lionshare:He holds the knife and cake then he should sleaze na since he has both. If he doesn't come to compromise he will be losing man-hours. He has been pampered for too long. PENGASSAN cannot be threatened so you guys should know that. PENGASSAN is everybody in the oil industry so it's a joke too far to say they should be disbanded as some people would say. |

Two things I have noticed. Politicians and Big businessmen in Nigeria engage in "PR" or propaganda to build narratives. Many are working for them on Nairaland and twitter and other social medica. Also, many Nigerians are used to sufferhead. Dont waste your time fighting for Nigerians or what is good or moral or right. In the end evil always wins in Nigeria. Being good is a waste of time. Dangote is looking for people he will pay peanuts, not conform to any labor law and free to fire anytime if they get out of line. He will have been a good and successful slavemaster. |

Pengasson reminds me of those mama and baba oja, they have no business in private business, unless they're fronting for some big sharks. If push comes to shove, Dangote's legal unit will come out gunz blazing. |

I would like to know if PENGASSAN is a statutory body or just an association that was formed by 3 or 4 people that got approval from CAC?. I also want to know if it is against the law for a private company to discourage unionism among its staff. But the company employees' renumeration and other benefits are in line with best practice obtainable in the sector the company is operating. |

lionshare:As per your data would be nice to quote the source cos I believe there is difficulty harmonizing the data. I agree there are deeper issues ,and in my opinion it relates to government, policies and the need to do what is right. As per unionizing, I think Dangote doesn’t want disruption to his business in any guise, there are many disruptive factors apart from Union,in my view, the Union can provide some competitive advantage .I have witnessed first hand,in upstream business was it 2015 when oil price was at about $25 ,where Pengassan in an IOC introduced a cost-saving Initiative by sharing deck spaces for different routes/ ship, this was implemented and the model still in use in that IOC.If given the opportunity, beyond, strikes, salaries and increases which I feel is what Dangote thinks unionizing of its workers will bring,PENGASSAN is indeed a force for positive change and sustainable growth. He should just look at the brighter side |

izzou:Resign from your employer that hate you and work for the union that love you. Infact, go to CAC, get certificate and employ the Union that love you. My friend, Nobody love you more or less, Union activity is not benefiting 230 million Nigerians, it's benefiting a few If I was an exco in NUPENG or NLC, I will fully support PENGASSON because their activity benefits our hustle. Nigerians need to fight for their interest |

P1PrinceKT:There is a trust gap. How has PENGASSAN helped the industry and the citizens in the last 40 years? Can PENGASSAN come out to list some ways they have helped Nigerians, apart from themselves? If they have not helped, what is the prospect of helping in the future? |

P1PrinceKT:Alol, My lil brother worked there n i know some of his colleagues ... does he flog them if they come late or what punishment does he give to them Lets look at it these way, Since Dangote refinery started .. every stakeholder in that mainstream n downstream have tried to frustrare him .. PENGASSAN may not realize that a lot of people dont trust them. They have outlived their relevance after years and decades of hobnobbing with politicians and rulers to the detriment of the industry they claim to protect. What is left of that industry today apart from the private operators like DR, SEPLAT, etc? |

ogascomax:Given your disagreement with the idea that PENGASSAN should construct its own refinery, you might consider an alternative course of action: building your own refinery and allowing all your employees to become members of PENGASSAN. What do you think? ![]() |

izzou:But does a union have the power to instruct its members not to provide a service which their employer has guaranteed to the target? Shouldn’t the target’s workers be on the strike and not other industry players? |

Anniwil:While it’s clear that you lean in favor of PENGASSAN and NUPENG, I truly appreciate the respectful tone and the thoughtfulness of your arguments. I agree that unions can indeed be valuable partners in progress—especially when their core interests are genuinely at stake. That said, I personally don’t believe Dangote is primarily concerned about salaries or worker welfare—perhaps about the potential for strikes. Even then, that alone doesn’t justify an outright rejection of unionization. It feels like there’s more to this story—something both parties are deliberately withholding from the public. Unfortunately, whatever that is seems to reflect poorly on both sides, particularly the unions. It’s also worth noting: the refinery has been operational for over a year—so why now? Why is this surfacing just as Dangote begins direct distribution using his CNG trucks, which reportedly cut transport costs by about 40% compared to existing alternatives? Did salaries and working conditions suddenly become intolerable? We need to look beyond the surface and resist the pull of emotionally charged narratives. There’s more here than meets the eye. https://punchng.com/1-4-billion-litres-of-petrol-supplied-in-june-nmdpra/ |

Almunjid:Shell, Chevron and the rest that allowed their members to join are they dead now. What is Dangote afraid of? A big refinery like that should be under supervision otherwise they will frustrate workers as they have done to many already. My small company pays more than Dangote pays most of his Nigeria staffs. |

Feelsgood:So far, both unions appear to make more noise than actual actions because they know they are in the wrong, which is why they can’t go to court, and as of today, they can’t even go on any strike again. |
