Prominent leaders from Benue State have told President Muhammadu Buhari that there is no land to allow for the establishment of cattle colonies as being proposed by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh.

They made their position known to the president on Monday after they held a closed door meeting with him in the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who led the delegation and addressed the press after the meeting, said Mr. Ogbeh, “who is a son of the soil has explained that cattle colonies are a combination of several ranches” and is proposing that ten thousand hectares should be provided for that purpose.

“In Benue, we don’t have ten hectares for colonies, other states may have, but we don’t have in Benue State,” he said.

Among those in the delegation are former senate president, David Mark; former governor, George Akume and several others.

Cattle rearing is a personal business

The Fulani herdsmen should buy land of their choice for their business just like every other Nigerian...

The way the federal government is going about this cattle thing is not encouraging at all
No state should donate their land for such frivolities

Rubbish

Fulani herdsmen are committing so much atrocities unhindered because they think they own this geographical space, what will now happen if colonies are legally allocated to them in every state .

when did cattle rearing become the business of govt and how much do they even contribute to the nations revenue purse

A colony is established by the victorious forces after a land has been conquered.
The FG does not care about businesses which pay tax but are planning to subsidize cattle rearing.

I still see no reason why this matter will still deliberated on.
This is a full time business for christ sake, the federal government will not provide land and shops free of charge for our brothers in the east, it will not provide farms and equipment for our brothers who's major source of livelihood is farming, yet they want to provide land free of charge for a business that yields billions of naira.
I still don't understand...

If you want land, buy it and ranch your cattle please.

Cattle rearing is a business to those who choose it like the rearing of other livestocks. Fulanis should go and get ranch to rear their cattles. Nigeria is not among the country that produces cattle most in the world, I don't why this is happening.

Good! Even the colonies is a bad idea. What happens when a herd of cattle move from colony A to colony B for instance?
Ranching would spin news businesses such as supplying grass and feed to cows. And cows would be trucked from ranches to abattoirs.
