This is not only applicable to first borns, been an only child also suffer the same fate. I hate it when they task first born children with so much responsibility, is not fare honestly, you see these children suffering, being the last hope of the family. If you make it, they come for your money, you don't make it they label you as lazy. Parents please spare your first borns and only child, they didn't beg you to bring them to the world, stop heeping tons of family responsibility on there heads, some die from depression and frustration. What do you think? |

Because there is responsibility in the family! ![]() Every Nigerian is under pressure, even the rich. |

Only those so-called firstborns who have been deprived of their individuality from an early age fall prey to such manipulations. No one is born with such responsibilities except he/she decides to take them on for himself/herself. 🥱🥱🥱 |

LoneSoldier:Why in the world should a child be considered the last hope of a family? That screams of a dysfunctional and possibly toxic family setup, if you can even call it that. ![]() |

Kobojunkie:It is a very common thing in Nigeria, responsibilities are placed in the head of the first born than the second born or last born. The first born bears all the tasks of responsibilities, it is very sickening. |

LoneSoldier:That it is common in Nigeria does not remove the dysfunctionality and toxicity of it. ![]() 2. Again, wrong! The firstborn only does that if he/she has been brainwashed — again, dysfunctionality & toxic family indicated— into believing those responsibilities are his to take on. A child should never assume the responsibilities of their parents. ![]() |

LoneSoldier:Nah, I'm the person on the receiving end of the divide, one who is privileged to help, rather than the one asking for one. All praise to God...we pray for more blessings and grace to touch lives. It's a privilege, friend, don't let it get into your head.

Kobojunkie:I never said it was good or right, infact when you read my post you will see where I said I hate it when first borns are given those responsibilities, all together will still on the same page. |

LoneSoldier:My point is that not all firstborns reason that way, even in Nigeria, as your title suggests. That mentality is instead majorly linked to firstborns raised by terrible caregivers. ![]() |
