The White House has accused the Nobel Prize committee of choosing politics over peace.

It said this while protesting the decision to grant the peace prize to Venezuelan activist, María Machado.

Announcing the award in Oslo on Friday, the Norwegian Nobel Committee commended Machado for her “tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

The committee described her as “one of the most extraordinary examples of civilian courage in Latin America,” crediting her leadership with uniting a once-fractured political opposition.

US President Donald Trump had publicly sought the Nobel Peace Prize, touting his role in brokering international ceasefire deals.

Reacting to Trump’s loss in a post on X, White House spokesman, Steven Cheung, said, “President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will.

“The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace.”

The Nobel prize winner was announced after Trump brokered a ceasefire and hostage deal to end Israel’s war on Gaza.

Trump, who claimed to have ended eight wars since returning to office for a second term on on January 20, 2025, had earlier said it would be a “big insult” to the United States if he didn’t get the Nobel Peace Prize.

Infact, even Trump had twitted earlier that the war had nothing to do with America and that they weren’t going to be involved.

2, Isreal - Hamas: The USA had every power to end the war from the set go, but they failed to do. Infact, the US is as complicit as Isreal in every way. The US was actively involved by its support for Isreal in the provision of resources — both military and intelligence- and unwavering diplomatic cover all through the crisis.

3, Congo - Rewanda: Fighting is still actively ongoing. In fact I read today in the news as the president of Congo is demanding an end to the war from Rewanda

4, Thailand -Cambodia war: I give him credit for that

5, Isreal- Iran war: He was as involved in this war as Isreal. He gave Isreal the go ahead to attack Iran. You can’t get credit for ending a war you fought in.

6, Arzerbajan - Armenia War: He deserves credit for bringing the leaders together to negotiate a peace deal.

7, Egypt-Ethiopia— there was no talk of war during the saga. Trump is deranged

8, Serbia — Kosovo: there was absolutely no war

In opinion, neither Donald Trump nor the recent Nobel Peace Prize laureate were deserving of the award. Personally, I think the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize is best upheld when it honors individuals or groups who have demonstrated profound and verifiable contributions to peace.

For instance, there are many deserving candidates such as:

1. Human rights activist like Maria Ressa, who continues to risk her life to uphold a free press.

2. Humanitarian Organizations such as the World Central Kitchen, led by Jose Andres, whom deliver meals in natural disasters and in conflict zones.

3. Diplomat like Nadia Murad who tirelessly campaigned for victims of genocide and sexual violence.

I think honoring such individuals will core values the Nobel Peace Prize aims to promote.
