Haha, it's no surprise! My wife has never cleaned the washroom once since we got married.

muyico:
MARRIAGE IN SOUTH SUDAN: After the wedding, Even though the groom’s family pays a dowry, sometimes 100 to 500 cows, the new wife is treated with huge respect. For example, When a man marries, his wife does NOT cook or clean for 4 whole years. This time is called "Anyuuc" (Generous Welcome).

The new bride simply rests, relaxes, & learns about her new family’s way of life. During these 4 years, the husband’s sister does all the hard work. She cooks, washes dishes, gets water, collects wood, & all other chores until the time is up. If she doesn't have a sister, he just employ someone to do it or he himself does the work, while the wife relaxes..

After 4 years, the husband throws a huge party called "Thaat" (Cooking Festival). They kill 3 cows & 5 goats! This party is the official start of the wife cooking for her family.

This custom has a very important rule: If the husband treats his wife badly during the 4 years, she can simply decide to leave the marriage. She does not have to pay back the cows (dowry) or any other thing that was gifted to her during that period..

Must the couple dye their hair as part of their culture?
Re: Marriage In South Sudan by franvincoop: 9:24pm On Oct 08, 2025
Yes, that man you see there can have over a hundred cows and a thousand sheep to his name.
Take just the Fulani cattle rearers or Tupuri people in Northern Nigeria, once his wife gives birth, they show his mother a few cows let's say 3 cows and 5 rams for him.
B4 that child becomes 30 years of age, how many rams and cows from the original 3 cows and 5 rams will he have?
Lets not include his father or sibling dying and their own animals pass over to him.
What do you think?

If you and I are asked to bring just 10 cows as dowry or bride price, we will first go withdraw from ATM before we go and buy the cows, but there are other people whom by their culture and way of life, before you say Peter Obi they have already transferred the 10 cows.
Their culture is imbedded in cows, goats and agriculture as their own New York Federal Reserve, they are saving in animals while you and I are saving cash in Ecobank.
This is why there is no Southern tribe who can boast of cows or animal rearing except pigs.
This is why Northerners are feeding Nigeria as more farming is done up North despite its Sahel nature and poor soil fertility than down South which has natural fertile soils and favorable climate for agriculture.
That is why Northerners are the highest hoarders of food to create artifical scarcity.
Spices, Corn, Beans, Tomatoes, Onions, Groundnuts, Cassava, rice etc.
Remember Anchor Borrowers Program under Meffy, na Northerners benefit pass and even bought APC ticket for Meffy as thank you meanwhile rice fit grow for South pass North using zero fertiliser.

It all boils down to culture.

No loose guard yourself, that young man on that photo fit get the number of cows and goats wey pass the number of people in your extended family plus inlaws join.
Beware, AIDS no dey show for face.

FaAbData:
He'll also exchange those cows when his sons wants to marry and the circle goes on.. having cows doesn't make you rich (in a situation where everybody has cows too) because it would seems the average man would have 200 cows . Imagine everybody in the country having 200 cows, that would be inflation.

I don't believe the story though it's either an exaggeration, a half-baked truth or only practiced by a very few group or class of people over there and the OP is making it look like it's general practice. Does that man in the pics looks like someone that has a cow to his name?

Don't bring this to my country, Naija women will marry, after 3year and 10 months they will accuse the man of mistreatment and leave the marriage for another cycle of enjoyment.

Lolzz @ 'peter Obi'

You don't get my points entirely,
1. Having plenty cows doesn't make you rich, else how comes with all their cows the northerners are still the most malnourished? How come they're still the poorest?
2. Using a few cows to pay brideprice is one thing, using 100-500 cows for bride price is another thing- no large group of people can practice such a culture, it's just an exaggeration of the culture or numbers of cows. Do you know what a hundred cows means? Even as wealthy in cows as the north is they can't be using 100-500 for brideprice

That not what I'm saying poo.

My point is, in an environment where brideprice is 100-500 cows means every other person around you also have plenty of cows as well- this is called inflation.

You can't be rich with having cows in an environment where everybody also have plenty of cows

You will still be rich because one cow can cost up to one thousand dollars and it can be exported. Many countries export cows.
Having more cows per capita is just like having more oil per Capita. They are both things needed by the rest of the world.
If there is over supply the price can drop just like for any other product
Inflation is to do with government printing money which causes prices to rise. Inflation is over supply of money itself not of product

1. Richhuh? How do you define rich?
Your definition of rich will grossly differ with the definition of rich of Peter Obi, Dangote, Bezos, Musk and obviously the young man in the photo.
Trying to define rich is like trying to define happiness which is subjective.
Northerners being the most malnourished and poorest is a fact, no one can deny that but its also an undeniable fact that Northerners occupy the biggest landmass in Nigeria with the poorest soil and harshest climate, have the highest population and birthrate compared to the South, so everything does not revolve around cows but cows Norrherners have in millions.
Yes, millions of cows.
All the cow meat and kpomo eaten everyday in this country comes from the North and nowhere else.

2. 100-500 cows is a very beautiful lie.
The highest number of cows, I have witnessed being used as brideprice/dowry is 12 cows.
But @ the bolded "Do you know what a hundred cows mean?" got my attention.
I can tell you with my full chest that 100 hundred cows is nothing, you might find it hard to believe because you were not born into a culture of savings in animals.
100 hundred cows is nothing, Lagos state alone slaughters between 3000-10000 cows per day, only Lagos state, not the whole Nigeria.
What is 100 cows again?
I can swear that there are more rams and goats in the North than the entire human population of Nigeria.
NB: I am not a Northerner.

Nice day.

1. Now you're adding other factors as to why the north with all their cows are mostly poor. Now you understanding just having cows (as a group of people) doesn't, in it self alone make you rich. This is what I have been trying to point out

2. I'm happy you understand 100-500 is a beautiful lie. It's in realtive to that I said, do you know what 100-500 cows means...in a way it might not mean much, but. Using it to pay brideprice up-and-down, it's a big deal

Not all of them are in the cattle business of course and even the ones that have cattle can't have all that much.
