Please between a toyota highlander 012 and 2013 camry which would you advice a 1st time car owner to buy...

Note that my area (the road) is very rough/bad thats why I am considering the highlander....

But I believe it may be expensive to maintain...e.g fuelling...
The Highlander is the easy pick. You must however be ready to spend more on fuel and other maintenance if a 4 cylinder Camry was your choice initially.
Re: Maintenance Tips On Cars. by haykay2005:
Pls,

I recently bought a 2006 Honda Civic, and one of the first things I noticed is that the fan is connected directly. My scan result also shows two codes — P2413 and P2185. I usually scan my car and tell my mechanic what to fix based on the codes generated, and that approach has been working for me.

Now, he agrees with me on the first code, which relates to the EGR, but he doesn’t want to return the fan to its factory setting. I’d rather have that done elsewhere.

I need a good mechanic around the Ogba/Abule Egba axis who can sort this out for me. I don’t want to argue with this Azeem. I understand gassuz doesn’t like working on this car.

The fuel consumption is high. I used 17 litres of fuel from challenge ibadan to abule Egba, and my calculation is around 17mpg. Around 75 miles journey 90% highway.

U get mid sha, kudos,wellB4 returning that car to factory state of fan, plzzzz buy a new thermostat in hand so the one inside must be replaced and also buy a new water temp sensor as well, replace both then return the fan to factory state. Mechanics will say they need to tropicalize car cos USA cold, bro I went to Texas for work, the heat there be like Maiduguri in January minus harmattan.

You see that vibration, it's likely the torque converter.

That model of Camry has a factory defect that's called torque converter shudder.

And the only way to solve it is to change your torque converter. Or just continue to manage it like that. Or sell it and buy the V6 as the V6 doesn't have that defect.

Na why I no buy the car be that. I really loved the shape of the car, but I researched extensively. And saw it had that factory problem and ran away from the car. Now I'm enjoying my 2013 Corolla.

As for the other codes, you may need to clear the codes, drive around and scan again.

You can also use carb cleaner to clean your throttle body.

When my former car, a 2007 corolla was throwing up that same throttle code, cleaning the throttle body solved it. So it may work for you.

The other code there is for catalyst. And absence of catalyst shouldn't really make your car stall.
Bross I disagree with you on wobble bit
if the converter was a problem it will vibrate at all speed even revers would vibrate low or high. The vibration of a car at certain speed is called a death wobble you can google this .If I am right the OP will notice it stabilize once the speed exceed mayB 60.

You can also Google the torque converter shudder I talked about.

It's a very popular and unique problem with the 2012 to 2014 Toyota Camry, 2013 to 2015 RAV4.

It happens when the car is cruising at around 40mph to 45mph and goes away once the car gets past this speed or if the driver brakes.

It's also specific to the four cylinder versions of the car. The V6 doesn't have the problem.

Don't take my words for it. Google it.

Toyota even had to offer extended warranty because of it.

For users that their cars were still under warranty, Toyota replaced their torque converters and updated the firmware of their ecu to solve the problem.

The problem starts when the car is getting to 80k miles and above.

Hello my engineers.

I have been hearing torque converter here and there. My question is. When it’s bad, is it repairable or changeable?

If so, how expensive can it be and does the gear box needs to be removed too?

Thank you

Yes the gear box will have to be separated from the engine. In most cases they usually brings out the gear if there are no enough space around your engine bay.

You should check jiji for your car model to have an idea how much it will cost, and you should also prepare to buy transmission fluid to gauge.

That gear is gone.

Don't bother repairing it. Or you go just waste money.

Save money and buy a tokunbo gear. And make sure you give it to professional mechanic to fix.

Start with the easy fix first.

Replace oil and filter.

Are you in lagos?

I might recommend someone to you if so.

If the jerk is not during a transmission change, you should probably run a fuel pressure test since you don't have any code on the car.

You need a workshop to test drive for you. It may not be easy to pinpoint this one remotely.

that’s a solid observation and the detail about “no fault code” really helps narrow it down.

🔧 1️⃣ What That Symptom Usually Means:
When your Lexus RX350 (2010) jerks or hesitates at around 1500 RPM during steady cruise — even though gear shifts are smooth and no transmission codes appear — it often points to:
• Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Shudder or Slip — common when the converter clutch tries to engage lightly at cruising speed.
• Ignition Misfire Under Load — weak coil pack or plug not misfiring enough to trigger a code, but enough to cause a brief jerk.
• Engine Mount Movement — deteriorated mount can amplify small drivetrain shifts and feel like a “jerk.”
• Throttle Body or EGR Flow Irregularities — carbon buildup around throttle plate or slight vacuum leak can disturb cruise stability.

🧰 2️⃣ Quick Diagnostic Steps:
• Perform a live data scan while cruising — check torque converter clutch slip RPM, fuel trims, and ignition timing.
• Inspect all coil packs and spark plugs (especially cylinders 2 & 4 — common on this model).
• Clean throttle body and inspect engine mounts.
• If issue persists, do a transmission adaptive reset and check for updated TCM software (reflash) — Lexus released updates for this symptom.

✅ Professional Summary:
Your transmission is likely fine; this feels more like a torque converter or partial misfire issue occurring under light load. With proper live scan analysis, the root cause can be pinpointed quickly and corrected before it worsens.

But still a professional Diagnosis and inspection need to be carried out first
