World Teachers’ Day: Celebrating the Builders of a Brighter Future — Akeem Akintayo Amosun

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

As the world marks Teachers’ Day, tributes continue to pour in for educators whose tireless dedication shapes the minds and destinies of countless young learners.

Teachers play a vital role in nurturing future leaders, professionals, and innovators — guiding students with wisdom, patience, and passion. They are the silent architects behind the success of presidents, engineers, doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, and artists who make remarkable contributions to society.

Reflecting on this year’s celebration, Hon. Akeem Akintayo Amosun, Commissioner for Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, (RMAFC), expressed pride in his profession, describing teaching as “a calling that transforms lives.”

“Teachers inspire, educate, and mentor students, helping them develop the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to succeed,” he said. “I’m proud to be a special teacher making a difference.”

His message serves as a heartfelt reminder to appreciate the hard work and resilience of teachers everywhere — those who, against all odds, continue to build the foundation for a brighter and more inclusive future.

The greatest lesson people need is to learn is to never make a heroin trafficker President. It’s not good for the future of any country.

Firstly, increased teachers salary to up to 200k per month. Now there is shortage of teachers in Nigeria now because of low pay

Teachers deserve better pay.

Honestly, if Teachers are paid well, many workers will leave their terrible jobs to enter teaching 😹

How much are Teachers being paid today?

I am a Geography Teacher with a Bachelors Degree in Geography and Planning. I am also a Geography WAEC Examiner (I mark Geography WAEC Exams).

This first term that started last month, I decided to go back to my passion which is teaching after a very long haitus, I sent my CV to a School Owner who was recruiting for a Geography Teacher.

Look at what the man was asking me to do.

He wants me to teach Geography along with 2 core science subjects which are Biology and Chemistry.

And he refused to state the pay.

Making it 3 Core Science Subjects. Yet hiding the pay.

No shame.

Any school that will use you, na from chat u go first know.

Some School Owners are Sadists in human form.

How do u want such Teachers to give their best in such over worked conditions?

Some School Owners will use you and use you till ur eyes fall out.

Teachers shine your eyes.

This is the problem with the Nigerian Educational system today.

I wish the government can close down some private schools.

I just remembered those professors that have always been used in rigging elections in this country and how much they have contributed in totally blurring the future of this country

Please we should stop this complain of saying professors are used to rig elections. It’s not the average professor that is used to rig elections but the politically aligned professors. If a law is made to allow ASSUU to nominate professors for elections then we can blame them for helping politicians to rig.
