But remember that the 36 states were created by northern military dictators who proliferared mostly non viable states in the old Northern region but left fewer number of states and local government areas in the two old southern regions.
There should have been more states and local government areas in the two southern regions than in the old Northern region.
Land mass is never a yardstick to create new federating units (states, local government areas and regions) in a country formed by different regions.
