So, the SF 6x6 competition is hotting up, with the SF Brigade extensively putting the Armormax and SVI vehicles through their paces. I might be wrong, but I think they choose sometime towards the end of this year?
I went back and looked at the Request for Proposals:

- fixed cost for a Toyota Land Cruiser Single Cab converted to 6×6 with automatic transmission, fitted with front Bull Bar and rear flatbed load carrier capable of carrying 3.5 tons;
- Appropriate tie-down points must be fitted to the rear flatbed load carrier;
- differential locks on each axle; ability to switch from 6×2, 6×4 and 6×6 modes;
- ground clearance of at least 235 mm;
- non-pneumatic suspension; and standard Toyota Land Cruiser V8 diesel engine. The vehicle will need to make use of new parts and not used or remanufactured items.

A separate request for bids will be issued following testing and evaluation, for the accepted/preferred platform to be integrated with an armoured cab and user-specific rear platform.

Then, Armscor will issue a bid for the procurement of complete vehicle systems. “This phase will involve manufacture in accordance to the baseline approved for preceding phases, for the preferred platform. Including integration of the user specific rear platform variants in support of the operational system.

Operational testing and evaluation is subject to test conditions specified for Gerotek evaluation:
- This will include rollover angle evaluation, side slop verification, step climb capability, incline capability, overcoming suspension track obstacles, and sand trail testing.

- The bidder should be able to support the modified Land Cruisers for at least ten years and provide the necessary spares.

I notice the original RFP called for a user-specific rear platform, but I see both SVI and Armormax have been making their own suggestions on weapons and systems. Maybe the RFP was amended?
I just hope Armscor does not mess up this procurement like they've done with the 462 vehicles needed for the Border Patrol Armoured Personnel Carriers.

I personally feel like the SANDF should have sent a 4-door spec to Armscor... It would have doubled up as a force multiplier. As it stands, the 2 door spec can only be used to mount the ZU-23, meaning it can only be used as a defence or ambush platform, it cannot be used in an offensive way, it wouldn't even survive an ambush on it's own. So meaning, you still have to deploy it with Hornets for protection.

HUMINT makes it more disappointing they were not stopped. We must be able to dissuade large movements like this whether by aerial assets or by rapid deployment of troops to blocking positions

2x t-129 atak choppers supported with 1 a29 tucano from kanji base coordinating the strike package would have put the fear of God in those bastards but lives have been lost now for no reason. The incompetence is crazy cos we have all these platforms. Even the TB2 drone. Look how the Ukrainians put it to good use.
