digitaccountant:Propaganda is a funny word. The Chilean embassy is there in Ghana. Go and get the visa and come and suffer 🤪🤪🤪. As if I am handing out visas 😀😀😀🤣 |

tensazangetsu20:Fair enough but your place of birth will always be where are born irrespective of your new passport which will take you close to 10 years even if you marry a Chilean. |

Letsmove:Even if this is true which is a lie anyway why does this hurt you so much 😂😂😀😀. I am genuinely curious. You have mentioned this on this thread like 8 times now 😀😀😀😆😆😆 |

digitaccountant:Outside the continent, South America is infamous for drug wars. Also, it is largely Spanish-speaking and a bit Portuguese (solely because of Brazil). Additionally, their universities and governments don't openly seek foreign residents to move to their countries. Brazil and Chile have world class universites, and for courses in agriculture, mining and engineering, they are very good. Even if they do, they will first attract immigrants from neighbouring countries and Central America before India and China (there is a small Chinese community there). That is the thing with migration: the major sources would be neighbouring countries, not far-flung ones. An instance is Spain, where there has been an influx of migrants, but the majority come from South America. Lastly, some cultures are not interested in mass migration; otherwise, Mozambicans and Equatorial Guineans would have flooded South America. Then again, those countries are way poorer and sparsely populated. Chile, by any global metric, surpasses all sub-Saharan African countries. That is the undeniable fact. Why this is hard to grasp is befuddling. |

Fred2020:As we have discussed privately, the lax student work hours benefited him greatly. Such would be unheard of in Europe and other popular places. Chile is very unpopular, too far from major migrants' home countries, is Spanish-speaking. Chile does not advertise itself for immigrants to move to as Australia and Singapore do. The US has slapped a $100K fee on companies that want to hire foreign staff on H1B, but the same country has stated clearly that H1B1 is unaffected. Who are the beneficiaries of H1B1? Chile and Singapore. |

tensazangetsu20:Please over the years, how are you coping with their language. Can you speak very well now? Plus you mentioned somewhere else on your trend that Chile don't have an embassy in Nigeria, is that correct? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 5:43pm On Oct 03, 2025 |
desmondDessi:My Spanish is very good. The closest Chilean embassy is in Ghana. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 11:01pm On Oct 03, 2025 |
desmondDessi:Why don't you try and get a Ghana passport. It's visa-free to Guyana, from Guyana, you can find your way to Chile, quite easypeasy. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 11:08pm On Oct 03, 2025 |
trollx:Men what kind of wicked advice is this? Illegal Venezuelans wey full Chile Dey hear am talk less of a Nigerian who doesn’t understand the culture or speak the language. The kind suffering wey go bite am eh 😀😀😂😂🤣🤣 |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 11:17pm On Oct 03, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Lol...Really? Are you being serious? So, are you trying to say tourist visa cannot be regularize to TR or PR while already in Chile? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 11:30pm On Oct 03, 2025 |
trollx:The possibility is very low. The only visa you can apply for while inside Chile is family reunification and that’s if you are married to a Chilean. If it’s not easy for other Latinos to pull off who have the same language as Chileans I don’t know how easy it will be for a Nigerian. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 12:12am On Oct 04, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Nor be small thing ooo. So, one cannot regularize tourist-visa to student-visa or work-visa while already inside Chile? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 12:17am On Oct 04, 2025 |
trollx:No you cannot. For work visa or student visa you have to leave chile and apply from outside. I remember one useless agent I met from Nairaland here when I was applying for my study visa the agent told me to apply for tourist visa and when I get to Chile I will apply for student visa. Thank God I never listened to her. I for hear am. I think she’s on the Brazilian thread. She was advertising childbirth in Brazil or so. |

trollx:In what part of the developed world is the bold possible? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by trollx: 1:26pm On Oct 04, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Oh, I see. That means Chile has the same rules as Mexico. Don't blame the agent. Perhaps, she thinks Chile has the same rules as Brazil. Because if you hadn't enlightened me now, I wouldn't have known either. |

I remember when I was doing the coding for my final year project. My supervisor stressed me so much. Do this do that try this model do this do that. At the end of it all he was like I really like this project and the results we have and I will send it for publishing. I thought he was joking. Apparently he did and this week, news arrived from the organization that the paper was accepted |

| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Gerrard59(m): 5:16pm On Oct 04, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Congratulations man! The publication aspect reminded me of the Nigerians I knew in the robotics department at my graduate school. The robotics department has a policy where prospective PhD grads have to publish three original papers in high profile journals before graduation. Two declined their PhD scholarships and went off with M.Eng. One accepted it, but two years into the PhD program, he did not have a paper ready for publication. He returned to Nigeria. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Karleb(m): 6:53am On Oct 05, 2025 |
Gerrard59:How would you want to have PhD and not publish papers? Isn't that laziness? Don't they know how important higher education is to the world? |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Lordbinsmar: 8:38am On Oct 05, 2025 |
tensazangetsu20:Share the doi of your paper wen e don get published. But no be organization dey publish paper. You publish in a journal or conference proceedings associated with a publisher. And it's not a big deal to publish paper from a good graduate programme. I could already publish in Q1 journal in thermofluids from my undergraduate thesis. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by Lordbinsmar: 8:42am On Oct 05, 2025 |
Karleb:PhD trajectory is extremely unpredictable. You can never tell if you will be able to publish x amount of papers in y amount of years. And which PhD programme kicks out a student because they cannot publish paper in 2 years? In a PhD trajectory is more about academic and research progress than outputs. |
| Re: Memoirs From Chile by tensazangetsu20(op): 9:43am On Oct 05, 2025 |
Lordbinsmar:True but like I mentioned I only used this masters as a means to escape Nigeria. I didn’t do masters with the mindset of I want to learn this or that or that. Getting a published paper out of it was surprising. It’s also weird that my new job lets me use things I learnt from my masters like python and aws. Life is funny and no knowledge regardless of how small is a waste. |
