The wife of the late Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, who died from severe burn injuries following a domestic dispute, has spoken out for the first time.

An audio message circulating on social media captures Mrs. Haruna sharing her side of the story, claiming the tragic event was an accident. Eyes Of Lagos reports,
Tragic Death of Lt. Samson Haruna

Lt. Samson Haruna, a medical doctor serving as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, reportedly died from burn injuries sustained during a domestic altercation on September 22, 2025.

The incident occurred at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to reports, an argument between the couple escalated, and Mrs. Haruna allegedly poured petrol on her husband before setting him on fire.

He was first treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he later passed away despite doctors’ efforts.

Following the incident, Mrs. Haruna was arrested as investigations into the case began.

In the audio clip now trending online, Mrs. Haruna maintained that the fire outbreak was unintentional.

She alleged that her husband accidentally kicked over a gallon of petrol, which spilled around their living area. She also claimed that he had threatened to set her on fire if her parents failed to come and take her away.

Mrs. Haruna further accused the late officer of previous physical abuse, stating that she had suffered a miscarriage due to beatings in the past.

According to her, while in the hospital, Lt. Haruna reportedly asked to see her and confessed that the fire was accidental. She claimed he had even pleaded with authorities to drop the case against her.
Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the current status of the investigation. However, the case has sparked intense public debate about domestic violence, marital conflict, and mental health awareness within military families.

We can never tell who or what brought the intent to "cause an accident that day". But we can agree that petrol is something we all know doesn't stay inside the house where it can be spilled and a match/spark is coincidentally set off that kills one person and unharms the other.

You only pray the good Lord spares your life even with any mental training you may have received. This poor soul was a medical doctor working in the army for goodness sake. He got trained in every regards even in lengthy stay of an average medical school.

Nigerians are very good at concluding have you listened to the voice notes even when the husband admitted it was is fault before he passed on....for your information she has been set free because the husband before he died made it clear she has no case to answer.

Must the lady stay in that marriage? That lady must go to jail if not , men should come out and protest his death. If a man kills a partner, the man is the beast and if the woman kills her male partner, the man is the beast. Those male beast who had killed their spouses in the past, do you think the wives were no beast in their live and they took so drastic decision?

I spot same mix up in her narration. She escaped but he got burnt. Her side of the narration of the officer threatening to burn her could implicate her. A man in that statea asked that the case should be dropped sounds one kind. Marriage is not a do or die, if your mental health no carry am, don't enter

Why do I think she's lying against the dead

What if her dead husband could just come back to life to give us own side of the story and die back again

What if she was cheating on him and needed to get raid of him fast

All the people commenting above, why is no one asking if the so called audio is even authentic?

So because a gossip blog posted it on NL, it became authentic.

Someone even suggested she was already freed from detention.

Why not video from her if truly she's free? Anyone can do an audio and pass it off as hers. Her family could even be behind such audio to launder her evil image.
