Free Nnamdi Kanu Before It’s Too Late - Igbo Communities In Canada Warns by Metrix147(op): 7:59am On Oct 05, 2025
The Igbo communities in Canada have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the immediate and unconditional release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, over what they described as his worsening health condition and the alarming state of insecurity in the Southeast region.

In a press statement signed by the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Canada, Chief Dr. Anicetus Nwizundu (Okanga Ogadagidi) and made available to ABN TV, the group expressed deep concern over Kanu’s continued detention in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for over four years despite repeated appeals for his freedom.

“We, the Igbo people living in Canada, stand united in calling upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene compassionately in this matter and facilitate the unconditional release of our brother, Nnamdi Kanu,” the statement said.

Chief Nwizundu noted that Kanu’s health condition has deteriorated seriously, as confirmed by several medical experts, including cardiologists who have examined him during hospital visits. He warned that further detention could endanger his life.

“We implore the Federal Government to act swiftly to release him from custody before it’s too late,” the statement urged.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Canada president also highlighted that Kanu’s incarceration was a result of his persistent advocacy against the marginalization of the Igbo people in Nigeria. He stressed that the Igbo community is not seeking confrontation but fairness and justice within the Nigerian federation.

“The Igbo do not seek trouble; they yearn for recognition, equality, and peace as Nigerians. Yet, they are treated as second-class citizens in their own country,” the statement lamented.

Chief Nwizundu further expressed worry over the worsening insecurity in the Southeast, describing the situation as “terrifying and disheartening.”

“There is no safety in Igboland today. One cannot travel without fear, nor sleep peacefully at night owing to insecurity pervasive across various parts of our land,” he stated.

The group maintained that releasing Nnamdi Kanu would help restore calm and unity in the region, paving the way for sustainable peace and development.

“With his release, we envision correction of many wrongs afflicting our homeland, paving the way for total peace,” Chief Nwizundu added.

The court will decide that and not you. Why was the terrorist always clamouring for change of judge. To the niose makers in Canada, you guys are irrelevant cos igbos in general once boasted of burning down Nigeria if the terrorist was arrested. It is almost five years now and no single fight from them, abi destroying igboland was the promise.

Let's be real:

No government would touch kanu's release---Even obi would clutch his chest first... grin grin

Some fires are just too dangerous to play with". ..

Really?

If what ipob have been saying pre-Nnamdi Kanu's arrest is anything to go by, the country should have been burnt down by now.

So warning the fed govt to release Nnamdi Kanu is one of those empty threats.

These are FAKE Igbos.

No TRUE Igbos would sit COMFORTABLY in the peace and tranquility that Canada confers and ADVOCATE for the release of a terrorist.

Instead of asking for the UNCONDITIONAL release of a known terrorist. They should ask for a PROMPT and JUST conviction of the criminal.

So we should free one terrorist because it will somehow stop the ongoing carnage being committed by another set of terrorists?

I needed to paraphrase it incase you missed it.

So the life of one terrorist according to you is more important than those 5k people who have fled their homes and are displaced in Cameroon? 😳 😱

Kanu must repent and offer a formal apology for advocating the destruction of Nigeria, including calls for Lagos to be set ablaze and for attacks on security personnel.

So the ones displaying their faces on the other thread with the huge amount of cash they received from their kidnap victims are what? Graphic design? The ones your government are negotiating with all the time are what? Faceless people?

The ones that the IG said can't be arrested because they came with heavy weapons and was ready to flush out the police if they try anything funny, those ones are what? Graphic design I guess?

Nigerian government is the most unserious government in the world, otherwise, Nnamdi Kanu should be in prison by now without the hope of ever coming out. In fact, the call for release of Kanu should be a treasonable offence and those who make these calls should be arrested immediately if the country was a serious country

The day FG retained Gumi as negotiator for Boko Haram coupled with the recent press conference by Boko Haram attended by government officials made FGN not credible to try anyone for terrorism. The FG has no locus standi to keep Nnamdi Kanu incarcerated. Since they chose to be hypocrites, let everyone run this madness collectively.

The same thing is applicable to EFCC. No young man must be harassed as long as Yahaya Bello is a free man and no case has been opened with the regards to the expose' on Wike.

The worst thing about Nigerians is that they never fight back oppression. Like sheep being led to the guillotine, they obey the most strange of all laws thrown at them. One would think that EndSARS protest had opened the eyes of Nigerian masses on the enormous power they wield. But selfishness won't help them see beyond their nose.

The Igbo people are on record to have beaten a non-performing politician in far away Germany. Those who berated them then for lack of undesired respect have recently resorted to beating their Oba and his wife to stupor. They even defeacated in the Oba of Lagos' swimming pool too. So much for respect. Go figure!

Why the Tinubu led APC administration is still holding Nnamdi Kanu in detention is totally beyond me. All the things he said about Buhari, even stating the timeline of his "death" had turned out to be true.
