Fix roads.
Fix electricity.
Seaports where necessary.

Then watch the country automatically develop itself.

First thing I will do will be to arrest all past military heads of state dead and living. I will try them all for treason, and if found guilty, make sure they serve the punishment.
CommentatorPro:
Nigeria is a country blessed with talent, resources, and resilience — yet it continues to struggle under the weight of bad leadership, corruption, and poor governance. From unreliable electricity to the rising cost of living, it sometimes feels like every sector is crying out for help.

Now imagine this: you suddenly become the President of Nigeria — but only for one week. You have full control to make key decisions, sign executive orders, and implement reforms. No bureaucracy, no political godfathers — just seven days to make a difference.

What would you fix first?

Would you focus on the economy, to bring down the price of food and fuel?
Would you tackle security, ensuring that citizens can travel freely without fear of bandits or kidnappers?
Or maybe you’d go straight to education, reviving schools, paying teachers well, and making universities work again?

Some Nigerians say they would start by cutting government salaries and reducing the cost of governance. Others believe the first step should be arresting corrupt politicians and recovering looted funds. A few even argue that constitutional reform is the only real solution to Nigeria’s endless cycle of problems.

Whatever your opinion, one thing is clear — most Nigerians know exactly what they want fixed; they just haven’t had the power to do it.

So, let’s hear from you
If you had just one week as Nigeria’s President, with total authority to act, what’s the first thing you’d change and why?

As President for one week, my list of immediate actions will be:
Dismantling all federal ministries with the exception of five and consolidating the others under six new ministries for SE, SS, SW, NE, NW & NC. That is in addition to:
Ministry of Health {to handle all national health data, reports, emergencies etc}
Ministry For Power & Energy {to handle national grid and manage energy plans}
Ministry of Works {to manage all federal government infrastructure and provide policy directions}
Ministry of Education {to provide national statistics and design plan for nationwide education policies}
Ministry of Defence.
SE Ministry {to oversee the affairs of regional states and report same to the Federation. All states must show workings before disbursements of federal allocations. The Regional Ministries will be the ones that will collate information of all regional resources, educational, health and employment deficiencies and create a pathway that states will find easy to follow.
SS Ministry
SW Ministry
NE Ministry
NW Ministry
NC Ministry

Total: 11 Ministries

2. Amend the 1978 Land Use Act through an executive order and grant all land owners nationwide, direct and permanent ownership, EXCEPT lands that are currently under Federal Govt jurisdiction such as shoreline, water ways etc. None freehold land ownership is one of the ways that state governors are currently destroying the democratic structure of the country. By reposing land ownership in their control, they tend to abuse their office and even though this law was a Military era law, the politicians have never thought to amend it because it serves their purpose.

3. Promulgate a decree that private primary and school owners nationwide should with immediate effect be exempted from tax payments and other government fees. Instead, immediate funding with be made available to them with only 5% interest on loans through a special agency powered through a transparent system. Terms and conditions apply.

4. Promulgate another decree that hospitals within certain local government areas are tax exempted and funding made available. This is to drive development to such areas. If there are economic activities in the hinterlands, especially where we today, have serious insecurity, the people will be far more willing to fight for their land and be their own gate keepers.

5. Continue ALL of CBN (under Mr. Emefiele's) agricultural policies, primarily the Anchor Borrower Program (ABP), which supported farmers by providing funding, training and all kinds of support for farmers. Without food security, no country can survive.

One day, one palaver…I rest 😁!

Price of goods and services is not that expensive in Nigeria, the issue is that majority of us are very poor.
A two bedroom flat apartment still goes around 350k annually in some part of Lagos State yet many of us will still go to mountain for prayer to be able to afford that.

In some countries they pay me monthly and they still pay with ease.

A good education will create wealth.
You are right

Abolish monthly wage, and implement per hour pay rate uniformly be it barbershop or bank.. Same flat rate. It'll be interesting to find out that the common citizen could achieve his dreams anytime anywhere in the country.

Free and quality education is the only thing our country needs at the moment.

We need to start exporting brilliant minds just like the India and Chinese are doing. We need to occupy more important positions across the globe.

Quality education is the bedrock of every nation that dreams of greatness.

Just focus on Vocational education study and improve the electricity

In this century, all these University, colleges, polytechnic are pure waste of time because after you finished there is no job.

With vocational education, as you are studying, you are already making money without being a liability to anyone.

The celebrities, you have no idea how much they are paying their make up artist, personal assistant, managers which are jobs you don't learn in tertiary, they are vocational study learning. If there are more people into it, it will create more job opportunities
focus on vocation in one week how?
Improve electricity in one week how?

Quality education will create employment. Idleness and hopelessness is the reason for the insecurity we are facing in Nigeria. Years ago, you will travel from Lagos to Maiduguri with your two eyes closed. You will travel anywhere within Nigeria freely.

Fix education and say bye bye to Banditry, Kidnapping, Ritual killings , Fulani herdsmen crisis and many more.
Fix education in one week how?

That move alone will free up a lot of funds to do other things.
Then after one week they increase it back

I will invite the US to annex Nigeria as part of its territory, just as Puerto Rico is US Territory

That will automatically makes all Nigerian Citizens US Citizens..

The US will sort out the rest

One bullet to kill a billion birds grin

Our useless politicians will rest, and the citizens will also rest...Let the US have all the nation's natural resources that the politicians have cornered to themselves since independence, while we all become US Citizens.....A very fair trade if you ask me, in contrast to our politicians cornering everything even for their unborn generations undecided
Puerto Rico isn't doing well o
But good try

One week. I mean just only one week, and I have to do something. Hmmmm...

Here are Nigerian diseases:
1. Corruption
2. Over population loading
3. Religious intolerance
4. Tribal intolerance
5. And other issues.

The top on the list is corruption; hence, that is what I would do, but one week is too short. So, I would think of something that I could do which could have a positive impact on reducing corruption.

Ok. I know what I would do. I would pass the law to take INEC chairman nomination from the president and make the electoral system seamless and transparent such that politicians cannot rig elections again. Period.

You guys can start figuring out what this would do to Nigeria.

Cheers! wink
So who will now choose inec chairman

1. Balkanise the country on day one. Everyone who wants to go will be helped to leave immediately.

2. From there, the remaining partners will be organised into true federal entities in every way and tasked with self-governance while the centre will be tasked with the critical functions of overarching economic policy, external security, oversight of internal security in a state-policing model, elections, and critical infrastructure like ports and interstate highways.

3. As one brilliant fellow said up there, legalize marijuana!

Of course, the governor will not change. What will change is local pressure. The removal of the national cake and the concentration of power in the hands of the governor will force his own people to demand results. Abuja, as the seat of power, is an abstract concept to most, but when the person responsible for our suffering is a son of the soil, the reaction is bound to be more urgent and more deliberate.
