Why didn't the state government just seal the buildings and ask all owners to go and get approvals from the state before opening the buildings?

so the best solution is to start destroying people's sweat? look at what you people are trying to defend, is the government designed to guide the people or to fight them?

Doesn't this look like vendetta?

I mean they said the people did not get approvals, why not seal the buildings and tell the people to get approvals, you people just like defending evil...
The hate and envy in them is just too much to allow them do the proper thing or act in a civilise manner.
Re: Trade Fair Demolitions: Senator Umeh Condemns LASG Action, Labels It Illegal by ezekins: 6:11am On Oct 07, 2025
Was demolition the solution? What lagos state government did is a clear definition of hatred against Igbos and exhibition of tribalism in the highest order. Their actions are not only against Igbos but also against God Almighty.

Most yorubas are not civilized when it comes to tribal reasoning. They did this because tinubu is the president of Nigeria. But God Almighty will always in one way or the other punish the wicked according to their deeds. Anybody who knows God should condemn evil without considering tribalism.

Abdul05:
Senator Umeh should know that federal jurisdiction only appears to active federal facilities...like military bases or federal government offices..

Not on private traders running shops on formal federal sites..

See..lagos is not fighting anyone..it is simply enforcing order...if you benefit from lagos, you must also respect its rule..

No no no the intention is to cunningly steal other people's sweat, the last time I checked,it is still one Nigeria, according to you people!so how dear you tell a Nigerian where to live or not.Or are we suspending the constitution?
Is this not the definition of a people being insecured and rather trying to destroy others, dont think Nigerians are dumb, everyone is watching the dance of shame and it will certainly come with a repercussion. We all know what the aim and target is all about,we are keeping records and yet nobody was giving free land in Lagos, while they were using their money for owambe, others saved through manifold struggle and relentless efforts but they want it back through the back door.Things dont work this way,it will certainly attract grave consequences.
Is this not a big shame and dent to a people!

It is not Victor Umeh's fault...it is the governor of Lagos State's fault...these Ibo people know he is a gentleman...and has been doing the bidding of Ibo people in Lagos...the entire Ibo leadership came to Lagos to fault the administration of Lagos State...honestly, this gives clear credence that there is a capacity gap in the government of Lagos State...

Just imagine.....

😂😂😂cry me a river…..your tears no fit full basket. You clowns remember one Nigeria when it’s concerns Lagos after making your caveland uninhabitable for living with your self inflicted woes……when you force other Nigerians living in alaibo to sit at home every Monday, was the Nigeria constitution not also suspended then that grant every Nigerian the freedom to live and move freely anywhere? But when it concerns Lagos you clowns suddenly remember one Nigeria and the constitution😂😂😂btw is Lagos no more a no man’s land again? More building’s will still be demolished and there is nothing you noise makers can do about it than to come on SM to cry, if he pain you too much, you take your investment back home, you won’t be missed😂😂😂

So because some people beat up the agents there then the best solution is demolition? what happened to arrest and prosecution?
When your property in any state or FCT contravenes the law, it risks demolition.

Don't blame Lagos State government or any government for implementing the law by demolishing unapproved buildings.

No one is arguing on whether they have the rights of approval here, the issue is the demolition, is the government designed to guide or fight the people?

Doesn't this look like revenge?

A building is not something people build in a day, it is not a car people park and you can just tow away and return, so destroying it was the best solution?

A whole state government that should be encouraging decorum and good behavior is behaving like agbero.

so you are are telling me that destroying people's sweat is the best solution a whole state government could offer when they could use police to seal off the place and ask everyone to go get their approvals from them?
'
You are the one seeing revenge. It is no revenge. The law is blind to your emotions.

The law is very clear on buildings that are not approved - demolition is covered by the law.

If the developers are not convinced or they are so offended, they can go to court.

No, sealing the building was not an option. The court ordered demolition.

The buildings destroyed in Anambra and Abia were for road construction, that's a different issue, is Lagos building any road in trade fair?
To destroy those buildings in Anambra and Abia, was court order not secured by the state government?

Once the court orders the demolition, then it becomes legitimate. That was also the case in Lagos state. You are simply trying to rationalize the law which is clear and unsentimental.

Don't see this senator as a common sense.

Who gave you land can take it back anytime for get you buy it or not if you use the land for good and if you don't we collect it back

The headers in the community gave state government and state governments gave federal government

The situation isn't different. When a state feels certain properties contravenes the law or wishes to destroy property in the interest of public facilities, amenities or infrastructure.

The state must get a court order, by justifying the demolition to the court, to do so. Once the court order to demolish the structures are issued, the demolition becomes legal.

Ask Lagos State government to show you proof.

Better still challenge the demolition of those properties in court, this will compel Lagos state government to show you the proof in court.

The government gave them time to apply, some complied, others refused.

Heck they even beat up staff of the state government who went to dialogue with them last year.

What else should government do? Keep allowing illegality?
Seal the buildings while they enforce the law. Government is meant to secure lives and property, not destroy.
So the best resort for a policeman on an errant person is to shoot him dead instead of arrest and prosecution?

Abia and Anambra demolished to build roads, is Lagos state building any road there?

This is not the first time the Lagos State Government is engaging in illegality and behaving like lawless rascals.

Those affected should heavily sue the state government. According to the Land Use Act, the state government has no jurisdiction over lands allocated by the federal government.
Smh.
They will lose! SC has ruled on it since the time Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was AG in the administration of Asiwaju.

All building approvals not related to military and national security must be obtained from state governments, including that of your own state since every dick, tom and harry is now putting mouth in a Lagos State matter they clearly don't understand.

Mynd44:
Senator Umeh is right but also very wrong.

When it comes to federal government estates, and land sold by the FG the FG takes jurisdiction but only on land being developed by the FG.
Example: if the FG is building an army building inside a barracks, it is entirely on the exclusive list and the state has no say but the moment the FG sells the land to a non government party, such person(s) must get approvals from the state to build even after getting FG approvals.

This was the hubris of the builders who assumed that they had no business with the state even when the state asked that they come and apply for permits and get approval
Trade Fair was not sold by the FG to anybody. It was leased for 99 years and would revert back to FG at the expiration of the lease
