![]() |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Letsmove: 8:41pm On Sep 29, 2025*. Modified: 9:12pm On Sep 29, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Lets see if you will put your child in a public school when you have one . The highest rate of your taxes is 40% depending on your income code and they tax on your worldwide income if you are a resident. There might be some deductibles that helps you bring it low which is available in europ as well. As good as it is it's not what you are making it to be online. I'm presently in Santiago and i will be leaving for Panama in 2 days incase you want to meet.

Letsmove:For me, chile is perfect. God bless the day I escaped from Nigeria. I don’t live in Santiago. I am a penquisto 😉 |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Letsmove: 1:59am On Sep 30, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:You will always be a Nigerian even if you chose to renounce your citizenship. There is no escaping for someone like me that values his family and heritage. I can enjoy the skyscrapers, smooth roads but i will never despise the humble beginnings . Good luck to you and eat your hotdogs and wines. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by XY01: 12:48pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:No o..Nigeria is a better country, we have stable light, security, zero corruption...I just heard that some people were sent to God in kwara state without visa and guess what? The president is about to go a book launch in oweri! The country is really working, this is our humble beginning like the clown above me said. Don't forget your family and heritage too....Nigeria will always protect them |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 1:32pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
Letsmove:If you said you will always be an Igbo man I would have completely accepted but Nigeria is a British construct. I am an Igbo man and soon I will be a Chilean man. Nothing concerns me with that British creation. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Fred2020: 1:52pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:It's good you caveated it....Chile is not in the top twenty of per capita income or the human development index. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 2:28pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
Fred2020:Per capita income doesnt mean anything if the money isn’t entering your pocket. The UK’s per capita income is 60000 dollars. How many Nigerians in the uk earn up to 30000 dollars a year. My first job in chile with a chilean company was paying me more than that. I still maintain my stance though. What I have achieved in chile in two years on a student visa with the restrictions on my visa I wont achieve it in any European country in 10 years with permanent residency maybe except Switzerland cause it’s the only country in Europe with high salaries and low taxes. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Fred2020: 3:54pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:You've been blessed by God in Chile, there are many blessed by God in the UK and other European...leave the noise they make on nairaland about everybody doing minimum wage jobs, same way there are those doing minimum wage jobs in Chile. Regardless, using an objective metric of wealth per head as capital income adjusted by PPP or Human Development Index, Chile falls well behind any Western European country. Its good you are updating us on Chile. If the UK become too tiring, we will come join you in Chile. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by digitaccountant: 3:56pm On Sep 30, 2025 |
If Chile is that good, people will be trooping there for jobs, Africans, Indians and others and it will all be in the news. Stop spewing propaganda. |
