chisomkachy:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

I laugh!! I should think you don't live in Nigeria!
I should think that our country has to remain the same as it is now, for all of us to complain forever without doing something meaningful to resolve our problems.

I understand your point now.

Someone here from the early comments wants the ADC to say " yes daddy " and " dash.". their saint the party ticket without a contest . Democrats that don't want a fair contest for everyone are still not rid theirselves of this entitlement mentality .

Ah ah, which kind of stupid talk is this? You will step aside if another younger aspirant wins, will you be dragging it if you don't win?

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he is open to stepping aside for a younger aspirant if he loses the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Can ANYONE beat Atiku in Primaries of ADC?
Anyone who thinks so is totally NAIVE!

AMINDA:
Prove it.

Atiku has lost primary elections several times in the past.

1993 Vs MKO: He stepped down and supported MKO.

2011 Vs GEJ: He came 2nd and supported Jonathan.

2015 Vs Buhari: He came 3rd and supported Buhari.
waooh, since 1993-2025, that is 32 years ago, this Atiku have been contesting for the presidency, with all the huge resources involved with the exercise.
of course no younger man in Nigeria, can challenge your deep pockets, but if ADC party delegates can not resist your famous deep pocket, most of us will have no choice than to continue managing the headaches of our own T-pain .
I suggest that T-pain or any other incoming president after 2027 elections, should consider probing all our past leaders to recover our missing huge funds in their possessions, to fast-track the national development of Nigeria, without taxing to death the barely breathing and impoverished citizens of Nigeria.

Technically Obi is younger and Obi is who the people want, ADC, LP or PDP where ever Obi goes is where we will camp.

“If I run for office, and a young man defeats me, I will accept that"

Now the BIG question:

Which young man has the dollar and manipulative capacity to defeat you?

Where is the step aside there? If u lose primary you lose, u won't be able to contest the general election like 2011 and 2015. So why make it an issue here?

Young man will not defeat you because none of them has your kind of money to corrupt the process. You still have money to waste. That's why you are still runninyg.
I thought ADC as a new political party was corrupt free, that corruption were only in APC,PDP LP and others.

Atiku has placed his cards on the table for all to see.

PO, are you capable of matching the Wizard of Adamawa, sorry, the Waziri of Adamawa dollar for dollar or pounds sterling for pounds sterling?

Because with your no giving of "shi-shi" policy, e go hard o.

Atiku depends heavily on money-power and it would be very difficult for you to defeat him in any primary election contest as it stands.

Better go back to Ellu-piss for bodi o.

Just an advice from a caring Nigerian!

Why did you follow Tinubu to make a northerner use our turn in 2015, and bring us this APC shege that was fraudulently packaged as change?
That's where you people are wrong.

The north did not steal the South's turn in 2015, it was actually the North's turn.

When Yardua died in office the proper thing would have been for GEJ not to contest a second term so as to give the north an opportunity to complete its second term per the gentlemen's rotation agreement.

Instead selfish politicians prevailed on GEJ to run and that was the reason why he lost the election is such a disgraceful manner because there was a lot of resentment against him by the northerners who vote enblock.

This time around it is the turn of the south to hold the presidency for 8 years therefore if Tinubu is to be changed his replacement must be a southerner.

Atiku is a big joker!

Step aside without contesting the primary election. Mr desperado!
step aside for who. I prefer Atiku or even Ameachi who was a far better governor to obi to be president. We don't need a tribalist and religious bigot as president. He is quick to visit Lagos and other places to talk nonsense but don't knows the road to south east. Thank God my governor Okpeboho and father governor Alla put him to where he belongs. He should be thanking God, Sanwo olu is a gentle governor. Soludo demolished buildings and even affected innoson headquarters and the company accusses the state government of no information and it became an issue between them but the foolish tribalist didn't say anything about i in his own state. Abia and Enugu did same our the fake messaih kept mute. Let igbos should know that, if he is the only person they want to be president of Nigeria then they will wait till the kingdom come.

Step down for me! Give me the ticket! Step down, step down!! Haba!!! Why are you people afraid of following democratic process? Yet, you clamour for electoral reforms where democratic process is followed to the letter!

You people should learn to lead by example if you are really serious about winning the presidential election.

Nobody will step down for anybody. Every aspirant will test his popularity at the polls and whoever wins at the primaries gets the presidential ticket.

Case closed!

Your Excellency, please if you still want regain relevance in Nigerian Polity, all you need do is to retire and champion a course no one has ever thought of from the North.

Champion the course of Igbo Presidency whether Obi or not, galvanize the whole North as much as your popularity can to champion the course of Igbo presidency. When this happens, whether you succeed or not, you would have written your name in gold.

For 2027, needless lavishing your resources because Tinubu will surely finish his 8 years in Office. Buhari did, why should he not be allowed and from the North for that matter. Rather pursue Igbo candidacy and preferably Obi to get Tinubu handover to him completing the 8 years circle of the South.

My simple advice without prejudice to you sir

Mrexcell:
There's absolutely no way any southerner can be able to defeat atiku in any primary election because of the numbers that's going to come from his northern base.
The ADC primary will be the easiest primary Atiku will contest and he is not going to even spent a dime on delegates. He has over 70% loyalist and allies already in ADC. Jonathan knows that is why he want David Mark the caretaker chairman to assured him of the ticket but he obliged. Those northerners against Tinubu don't even trust any other southern to lead except Atiku. To them, they want obi and Jonathan to contest separately or Jonathan joining pdp and obi stepping down for him, so as to divide south votes with Tinubu but they will be shocked how Tinubu will pull strings. South south will deliver for Tinubu whether Jonathan contest or not. The politicians knows the game in south south and they are waiting patiently. I advice Jonathan to go and rest cos he will disgrace himself.
