My CAR AC Not Cooling by minista94(op):
Good evening Nairalanders

Please my car AC is not cooling, I met a technician and he checked the filter at the passenger side and it's still as clean as new, he got 2 refrigerants and tried refilling and as he was refilling and still checking if the AC will cool but still same(though only the first refrigerant), he open the oil side and said it's dried and put oil too and still no show, he then said the compressor is bad, that we will need to change compressor, and it's manual compressor we'll gonna use, but I'm skeptical to change the compressor because it's a toks car.

It's 2012 corolla.

Please any expert in the house to advise?

Below is the scan result I got today

definitely compressor but as a technician he should have known first hand now. If your compressor is working you will know once you on the Ac.

If i put on the AC, the engine sound changes showing load has added to the engine

If your AC compressor is working. As soon as it picks.the engine would make a diff sound.he just wan chop u. Run away from him.

Hmm.

If you let them put a manual compressor on that car, then the engine is gone. Because vibration will start from there.

Find a more competent technician.

I think there's an AC technician I do read his posts here. And the guy appears competent from his posts. I think his name is Mosbus or Mobus I can't remember.

Search for him and if possible, take the car to him.

Your AC shouldn't be having issues yet.

Ryan Automotive Limited

Nairalanders 👋

For your 2012 Toyota Corolla AC issue, here’s a professional breakdown:

1️⃣ Filter Check – Since your cabin filter is clean, that rules out airflow blockage.

2️⃣ Refrigerant (Gas) Refill – Simply topping up gas without proper pressure testing and leak detection is not enough. If the system is not cooling, it may either be leaking or not circulating properly.

3️⃣ Compressor Oil – A dried system is a red flag. Compressors need proper lubrication. Adding oil without flushing or balancing the system can sometimes cause further issues.

4️⃣ Compressor Diagnosis – Before concluding that the compressor is bad, a pressure gauge test should be carried out (both low and high side). A competent technician should check whether:
• The compressor is engaging (clutch operation).
• The compressor is building adequate pressure.
• There are no blockages in the expansion valve or condenser.

5️⃣ Recommendation – Do not rush into changing to a “manual compressor.” The Corolla comes with a specific type of compressor, and replacing it with a wrong or altered unit may cause further damage.
• First, run a leak test and pressure test.
• Confirm compressor engagement.
• Inspect condenser and expansion valve.

👉 Sometimes the issue is not the compressor but a blocked condenser, expansion valve, or a weak clutch coil.

At Ryan Automotive Limited, we specialize in computerized AC diagnostics, so we can scan, test, and confirm the exact fault before you spend unnecessarily.

You need to replace the flow sensor. It's located on top of your compressor with 3 pin wire.
