Kebbi Police Neutralize Three Suspected Lakurawa Bandits

The Bureau News reports that the Kebbi State Police Command has successfully neutralized three suspected members of the Lakurawa bandit group following a fierce exchange of gunfire in Gorun Yamma village, Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The operation, which took place on Friday, highlights renewed efforts by security agencies to curb violent crimes in northern Nigeria.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the coordinated response followed credible intelligence reports. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Kamba Division, SP Mohd Bello Lawal, immediately mobilized a joint team of policemen and local vigilantes to engage the attackers, demonstrating improved synergy between law enforcement and community security networks.

The security team engaged the heavily armed bandits in an intense gun battle that lasted several hours. At the end of the operation, three suspects were neutralized, while others escaped into the nearby forest with gunshot wounds. One unregistered red Honda motorcycle — commonly referred to as “Boko Haram” — was recovered from the scene as evidence. The success of the operation underscores ongoing collaboration between the Nigerian security forces and local communities to tackle banditry.

Commendation and Further Investigation

In a statement, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and his team for their bravery and swift response. He noted that the officers’ quick action prevented the criminals from attacking innocent villagers. The CP directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for detailed investigation and follow-up operations.

Commitment to Public Safety

CP Sani reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. He also encouraged communities to report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station or the Police Emergency Contact Channels for quick intervention.

Sustained Fight Against Banditry

The Bureau News notes that Kebbi State continues to strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies and vigilante groups in its fight against rural banditry. With Nigeria News Today monitoring developments closely, the sustained intelligence-led operations are expected to reduce attacks and improve security across the northwest region.

When Nigeria Army engaged these bandit we always hear in the news that they escaped with gun shots and fled to nearby bush. Same news is what is reported in this news. Nigeria Army should fiercely engaged and ensure that non of them escaped.

Bandits are cowards, those people negotiating with bandits are compromised, they have sentiments for the bandits, due to their religious affiliation. I pray we use our sense and understand that jihadists use religion as a ploy and front to deceive the moderates, their aim is to control humans like sheep, create a place where they can put their narcissistic evil barbaric tendencies to use. Do not be sentimental to killers and hoodlums because you share same religious ideology, it's evil.

As a Yoruba Muslim I have no idea why leadership under us is always terrible, it's the same reason why Lugard never wanted Awo in senior positions during the colonial era despite his backstabbing and mischief

Northerners have created too many problems in this country, all because they chose to do nothing but focus on religion and politics.

Boko Haram- North
ISWAP - North
Mahmuda - North
Lakurawa - North
Bandit - North
Illiteracy - North
Redundant population - North
Military rule - North

In spite of all of this, they contribute the least to Nigeria's GDP and account for majority of consumption.

All these cultists battling for supremacy should at least be useful to the society and engage these riffraffs.

You're still a menace but maybe we can hold one thing you did with your lives.

If Northern Nigeria were to be a country, it'll be one of the poorest, unstable, most disorganized country in Africa. But I think they'd be more serious about themselves.
