Award-winning Afrobeats superstar Tiwa Savage has made a surprising confession about one of her most iconic collaborations — the Mavin Records hit “Dorobucci.”

Speaking in a recent interview with NotJustOk, the singer revealed that she initially thought the song was “crap” when she first heard it, never imagining it would go on to become one of the biggest anthems in Afrobeats history. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The Dubai Moment That Changed Everything

Tiwa recounted that Don Jazzy, the Mavin Records boss and producer, played the track repeatedly while they were in Dubai for her wedding. At the time, she tried to hide her true feelings, unaware of how the record would eventually shape her career.

According to her, Don Jazzy had been obsessed with the beat long before recording began. “He played it over and over again throughout our hotel stay,” she said. After her wedding, Don Jazzy convinced her to return to Nigeria to record her verse — even though she thought she was heading for her honeymoon.

When she later heard the final version, Tiwa said she was stunned by how drastically the song had evolved, calling the result “flabbergasting.”

From Doubt to a Classic Collaboration

Tiwa also admitted she was the last artist to record her verse because she wasn’t convinced about the song’s potential. She compared the experience to her earlier doubts about “Eminado,” another chart-topping hit she didn’t initially believe in.

Despite her skepticism, Dorobucci became an instant sensation, dominating charts across Africa and beyond while cementing Mavin Records’ legacy as a powerhouse in the Afrobeats movement.

Tiwa praised Don Jazzy’s creative genius, acknowledging his unmatched ear for hits. She said the experience taught her the importance of trusting creative processes and respecting artistic instincts — even when they seem unconventional.

Reflecting on her journey, Tiwa concluded with a heartfelt shout-out to Don Jazzy, describing Dorobucci as a “phenomenal record” that redefined her understanding of collaboration, trust, and teamwork in music.

If a child is given birth to without knowledge of Jesus/Mohammed, he'll never know them but he'll find spirituality and RELIGION is a knock off of spirituality created to control your thinking. CAPITALISM is man's attempt to control nature out of greed. Processed foods causes cancer, it's literally on the containers of some of them and it's just another bid for man to control nature and economics because nature wants foods to be cheap so it gives it 2-3 week shelf life but PROCESSED FOODS can stay years increasing it's cost. SOCIAL MEDIA controls human thinking, causes anxiety. All four are interconnected.

SPIRITUALITY is based on logic and it comes from within. I don't want to kill because I wouldn't like to be killed is logical, that's spirituality. If everybody thinks in that way about killing, it becomes our consciousness and we can tie it to a physical entity and so we create a deity for recognition, it's the idea that's worshipped not the deity. It's logically that everybody should have land because you too wouldn't want anybody to take land from you which is socialism.
SOCIALISM is the opposite of greed/capitalism. Socialism is to share because it is more than enough to go round for everybody. In socialism, everybody would have a land to grow natural food.
NATURAL FOOD is wellness and it fosters social life because you'd probably have to go to the market every week.
SOCIAL LIFE is how genuine thoughts are formed. It's how we can create true role models. It's not pretend.

I swear that song was absolutely crap. Our music only started making sense recently. Nigerians love crap music and don't even care about your lyrics that's what brought about the fall of rap song in Nigeria. No difference between doro and that useless song called "God win". Our Artistes have improvised and now they sing really good music not just music to sooth our shallow minded audience 😆. In the real sense, Tiwa will never since such crap if not for how the general audience reason. Nigerians try have sense haba. Doro 😆 doro mumu
