Chronicling the hatred

1) People were praying that rain should fall so that the race would not take place.

2) People were making extremely negative (and extremely ignorant) comments about the colour of the water (they've probably never heard of silting). A marine expert even tried (voluntarily) to explain it to them (he tweeted about the brackish nature of the creek), but it was a waste of time because the colour experts were not really concerned about the colour and quality of the water.

3) People complained that there were no black people in the race (someone asked one of the complainers why he didn't take part in the race and whether he was not a black person).

4) Some people were saying that people would be seriously injured and there would be no place to treat them.

5) Someone said that Lagos State had nothing to do with the race and that it was just the governing body and Didier Drogba.

The hate and jealousy was incredible (and pointless), but it was extremely entertaining.

At the end of the day it was a successful and historic event. People had fun and spent their money in Lagos. That's all that matters.

Some people are just here to blame government for what they don't know! Alhamdulillah, they've been schooled!

In the last 2 weeks, Lagos state has hosted at least 3 major events which attracted foreigners and investors to the state

To my Northern people, when would any of your state host such international event? If some politicians are adamant in using insecurity just to play a cheap political scores, why should the youths from the region who are being used can't also have a rethink and consider the consequences of their actions to the people, to the region?

My concern is simple, fix the traffic crisis in Lagos. Build more link bridges, solve the flooding problem, and pay attention to the terrible state of our roads. The situation on the Ajah–Lekki axis is unbearable.

Before anyone comes at me, I’m Yoruba, born and raised in Lagos. I’m speaking from lived experience. This governor focuses too much on show-off projects while neglecting basic infrastructure. My car rims got damaged recently because I hit a deep gallop around 10pm while driving at a normal speed. It didn’t just affect the rims, but other parts of the car too. So yes, it concerns me to speak out.

The Ajah pedestrian bridge has become unsafe, overrun by armed robbers, so much that people hardly use it anymore. At Ojodu Berger, traffic has worsened because many avoid the pedestrian bridge as well. The lane demarcations at Berger are all damaged, creating heavy traffic on the road. Let’s not forget, it was the former governor who built that Begger bridge and road, but now everything has deteriorated without any proper maintenance or replacement.

This government is not doing enough. That’s why, for the first time in nearly 20 years, a Lagos governor is struggling for a second term.

Maybe he knows that 20 million Lagosians are just happy to have their tax burden increased for IGR growth without receiving any basic benefit in improving government services and utilities.

Abi, how can one explain that the state budgets N3.4 trillion, unlike its N42 billion budget of a quarter century ago, but has failed to employ well paid engineers, technicians, lawyers, accountants, administrators, billing clerks etc to make ordinary water available to all households?

The Permanent Secretary, Office of Drainage Services and Water Resources in Lagos State, Mahmood Adegbite, has said that people drilling borehole in the Lekki axis of the state is probably drinking ‘’shit water.”

The victims are put in camps and sold in open markets in Libya, while the international community watches in silence. Lagos due to its population and fast development needs to be more organised and well structured.

The money, people, investment and great potential are there but poorly organised. This why Fashola understood the problem and tackled it without bias but since then I don't really know. Sanwolu has tried but there's so much to be done and not well organised like fashola.

You can now see why the FG deliberately made the Atlantic Ocean not to pass through Alaigbo. It was done to prevent us from hosting this type of events

Most intracity roads in Lagos are deathtraps and need urgent attention.

Ambode did a great job and would have transformed Lagos' infrastructure but they turned against him simply because Igbos hailed Ambode for performing.
