Nigerian Man Heartbroken After Friend Uses Business Funds To Relocate To US by alphonsoolajide(op): 7:17am On Oct 06, 2025
A Nigerian man has shared his devastating experience after a trusted friend allegedly diverted money meant for their joint business venture to fund his relocation to the United States.

The man, who posted his story on X (formerly Twitter) under the username @silverpenydr, revealed that he handed his friend money for a partnership investment, only to later discover that the funds had been misused. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

He wrote:

I trusted a friend with a business deal, not knowing he was secretly gathering money to travel to the US. He took the funds meant for our venture and left. I ended up needing antidepressants. I haven’t heard from him to this day.

Struggling with Betrayal and Loss

According to him, the betrayal left not only a financial scar but also a heavy emotional toll. The situation pushed him into depression, forcing him to seek medical help with antidepressants.
Nigerians React Online

His story quickly went viral, with many Nigerians commenting that they had faced similar betrayals in friendships and business relationships. Others advised him to move forward and treat the incident as a hard but valuable lesson about trust and accountability in partnerships.

The post has since sparked wider conversations about the risks of investing with friends, especially in an economy where many are desperate for opportunities to relocate abroad.

Best ways to Japa to USA

1. Graduate from their colleges with high grade qualifications that would attract companies that will sponsor your hb1a visa(modified...preferably in STEM courses...so don't go reading things like history, Literature or fine arts, please!..unless you are the next Chiamanda Adiche, and have a novel written up by your 19th birthday!)

2. Be in medicine and pass the certification exams (USMLE for docs , NCLEX for nurses)

3. Write GRE and get into a masters program and do so brilliantly there that they will retain you for work.(again preferrably in STEM)

Though Trump is making immigration harder ( except for medical people)

Story story, if the friend is nice, he can pay back in no time. This japa feels like the only hope of the common man in Nigeria these days. Even in the banking sector, top bosses are relocating abroad, hmmmm, its not funny oooh

You will think you japa to secure the future for your unborn generation.. you never know it's the new birth for generational curse..

This is the reason, why unexplainable things are happening to many in life.. paying for the sins of your fore fathers and this is a typical good example..most especially Africans, who are birth with greediness to aquire wealth they will end up leaving behind...

So many people are walking around carrying generational curse... Even if u like be so religiously committed...

Whatever decision you are making today .. think about those coming behind you, after you have long gone...

It took my relative in the USA over ten years of work before she could earn a salary that could be considered decent enough.

And that one legally entered us. Not like this one that probably is there illegally. Even if legal, it would take him a long long time to be ina position to repay. USA life is very expensive. Even for their citizens

Lucky he didn't use your money to play sporty. Forgive him and move on. He has good intentions but selfish. But I trust he'll pay back.
after several years of emotional toll he put on him. huh
He did it intentionally so that when he now makes it over there he will now return the money by saying his conscience is hurting him. He knew the game to play beforehand. That is wickedness and betrayal. It’s not good intentions

This thing is not new I have seen this happened several times with the absconder taken it as a game

An act of betrayal by a friend hurts so bad and its the reason most people have trust issues but the friend should be aware that karma still exists.
