Yoruba Leaders Declare Tinubu WILL Serve Only One Term — If He Fails To Deliver by ch214(op): 12:49pm On Oct 01, 2025
Lagos, Nigeria – In an unprecedented show of discontent, major Yoruba traditional rulers, political stakeholders, business chiefs, and civil society leadership have come together to issue a bold declaration: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must prove his leadership worthiness — or risk being a one‑term president.

The coalition, speaking at a press conference in Ikeja earlier today, said the patience of the Yoruba people is running thin. From Alapins to Ogunbas, from community development associations to unions, the Yoruba leadership says Tinubu's current trajectory falls sharply short of expectations — and unless there is a radical course correction, 2027 will mark his only term.

Among the sharp criticisms leveled against the presidency:

1. Economic Hardship: Surge in cost of living, inflation, unemployment. Elders argue that income‑earners in the Southwest are overwhelmed by fuel cost, electricity instability, inflation of basic food items, and rising transport fares.

2. Infrastructure Promises Delayed: Several flagship projects pledged during Tinubu’s campaign remain stalled. Yoruba leaders say promised roads, hospitals and schools are either incomplete, underfunded, or suffering from bureaucratic delays.

3. Perceived Ethnic Polarization: Some Yoruba stakeholders feel Tinubu’s administration is being labelled a “Yoruba government” in ways that provoke division. They argue this narrative is being used by opponents to delegitimise the presidency and threaten his chances for a second term.

4. Lack of Social Safety Nets: Despite macroeconomic reforms, the coalition claims ordinary people see little benefit. The poor, especially vulnerable groups in the Southwest, are said to be suffering disproportionately from subsidy removal, inflation, and policy shifts.

The leaders said: “We, the Yoruba people, having contributed significantly to the emergence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expect him to govern inclusively and deliver tangible, immediate improvements across all sectors. Failing that, we cannot support his re‑election or allow him to hold power beyond 2027.”

They emphasized that this is not a tribal threat but a performance ultimatum. “We refuse to be spectators of broken promises,” the spokesperson declared.

A five‑point roadmap was offered: stabilization of inflation & food prices, visible progress on infrastructure, better power supply, job creation for the youth, and equitable inclusion of Yoruba states in federal appointments and contracts.

Support from Opposition Figures: Some opposition parties welcomed the declaration, saying it reflects the mood of many in the Southwest.

Defensive Posture from APC: Insiders in Tinubu’s party predict attempts to counter the narrative: through public relations, accelerated project implementation, and co‑opting Yoruba influencers.

Civil Society: Some human rights and youth groups cautiously praised the move, but called for consistency: “Declarations are fine. We want measurable actions.”

This development marks a turning point in Nigerian politics. If Yoruba leaders — historically influential and often kingmakers — refuse to back a second term, it could sharply weaken Tinubu’s re‑election bid. The Southwest’s unity or disunity could be decisive, especially in swing states.

Tinubu’s presidency will now be judged not by promises, but by progress. Yoruba stakeholders, in speaking with one voice, have made clear: 2027 is not guaranteed. It will be earned.

The Yoruba people expressed their discontent with the Tinubu administration during an interview, citing the economic hardship affecting Yorubas and the six Southwest states in Nigeria that comprise Yorubaland. They blamed Tinubu for the inability of Yorubas to feed themselves due to the country's economic hardship.

Most Yoruba Elites have already given up on Tinubu, who has no direction
The Renew Hope Agenda that Tinubu promised in 2023 is a scam
Other Yoruba groups, instead of their support for Tinubu, are like Payback similar to how the Fulani people supported Buhari, although he failed.
Yorubas wouldn't support evil for long

The problem with this position is that being said to have ‘delivered’ is subjective and, as with anything to do with the Social Sciences, is subject to interpretation depending on one’s biases or limits of understanding! We all saw how Tinubu and his acolytes, minions and paid hacks interpreted the use of IREV and BVAS in the last presidential election….electoral tools which naive and trusting Nigerians were touting as the ‘game changer’ that will herald a new dawn in Nigerian elections and the election petition process!

The way Tinubu interprets and ranks his performance thus far, he’d have you believe Nigeria is well on its way on its journey to the fabled city of El-Dorado, and almost attaining uhuru!
