The University of Lagos and University of Ibadan are joint first! And Covenant University comes third.

This one that both UI and Unilag are running to media houses to both claim individual first doesn't make sense. But I blame the media houses the more.

Both UI and Unilag have done well and deserve their accolades for coming joint first and recognising that the first position is joint doesn't take away from the achievement.

Media houses should do better.

THE and QS rankings are highly subjective and can be gamed. Yes, all those universities and good and reputable, but the rankings system has a lot of failings.

It is an open secret that on the international scale, these rankings are usually in favour of English-speaking universities as against non-English speaking ones.

How was THE or QS able to effectively quantify the worth and position of a university, say in Vietnam as against the one in Australia? Do they know the mind-blowing findings and research undertaking in some of these "nameless universities"? Wha they lack is "noise-making" and "visibility".

In another instance if the same metrics is used to rank a purely traditional university vs an open university there will be huge bias in favour of the former. So the question remains, how were non-traditional universities (Military, Open, Online etc) ranked, or don't they matter in the whole ranking system?

For prospective students, take these rankings as references. It does not fully define the worth of any institution and make your own independent choice abeg.

Many of us went to both "nameless" and "reputable" institutions, yet we know what's up.
