Dear Nairalanders,

We are ramping things up. Here are some things we have done recently:

1. We gave Nairaland's theme a little facelift, fixing buttons, pagination, separators, and other little things.

2. We implemented a dark mode for Nairaland with the most intuitive UX: a sun toggle on your upper right.

3. We further relaxed the minimum character rule because many people were still struggling with it.

We are also trying to make our moderation bot (aka antispam bot) more accurate. Bear with us on that.

What else do you want us to work on?

Best Regards.

I don't know if it was the bot or mods that banned/suspended me just know, I couldn't post replies nor create topics some minutes ago until now, I only help straighten someone's head.
What heck is happening.
Just simple head straightening ooo

Nairaland is not just Seun's Forum anymore at this point, it's a Nigerian's Forum, our public opinions board, only surviving one at that.
What would be his gain by sending people away instead of attracting them.

Your bot bans meaninglessly most times

Just mentioning some words leads to automatic ban

Like, using a word even in a positive context leads to ban

For example , the DJ k.I.L.LEd it , it was on Fir3

When are u working on dislike button?

We need more functions instead of morphological beauty features.

We need dislike buttons and we need gallery part on our profile where we can save important memories without having to create a thread for it so we can even select it when changing dp
We don't need dislike buttons.

Seun the share button is not suppose to be working for members only but also for guest readers. For guest readers the share button suppose to work outside nairaland that is sharing of post to Whatsapp,Facebook and others. Since they are guest and don't have followers they should be able to share post to their other social media accounts, by doing this you will be able to bring in new members.

I think u should give a compensation no matter how small for viral topics and posts that achieve certain quality standards. This will improve the quality of posts and attract interesting writers and minds.

Please a Note of warning this content cannot be viral junk like on tiktok that adds no value to society. This is respectable a forum.

The Auto section Needs a Revamp also. undecided

The dark mode design is horrible, you should pay experienced UX Designer to run it for you instead of using Frontend Interns. The whole UI is below par, it can be better.

Dear Nairalanders
How does the following impact us?

BREAKING: The new Cybercrimes Act 2025 has officially been passed into law by the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

This means every provision in the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act is now fully binding and enforceable across Nigeria.

If you’re an online user, content creator, or admin of any digital platform (WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, etc.), you must know what this law says — because ignorance will not be an excuse.

Key Offenses Under the Cybercrimes Act

1️⃣ Unauthorized Access (Section 3)
Accessing someone else’s phone, laptop, or account without permission.
➡️ Punishable by up to 5 years in prison

2️⃣ Tampering with Data (Section 4)
Deleting, modifying, or interfering with another person’s digital data.
➡️ Punishable by up to 5 years in prison

3️⃣ Disclosure of Critical Information (Section 5)
Sharing classified or sensitive data without proper authority.
➡️ Punishable by up to 15 years in prison

4️⃣ Recording Private Conversations (Section 10)
Recording private discussions without authorization, even if you are part of the conversation.
➡️ Punishable by up to 2 years in prison

5️⃣ Publishing Fake News (Section 19)
Spreading false, misleading, or deceptive information online.
➡️ Punishable by up to 2 years in prison

6️⃣ Online Harassment & Abuse (Section 22)
Posting offensive, vulgar, or indecent content to insult or humiliate others.
➡️ Punishable by up to 2 years in prison

7️⃣ Inciting Ethnic/Religious Hatred (Section 24)
Making statements that provoke ethnic, tribal, or religious violence.
➡️ Punishable by LIFE imprisonment

Important for Group & Page Admins

If you manage a WhatsApp Group, Facebook Page, Telegram Channel, or any online community, you can be held responsible for what members post.

If you knowingly allow illegal content or fail to moderate, the law holds you accountable.

Stay Safe, Stay Protected

Always verify before you share.

Moderate your groups and enforce rules.

Here are my suggestions
1. Use machine learning to for sentiment analysis to analyse comments, instead of the bots banning unnecessary based on keywords.
2. Have a score card for every users based on the number of users comment likes and shares for that particular users comments to give credibility to each users who commented reasonably over time. This could help users with good scores to avoid the mandated 40 character comments.
3. Their should be a dislike button for a users comment, this is like a vote down which will affect users scores over time. Although this could be abused by users who dislike someone who shares views that doesn't sit well with them.
4. Add a button for bookmarking posts I may want to view later maybe follow post is enough for that.
5. Let users have the options of viewing post from catégories they like or commented most.
Or notification of hot topics from that categories is good

Remove the bot. Let us be free to yab and fire ourselves hot hot 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Many people like me came here because of the hot hot firing that used to take place between commenters. NOW IT'S VERY VERY DRY

I was working on nairaland chat way back in 2017 but my lappy crashed at the time. Hope you'll create a chat for nairaland one day.

Again, can we also earn on nairaland same way can earn on other platforms.

Thank you for giving us Nairaland. We really appreciate your kindness. Nairaland has put food on the table of many members here sincerely speaking.

Please work on the anti-spam bot, it is banning me even when I just share a Nairaland thread link.

Seun,

I get banned for listing some image hosting sites?

Did you censors sites like

Img puppy .com

Host Pic .com

8 Upload .com

Sirv .com

EPVP img .com

Zippy Image .com

I separate the letters to avoid ban. Please check and unban these image hosting sites. Your members will get banned every now and then because they are not aware you've censored them.
