Hmmmm, the tendency to commit crime may be in the DNA.Most of the time it is pushed by unhealthy competition.

To imagine that that there are top notch and super brilliant Nigerian academicians scattered all over the world who should be appointed to such cerebral required position as minister of science and tech is really annoying, the the DSS bungled the clearance and CLEARED him is even more annoying, going forward the responsibility to do a background check should be split for future appointees, For academic background check should be the sole responsibility of the appointee schools, they have the proper records, then for criminal records should be the responsibility of the Police

Is that how we move the country forward bro, by promoting that they are no consequences for committing an offense? In the same way, today's yahoo boys/fraudsters can open a legitimate business tomorrow and you'll say that the law should leave them alone because the fraud happened in the past.
There are consequences for every action, the more we push and enforce this doctrine, the better for us and the country as a whole.
If you have your proof he committed an offence you can charge him to court! You don't need to come online and trouble us!

He should thereafter be sued for certificate forgery, misrepresentation, and compelled to refund, with damages, all monies he received by virtue of his illegal and unlawful period in ministerial office.

I am Yoruba, and I have already begun to see ethnically biased comments.

Let me tell you, ethnic bigots , this is not about the Igbos Hausas or others. This is an act that collectively threatens our progress as a nation.

With the magnitude of audacity displayed by this man, it simply shows one thing: there are many more like him in the system , not only in the political environment but also in public and private institutions.

These are systemic, yet critical and dangerous foundational problems drawing our dear country backward.

You can imagine someone with a poor educational background and zero understanding of advanced strategic governance managing such a complex official position. What will he and can he deliver ?

Government leadership is not something that just anyone without advanced education can handle.

I realized this recently when I took personal time to study several governance reports and guidelines of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission within Nigeria’s electricity industry . a niche under Energy Law.

I read the BEDC PIP and was amazed by how the Disco ingeniously created a solution to tackle poor energy consumption and low returns when comparing the cost of metering which clearly was hitting the BEDCs ATC&C losses really before 2019.

How can a person with low educational background read to understand those stuff? Let alone being able to identify models that can adopt to solve problems in his jurisdiction.

The civil organization should further get an order of the court to investigate all public officials in Nigeria to confirm their competence and educational qualifications and integrity.

We don’t need mediocres taking charge of our schools, clinics , public and private institutions- they are part of the major cankerworms destroying our nation.
Very correct, but if Freedom of Information Act is working, the Civil Society Organizations do not need Court Order to do that.
Such cases as this litter our leadership and governance space.

If you to become a politician, what is so hard in running back to school to get a legit certificate even you.are 65 years? There are so many easy courses and even online these days na. Why do people prefer forgery?
Exactly what I am saying. Once he has O level certificate; it is very easily to bachelor degree from any university within or outside the country. Even National open university of Nigeria is also there to help him achieve getting university degree.

He even contested for gubernatorial election as APGA candidate and lost in last election. He also won senatorial election in 1999 and relinquished to Jim Nwobodo. With all these political wins and outings won't him think that one day people will open Pandora box.

He is one to wound in himself not his political enemies.

Recently people do not provide elaborate and too many certificates/degrees for 2 reasons - forgery or backyard warded and difference in names in certificates (for example Uche is not same with Uchechukwu)

Every contemporary politicians in nigeria should learn a lesson from Bayelsa State deputy gov elect under APC in 2019 where court stop swearing in of gov and deputy due different names in different certificates deputy gov provided to inec,

I totally disagree with your post. This has nothing to do with Peter obi, it has everything to do with neglect and systemic corruption. Before the 2023 elections, we been having high government officials caught in this forgery scandal, from kemi adeosun to nanji as we speak. It has always been like that. Even the president is not left out. In 2003 or so, Tinubu submitted an affidavit to INEC claiming he finished from the University of Toronto. And the late Gani took him to court, Gani won and they told Tinubu to present his original certificate. But he couldn't, and that time Osibanjo was the AG of Lagos state. He was the one that saved Tinubu stating that Tinubu had Diplomatic immunity hence he can't be tried in office and that was how the matter died down. It's well ooo. INEC should have it's own unit to verify every document given to it as an institution. In the words of OBAMA in 2009: "Africa needs strong institutions not strong leaders"

stuffs2002:
Stop allowing yourself to be controlled by your emotions and hate for certain institutions. INEC and the Law makers relied on the information supplied by the security organisations to clear him. You lots hate INEC, the judiciary and the Law makers just because Peter Obi lost the elections. Now you try to blame everything on those institutions every time

If petty criminals like him are not prosecuted then why should you expect insecurity that has worsened in the last decade of APC, to be properly addressed huh

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

On a more serious note:

The Nigerian secret service actually doesn’t exist. Any event of worthy intelligence needs is safer to pass through the police force than the DSS or SSS. They are one of the most ineffective agencies of Nigeria and can only be good enough for tracking down disagreeing voices.
If you read the reports on the matter, dss knew about the man's issues with his degree. But unfortunately their employer, ie the government, in the name of 'securing igbo support ' refused to hear any negative information.

And the dss bosses who want to keep their jobs will suppress any negative information. Keep in mind that dss bosses are political appointments

There should be a commission solely dedicated to this in order to sanitize the public service, military and private system.

Thanks for this insight.

This is a clear example of system failure, Where you all expecting a DSS or SSS that cannot track Boko Haram or Bandits to verify common certificate? That institution is one of the most useless institution in Nigeria.

On countless times they keep vetting criminals into government. Everybody already knows the Senate is useless and clueless but the DSS and SSS being compromised and useless is a terrible thing for a country like Nigeria. How do you think we can overcome insecurity with institutions like this?

It's no joke that the President should watch his back and not to trust any signal from that incompetent and useless DSS or SSS.

That is the level of South Nigeria has gone. Imagine, INEC, DSS/SSS vetting and we have criminal successfully passing through the periscope.
Nnaji is just a top of the iceberg. So many criminals with fraudulent records in political space and public service are culpable. Go to ministries, department and agencies of government you will shit. That is why when such people find themselves in position of leadership or authority, they will never give room for bright candidate that came on merit to be employed, selected or voted for.
The early years of post independence, you have bright minds in civil service like the likes of Nnamdi Azikiwes, Anthony Enahoros, Obafemi Awolowos, etc. can we say of present crop of civil servants and politicians?

You don't need a degree certificate to become a tech businessman. Some of the most successful tech guys like Bill Gates,Zuckerberg etc didn't graduate from university. Where the minister got it wrong was resorting to forgery instead of stating SSCE as his highest academic qualification
ARISHEM:
How he used forged certificates to became a tech visionary and successful businessman in the digital world still baffles me. Not until a nod was given for his appointment as minister in the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology that investigation on his purported qualifications started. If he had not been ambitious he will not be scrutinized and will be seen as legit.
And those with accredited degrees, professional academic qualifications and advanced credible certifications were working under him and are all saying Yes Sir to him.

Since the government won’t prosecute him he still stands a good chance to become Governor like Ademola Adeleke of Osun state

1985 till now, with all the resources at your disposal, Oga u did not seem it necessary to fix your credentials. Two case scenario, either he had enemies over the years and did not bother or this is a case of "village people".

Know thyself. I had a similar issue but this time it was my FSLC, Ministry of Education kept mine for the past 20 years. It was not out of negligence, the school I wrote under at that time wasn't registered, so we were merged with other school. No one was aware. Just imagine if I were to be in a tight corner, all that was necessary was for an enemy of mine to do was just to erase my name from the master list. No evidence cos as at the time of collection, the school itself became non existent or had cease to operate. We all just have to be careful out there, the enemy is closer than you think.
