I want to confirm this information, google seems to agree, but so far from my search, I haven’t seen any credible news outlet to verify the 10,000 plus kilometers of road from Cairo to Cape Town South 2 Likes

The Cape Town - Cairo road is not a new road under construction. It is just joining old roads together to form a long stretch. The Lagos-Calabar Expressway though is being built from scratch 8 Likes |

I doubt 10 thousand km of road can cost 1.6 billion dollars.....Well a simple road can cost that low but for a multi lane road like shown above it will cost more maybe like 5 times this price , but it shows us how over inflated the Lagos road might just be 2 Likes |

FarahAideed:That price is outrageous, as is the price of the Second Niger Bridge and almost every highway buikt in Nigeria! The price of all the rail lines the Chinese did in Nigeria are costlier when compared to the ones they did in their country or in Kenya, Tanzania and Ethiopia. Even when the distance is shorter in Nigeria.. I mentioned here sometimes in the past that the total cost outlay for the Second Niger Bridge was closely chasing that of the Worlds longest Bridge built by the Chinese in their homeland, and someone was here lambasting me.. What I have noticed is that the corrupt people that rule Nigeria, also pay a lot of hungry people to defend them online.. 6 Likes |

owobokiri:I am one of the heaviest critics of the the govt, I don't even like them but I did the maths , Umahi says it a six lane road built but the cost , the average six lane highway cost 5 million dollars per KMS but being by the coat comes with some complex engineering obstacles so let's say 10 million dollars per KMS and then factor in compensations for right of way another 3 million per KMS v..that's 13 million dollars per KMS , that will 9.1 billion dollars and then add corruption of 3 billion dollars that will come 12 billion dollars ...well it might be overinflated with about 3 billion dollars 1 Like |

The new talking point is "built from scratch". Is it twelve times more expensive to build a new road from scratch? Everyone knows the coastal road is massively inflated and the real cost is still shrouded in secrecy. They lied that it will be financed by Chagoury through PPP but the government is now funding it even though it was never budgeted for nor properly appropriated. 1 Like |

No doubt the cost of the coastal highway project will be inflated, that's a sure bet. But you can't compare the cost to that of the Cape Town - Cairo road. So many parts of the roads were not built from scratch, they were mainly interjoined and you need to factor in the diminishing worthless value of the naira. And seriously basing your figures on a Facebook post is absurd I must say. Till date, there are no confirmed figures for the total cost of those roads. 2 Likes |

The level of corruption in Nigeria is troubling. No one believes the Calabar highway should cost that much. However, I wish someone here who is a quantity surveyor or engineer can provide an indication of the cost. |

Egypt completed only over 1000km for that road last year... I suppose it cost that sum... But even at that.. the road quality isn't same... 1 Like

There are so many ways you could have verified what he was saying was true, the easiest being common sense, as how can any one wake up and imagine that a 10,000 km road can be built from scratch for $1.6bn.....
