Mexyz:Even if that is the case, Dangote Refinery is a national asset we should not allow cabalistic forces to blackmail or harm. Even for reasons of self-preservation, as progressive people can alway prioritise, we should back Ndume's call here regardless of his motivation. PENGASSAN, NUPENG etal, though claiming noble Roles, are actually congregation grounds of mercenaries and enemies of Nigeria working for private profit and available for sale to the highest bidder to include political forces determined to create suffering for Nigerians to discredit the government of the day. This isn't about Ndume or his motivation. It is about the right call he makes. |

I beg to disagree. Some situations do not require drastic action. Infact no situation requires drastic action in a democracy. The president must pass through due process. You're asking the president to act like a dictator. Sorry, not in a democratic republic. |

Sen.Ndume has always been controversial..So most of his vituperations should not be taken seriously. He has a great foundation and excelled in his education career,I don’t see how he intends to guide 1st class engineers who subscribed to join PENGASSAN…the brightest of minds who contribute in no small way to the O&G Industry and are the pride of Nigeria.Save for a 22 year political career of his 66 year life, he probably would have excelled in controversy in leading ASUU,SSANU or the likes. The truth is that PENGASSAN has evolved a competitive salary and welfare structure for IOC’s over the years, every person in O&G would want to emulate their CBA as it has evolved to one of the best in class in Nigeria. The aspirations of these 800+ workers to be in PENGASSAN is constitutional and should be obeyed. Go and do your findings as to the working conditions and pay Nigerians are subjected to in the Dangote refinery and compare to their Indian colleagues;juxtapose it with Dangote’s interview 13 days ago where he praised Nigerian Engineers as being the best in class in comparison to their Indian counterparts and then comment here. Closing the gas lines ,I believe,is a direct response to dangote sacking 800 ‘best-in-class’ people and it’s like for like.He should have consulted widely before such drastic decision, and please nobody should mention ‘ Private Company’ as the IOC’s have invested way more than Dangote invested over the years and are heavily unionized!!! Dangote it is said borrowed from a consortium O banks a sum of about $10m dollars or more out of his $25bn refinery, right,On record the amount currently owed about a year after is $3.8bn, despite increase in interest rate,,what does that tell you about the business ?Please let’s consider our long term future as ‘stakeholders’ and fight ‘capitalism’ together!!! I expect bashes as reply cos that’s the bane of Social media - Sentiments instead of Objectivity. We shall Overcome and someday Nigeria flourish again!!!!! |

ogascomax:You can say more than these to prove point but Dangote is a private entity you can not tread the way you treat government entity. The owner of the company knows best what shout the standard of his or her company . It's only the government 3ntities that allow it's workers to determine and dictate how the company operates not in private sectors . No any private investor will allow unionism that will bring down the functionality of the investment. It is a shame for those poeple that failed to manage NNPC to be functional but now resulted to Sabotage the private one that was built with private funds.Worker are not bigger than the investors, if you don't invest who and where are the workers ? The Employees are not the masters to investors. The employer should determine the faiths of her employees . What was happening in government entities can never be allowed in private sectors. |

U can't ban unions they are there for a reason which is to protect workers but maybe they can be regulated in the way they act or something. |

We must be careful what we wish for. There is definitely a better way to handle the conflict than dissolution. The dissolution of a union, particularly when it violates the constitutional right to freedom of association, might provide a fleeting victory now. But when that precedent inevitably circles back, the damage will be irreversible. Let's not confuse private profit with national necessity. The attempt to label Dangote's interest as Nigeria's interest is an unacceptable conflation. This is a dispute between Dangote (who wants to have the leverage to maximise profit) and PENGASSAN, not a conflict between PENGASSAN and the Nigerian people. Today it is PENGASSAN. Tomorrow, the exact same justification you use to ban them will be levelled against the likes of the NBA, the NMA, the NUT, and every other professional body. Bet on it: a violation of principle is a threat to everyone. |

PENGASSAN is a terrorist group without base and focus .. they are terrorising Nigerians without any reason. The constitution of federal republic of Nigeria stated it clear that their must be freedom of association/union.. who are you to force someone to join your useless union of thieves... |

Skinnygee1:The fact that the business is private is legally irrelevant in true capitalism business is supposed to be private So the issues can be debated on the basis of law or whatever But this point that it is private or that he built it with his own money is 100% irrelevant It has no bearing Most of the other business in the oil industry which PENGASSAN relate to are private like MOBIL, SHELL, CHEVRON ,AGIP,and on and on They are unionised with NUPENG AND PENGASSAN They are all private so stop repeating this private business as if it is a revelation or discovery of the formula on how to turn water into wine If we want to proscribe unions let us have the debate but for now the constitution allows it Dangote is Not the first private business in Nigeria Most businesses are private PENGASSAN has been around for nearly 50 years dealing with bigger companies like MOBIL and SHELL The moment a Nigerian enters the industry he wants to intimidate everyone Do MOBIL operate with government money? |

ogascomax:How has Dangote treated Nigerian workers? Have you ever heard of widespread complaints about his employees’ welfare before now? I personally know a friend who left the oil and gas sector to join Dangote Cement, and today, he is doing very well. PENGASSAN and their allies cannot force Dangote into unionism. In fact, if I were Dangote, I would not hesitate to let go of any workers still trying to push union politics inside his private business. This is a private enterprise, not a government establishment. Even in the oil and gas sector where I work, we are not part of any union, yet we handle major projects without interference. Why then is PENGASSAN not forcing us to join them? It clearly shows that there is a hidden agenda somewhere, and the whole noise is just an attempt to frustrate Dangote and his investments. Instead of chasing private businesses, PENGASSAN should focus on fixing the refineries and establishments already under their watch, which have been left to die. Dangote’s success should be an encouragement for more private investment, not an excuse for unnecessary union battles |

adekolaelect:Is SHELL or MOBIL government Which companies does PENGASSAN relate to the most if not private? Many keep repeating private company Are CHEVRON AGIP TOTAL government PENGASSAN has been around nearly 50 years in harmony with all these bigger. Companies Suddenly a Nigerian enters the industry and wants to break them up Leave that private company story The industry is almost 100% private |
