2026 WCQ: ‘Nwabali not different from Onana’ – Nigerians react to Super Eagles’ win over LesothoPu

Some Nigerian football fans have reacted to the Super Eagles’ 2-1 win against Lesotho in their 2026 World Cup qualifier on Friday.

DAILY POST reports that goals from William Troost-Ekong and Akor Adams gave Nigeria the victory against Lesotho.

Nigeria will now face the Benin Republic next Tuesday in Uyo in their final Group World Cup qualifier.

Following the match, supporters took to their X accounts to share their thoughts on the game.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from X:

@middlechighld: “Nwabali is no different from Onana. His goalkeeping decisions are almost comical.”

@RockyPosh: “Not an impressive performance though.”

@jaustinuche: “Nwabali needs to be benched. His performance was absolutely horrendous.”

@Fazlurfarah: “Well, after all the wobbling and fumbling of this team and the stupidity of @thenff, this is still a good result. I believe Nigeria will still qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”

@muawiya_sarina: “Nwabali should not start in our next game, please.”

@Joj0xn: “No be small miscommunication una do for that last minute.”

@mimshach_md: “If someone doesn’t give Nwabali a spank on the head in that dressing room, I’ll be upset.”

@bodybyamadi1: “Nigeria’s probably gonna miss their second straight World Cup tournament, and I’m fine with that. This team isn’t ready for the big stage — just focus on AFCON and international matches. I’ll still support them, but still.”

@Lilwizprince: “Congratulations on winning the battle, but the war ain’t gonna come this easy! Make una do better.”

Onana is doing well in his new club. Nwabali needs to step up his game, he's making too many costly errors
Re: Nwabali Not Different From Onana – Nigerians React To Super Eagles’ Keeper by GanagiBitrus:
Nwabali made schoolboy errors & was not at his best.
But most of our players have also not been at their best. Just that goalkeeper errors are usually more pronounced than that of other players.

But the big decision for the coach is if he should risk another goalkeeper against Benin.

It's not just Nwabali,we are lacking in all departments. Even Osimhen in our colour is average at best.

Too much play

A top keeper should not be too casual

Maybe we need another strong keeper to bench him some times

Re: Nwabali Not Different From Onana – Nigerians React To Super Eagles’ Keeper by AmGreat1234: 9:24am On Oct 11, 2025
Nwabali should not be featured in our national games anymore. Pride has taken over his career and that would ruin our team if action is not taken.

We are still on a big advantage. A key South African defender on Red card.
What we need to do is Win Benin by a goal or 2.

That match was a disaster. That goalkeeper was paid to cost the eagles the match. He plays in the South African league after all. I have never seen such incompetence from a goal keeper before.

The eagles will not qualify for the world cup and I am fine with that. The team is mediocre and has no future. There is no way the eagles can beat Benin.

You guys are missing a very important observation. Una sure say the Nwabali no put something for the match? Cause his mistakes were too comical. It's almost like he knew what he was doing conjuring up those silly mistakes. Na dem Sabi sha. I don't expect them to qualify. I just dey pity Osimehn.

All this negativity on all issues.

You're a specialist in failure as Mourinho once described Wenger.

They observed that most of his throws were to opponents and that error that almost cost us 3 points and no serious attempt to salvage it by running back to ensure the ball doesn't go in...as in it was just somehow
Re: Nwabali Not Different From Onana – Nigerians React To Super Eagles’ Keeper by SlavaUkraini: 9:33am On Oct 11, 2025
Even if they beat Benin, they are likely not going to the World Cup

South Africa is still sitting second and if they win their next match and Nigeria defeats Benin....

South Africa tops the group

The entire performance of the team got my blood boiling

And I kept asking myself WHY SHOULD WE EVEN DESIRE TO QUALIFY?

is it this kind of performance we want to carry to the world stage against stronger countries?
