Nigeria News Today: Kano Governor Condemns Police Commissioner Over Independence Day Boycott

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sharply condemned what he described as the unprofessional and partisan actions of the state’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The governor accused the CP of deliberate sabotage following the police command’s sudden withdrawal from the 2025 Independence Day celebrations in Kano.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the boycott order, delivered just hours before the commencement of the event, was a betrayal of constitutional duty and a “clear demonstration of bias and insubordination.”

Governor Yusuf’s Strong Rebuke

The governor, who presided over the celebration at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, described CP Bakori as a “political police officer” whose conduct has eroded public trust in the force. He accused the CP of aligning with political interests opposed to the will of Kano people.

“As the Chief Security Officer of Kano State, we cannot tolerate sabotage to the peace, security, and wellbeing of our citizens. It is disgraceful that a Commissioner of Police would descend so low into partisan politics by boycotting a national event that symbolizes unity, patriotism, and democracy,” Governor Yusuf declared.

Call for Federal Intervention

Governor Yusuf and Kano stakeholders present at the parade — including traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, labour unions, and NNPP lawmakers — unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in CP Bakori. They urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to immediately replace him with a competent, non-partisan officer.

Commendation for Other Agencies

While condemning the police, Governor Yusuf praised the participation of other security outfits at the Independence Day Parade, including the Nigeria Customs Service, Immigration Service, Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, and the State Directorate of Security Services. He described their collaboration as proof that security can thrive without bias.

Assurance of Security Commitment

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that no act of sabotage by compromised officials will destabilize Kano. He assured residents that his government will continue to work with neutral security agencies to maintain peace.

I dont have problem in criticizing tinubu government.

Apart from atiku no other northern politician criticize buhari government. It was only atiku. Even at the peak of endsars 1 none of them. It the reason the south is sentimental about typical northerners.

The plan upcoming endsars 2 or police brutality 2. Will bring a testaments to all of this in due time.

Lastly I think there was intelligent report of terrorest attack today. Reasons the government cancelled it. To even worsen it. There is no light anywhere.

I dont even rate kwankwaso and his groups again, all his waiting for is for the corrupt APC govt to give him a good offer and then he joins them.It means he doesn't really have the interest of the masses but for self...I give up on him.
We all wish he was a formidable opposition but we are disappointed, the talakawas whom stands by him are disappointed!
