#1 Salary and the extensive extravagance
Of EVERY ELECTED OFFICIALS will be cut down to the barest Minimum. (reduce the Cost of governance)

Leaving only those that REALLY want to serve to come into governance and politics.

Nigeria is BROKE.
THE OFFICIALS should reflect it also. Just as all Nigerians dey feel it Right Now.

Govt/Elected positions won't be a moneymaking franchise as it has been made today.

1. Cut all politician allowances to Max of N1m.
2. Impose more taxes on people that have 3 more cars/houses to bridge income gap.
3. Give all unemployed graduates 40 yrs and below N1M capital each and train them to start a business.
4. Import machinery to tackle insecurity..because internally, we're really compromised

I will open the borders and allow food to flood the nation. This will also cut down the steep prices of food.

I will reduce the burden of numerous taxes borne by the masses.

I shall half the enormous salaries of political office holders.

i shall make all my appointments reflect the true spirit of federal character.

I shall grant licences to electricity distributors to encourage healthy competition.

I shall deploy troops to troubled hotspots of banditry to restore peace and hope while fostering partnership between the armed forces and members of the local communities nationwide to quell insurgency.

I shall recommend new Supreme Court judges who have had a history of making unbiased judgment

I shall make education cheaper at the tertiary level and free at the primary and secondary levels.

I shall see to it that a law penalizing corrupt office holders with life imprisonment is enacted

I shall also see to it that punishing false rape accusers with the same punishment as a guilty rapist becomes law

I will give women greater participation in nation building and encourage projects geared towards their empowerment.

I shall encourage small and large scale bussinesses by granting them tax reliefs to increase employment opportunities

Send all current judges on paid leave.
Disband EFCC bandit.
Recover 50% of looted funds from politicians dead or alive from 1999-present!
No single politician will be allowed to travel outside the country. Those outside MUST BE repatriated!
Send a short one paragraph memo to all ministers and government parastatals to send in a comprehensive internal audit report which must be completed in the first quarter before a government funded external audit.
Nigeria will reset in less than one year!

I will focus only on corruption of public officer holders in all three tiers of government.

Change the Constitution to ensure that corruption in all three tiers of government is a capital offense.

Plus all immunity clauses from the constitution.

And corruption cases must be concluded and enforcement carried out within 6 months and assets of the convicted are forfeited to the FG within 30 days after execution.

CommentatorPro:
Nigeria is a country blessed with talent, resources, and resilience — yet it continues to struggle under the weight of bad leadership, corruption, and poor governance. From unreliable electricity to the rising cost of living, it sometimes feels like every sector is crying out for help.

Now imagine this: you suddenly become the President of Nigeria — but only for one week. You have full control to make key decisions, sign executive orders, and implement reforms. No bureaucracy, no political godfathers — just seven days to make a difference.

What would you fix first?

Would you focus on the economy, to bring down the price of food and fuel?
Would you tackle security, ensuring that citizens can travel freely without fear of bandits or kidnappers?
Or maybe you’d go straight to education, reviving schools, paying teachers well, and making universities work again?

Some Nigerians say they would start by cutting government salaries and reducing the cost of governance. Others believe the first step should be arresting corrupt politicians and recovering looted funds. A few even argue that constitutional reform is the only real solution to Nigeria’s endless cycle of problems.

Whatever your opinion, one thing is clear — most Nigerians know exactly what they want fixed; they just haven’t had the power to do it.

So, let’s hear from you
If you had just one week as Nigeria’s President, with total authority to act, what’s the first thing you’d change and why?
Each region of the country should run themselves in whatever way they want within Nigeria. This will result in healthy competition in everything, which will in turn bring out the best in people. That competition will create giant strides in each region, and that's when the diversity will make sense

I know you said one thing but

Scrap states. Introduce 6 regions, grant full autonomy and introduce local languages as official languages in each region alongside English.
Re: If You Were Nigeria’s President For One Week, What Would You Change First? by DeepSight(m): 12:41pm On Oct 05, 2025
Why are people so misguided. One week is way too short. Most of what you do will be swiftly undone thereafter or simply not proceed into reality. Therefore you should only use the time to swiftly do things that cannot be undone.

I will not wish to utter the words. But we all know the one thing that is permanent and irreversible and it should certainly visit certain principalities and powers in this country.

Arrest Mahmoud Yakubu , IGP , Chief judge of the federation and NURTW in Lagos.
Then allow the people of Nigeria to select the INEC Chairman and who will be the chief judge of the federation. Then change will start.

One week. I mean just only one week, and I have to do something. Hmmmm...

Here are Nigerian diseases:
1. Corruption
2. Over population loading
3. Religious intolerance
4. Tribal intolerance
5. And other issues.

The top on the list is corruption; hence, that is what I would fo us on, but one week is too short. So, I would think of something that I can do which can have a positive impact on reducing corruption.

Ok. I know what I would do. I would pass the law to take INEC chairman nomination from the president and make the electoral system seamless and transparent such that politicians cannot rig elections again. Period.

You guys can start figuring out what this would do to Nigeria.

Cheers! wink
Hahahaha

Even as a dictator, you can achieve that in a week
