Abuja Is Safe, Secure, Wike Assures by CapitalLens(op): 3:03am On Oct 05, 2025
….AS HE INSPECTS ONGOING KEY INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has reassured residents that Abuja is a safe and secure city, while also highlighting significant progress on key infrastructure projects in the Wuye District and Kuje Area Council.

The Minister made these statements in Abuja on Saturday, October 4, 2025, following a routine inspection of ongoing work on the Wuye District Infrastructure and the Federal Highway 105 from the Umar Musa Yar'Adua Expressway to Kuje township.

Responding to a question about security concerns in the nation’s capital, Barrister Wike, emphasized that there is improved security in the FCT compared to what obtained in the past, stressing that isolated incidents of insecurity do not define the city’s overall safety.

"If there is one safe city in this country, I think Abuja is that city," the Minister stated, noting that the "Light Up Abuja" program, which involves installing solar streetlights across districts and expressways, is also a strategic initiative to further enhance security.

He said, “The problem we have here is that when one incident happens, we forget that three months ago, nothing happened. You should give us and the security agencies credit that we are doing quite a lot to make Abuja safe, and Abuja has been safe.

“We do agree that something may happen but that does not mean that Abuja is not safe…I don’t want us to take that to mean that the city is not safe. If there is one safe city in this country, I think Abuja is that city”, Barr. Wike added.

Speaking on the projects inspected, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and progress of work, noting that Arab Contractors, the firm handling the Wuye District infrastructure, has assured that the project is nearing completion, with the road expected to be finished within 10 days.

Barr. Wike also praised the work on the Airport Road to Kuje dual carriageway, which he had visited multiple times, noting that the 8-lane road will significantly reduce travel time, allowing Kuje residents to reach the city center in just 15 to 20 minutes. He expressed confidence that the road will be inaugurated during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's third anniversary celebration.

He said, “For a regular passerby who knows this area very well, if you come here now, you will give it to them; Arab Contractor has done a good job. You can see how beautiful the landscape is. We believe that, God willing, just as they have promised, with our support, and we will continue to support. Latest, during the third anniversary of Mr. President, we believe that this road will be one of the roads that will be inaugurated to the delight of residents of Kuje and the entire people of Abuja, and of course to the happiness of all Nigerians”.

“The level of infrastructure is such that we have not seen before, and everybody will attest to the fact that if you are living in Kuje, you don’t need to go and find a house in the city to live. By the time this road is commissioned, which is not less than 8-lane dual carriageway, in about 15 or 20 minutes, you are already in the city centre and that’s what development is all about. That’s what the Renewed Hope Agenda is all about. So, we are happy”, the Minister stated.

Addressing sanitation challenges, Barr. Wike also confirmed that the FCT Administration is actively removing dumped refuse, particularly along Airport Road and in the Nyanya/Karshi area. He revealed plans to award new contracts for refuse disposal within the next two weeks, promising to select only competent contractors with the capacity to ensure that the city remains clean.

“We believe that in the next two weeks, the contract will be formally awarded for refuse disposal. That, I can tell you, will help us quite a lot”, the Minister stated.

Nice one uncle wike.

Even with the distraction from every corner,he is still doing his best.
Distractions he caused and brought upon himself like his refusal to submit to questioning over corruption allegations, the illegal acquisition of Abuja lands, his failure to explain how he acquired properties in Florida, USA and other places, and his refusal to let Rivers State breathe by instigating crises that led to the illegal declaration of a state of emergency, the removal of democratically elected institutions, and the imposition of an illegal sole administrator which have significantly derailed the state's progress, dragging it backward. These actions will continue to haunt both him and Tinubu for the rest of their lives, exposing how they thrive on impunity and illegality.

Don't mind him. Abuja isn't safe especially if you living at the outskirt of Abuja. After the death of that journalist last week, I called one of uncles to know whether they are okay. He told me that they are fine and that it is those living at the remote side of Abuja that are affected by constant attack by armed robbers.

Let's not even talk about the menace of one chance people.

When I said wike should leave road for now and focus on transportation, build bus stops and get new commercial busses people were coming for me.

Abuja one chance is the deadliest in Nigeria. The have graduated from using your greed when you hear ' I took my oga dollars, e dey booth' to trying to get money by brutal force. Abuja needs urgent transportation rehaul, ditch the small cars that's 2 in front and 4 at back and get mini bus and share. After all when it's time for election there will be money to buy small buses for campaign so why not sort this one chance issue out. A ghanians diplomat was recently killed by Abuja one chance.

I am confused with this internet generation. How can isolated events turn to a whole city being unsafe?

Thieves came to my place like 4 years ago and came 3 times later, within 2 weeks, to the same estate. Does that mean Lagos is unsafe?

Kwara is unsafe. Ehen, we agree.

I am not in Abuja but blanket statements are beer parlor gists materials. Nothing more.

Even in the US, dem go rob you for street. Nothing wey you fit do.

The person who says so is driving with a bullet proof car!
His house is heavily guarded with enough security details
Even in his inspection of projects,he is surrounded by security men😄😄
Yet he is assuring the public that abuja is secure😁😁
Well he is safe and secured, not you or the public!

Re: Abuja Is Safe, Secure, Wike Assures by laivwire(m): 5:56am On Oct 05, 2025
Abuja is safe but as an estate we have to pay npf monthly dues just so they can respond to midnight armed robbery attacks which funny enough has been on the rise this year.

Everyone is living in fear. These robbers count up to 20 and pick a compound to attack, usually successful before police shows. How can 20 -30 miscreants organise themselves in the night by 2am to move and attack an area and no security will notice anything in a safe city?

People are being attacked "in their homes" , kidnapped and killed but you say the city is safe.

You're the kind of person I listen to. You have identified a flash point and brought a solution.

If many can keep talking about this one point till it gets to Wike, he will be forced to do something about it. No be politician and eye service?

Great insight. Kudos.

How can isolated terror attacks in certain states make Nigeria as a country get on the global terror list? Ask yourself that question and reassess what you typed.
