Brendaniel:
So how did OBJ improve the economy from the terrible state he met it in 1999 despite paying subsidy and defending the naira?
At that time, the situation had not escalated to its current state. Consider the factors that have changed in the past decades: Nigeria's population has grown substantially, fuel consumption has increased, and governance costs have risen. Furthermore, corruption has worsened, exacerbating the challenges the country faces.

In the 1990s, these issues were already accumulating, similar to the progression of a mosquito-borne illness. Initially, the patient may continue with daily activities, but as it accumulates, symptoms gradually manifest. The worsening condition eventually reaches a critical stage where the patient's life is at risk. This comparison illustrates how Nigeria's problems have intensified over time, culminating in the current crippling economic situation.

Had subsidies not been removed at this juncture, Nigeria for don collapse kpata-kpata. Tinubu's ability to effect change would have been severely limited. International institutions such as the World Bank or IMF would hesitate to lend support, knowing that the country's capacity to repay loans is compromised, partly due to the pre-sale of substantial amounts of crude oil.

Shalom!

You supported Buhari for 8 years, did you know he was failing while you were supporting him?

Shehu Sani is indirectly telling us that Buhari was smarter than Tinubu in governance, because Buhari rejected IMF's advise while Tinubu followed their advise, now Tinubu supporters want us to believe that Tinubu is better than Peter Obi, the question to them: is Buhari better than Peter Obi?
Shehu Sabi himself should count himself as part of this disgrace. Immediately he was called to be a minister under this APC, he started praising Tinubu and urged Nigerians to be more patient. Now it's clear no way to defend this mess, he's blaming world bank and IMF

Even Buhari's supporters expressed disappointment in his performance. However, acknowledging his shortcomings does not negate the effectiveness of some of his policies; I have commended the successful ones while criticizing those that fell short. Despite not voting for a president, I believe in setting aside differences once they assume office and offering support whenever possible.

I refuse to adopt the stance of Obidients who dedicate years to hoping for their president's failure, relentlessly seeking negative news about their country, and dismissing any positive developments or accomplishments as mere propaganda. Notably, throughout Peter Obi's eight-year tenure, his constituents frequently voiced their discontent, as evidenced by Nairaland threads from 2012 and beyond. Yet, those same individuals, including yourself, insist on promoting him.

Supporting someone who is currently faltering may be problematic, but endorsing a candidate who has already demonstrated failure as a governor is even more misguided. Doing so is akin to knowingly deceiving others.

Gracias!

So why did you support Buhari's election in 2019 when you knew he had failed in his first term?

Interestingly, you seem to have overlooked the part where I mentioned that even Buhari's supporters voiced their dissatisfaction with his performance. This statement indirectly implies that I did not cast my vote for him in the 2015 and 2019 elections. Often, I abstain from participating in the voting process due to the belief that uneducated Nigerians predominantly influence the election outcomes. However, regardless of who is elected, I make it a point to offer my support and wish them well in their endeavors.

On the topic of Obi, I am curious to understand why you supported his candidacy in the 2023 elections, given that you were aware of his previous shortcomings as the governor of Anambra.

The present state of Nigeria is the product of regressive ideologies mixed with deceit by a certain set of people in order to try and achieve supremacy and dominance over a certain people even when it doesn't pay them...

It's intriguing how someone in the future might reference our past discussions and attempt to infer that I voted for Tinubu, when in reality, these exchanges don't provide sufficient evidence of my actual voting choices. Nonetheless, I can assert with confidence that, if given the choice, I would choose Tinubu over Obi and Atiku without hesitation.

Now, let's circle back to the question at hand: I am still curious to know your reasoning behind supporting Obi's candidacy in the 2023 elections, considering your knowledge of his previous shortcomings as the governor of Anambra.

but Obi's presidency is not the issue I have with Nigeria, in fact to me the presidency is a lesser issue to what has been revealed in Nigeria by Tinubu and Buhari's presidency, the bigger problem lies in the ideological differences, I've given up on the unity of Nigeria not because of the presidency, even if Peter Obi becomes president or any other Igbo man becomes president, my desire will be to still divide Nigeria because of the ideological differences.

To me, it is the biggest problem of Nigeria, I've removed mind from Nigeria's leadership, I'm here to speak the truth and possibly still see if we can still get better leadership while the division tarries because my desire is to divide Nigeria, so every region can run with their ideology as they like...

Dis one dey look for engagement. Like most Nigerians are dumb and stupid. Which government take away its main means of exchange petroleum(subsidy) knowing how bad this would be without using the subsidy for other important sectors? Look at what GEJ did with subsidy removal for just 3weeks ? It breeds in sure-p some food commodities become even cheaper. Now who are the big losers? The oil registered marketers because they receive money for nothing. I.E some of them don’t even purchase oil but they receive subsidy money crazy right. Ask yourself what wrong has IMF done?

Explain how Obi's presidency would benefit me. Did his governorship bring positive change to Anambra during his eight-year term? We have witnessed his poor performance and the criticism he faced from the Igbo community, as evidenced by Nairaland threads from 2012. Notably, Obi left Anambra to reside in Lagos with his fellow tribesmen who sought better opportunities there, while Tinubu remained in Lagos.

You mentioned, "The present state of Nigeria is the product of regressive ideologies mixed with deceit by a certain set of people in order to try and achieve supremacy and dominance over a certain people, even when it doesn't benefit them." I now realize that your statement accurately describes you and your tribesmen. You refuse to acknowledge any leadership qualities unless the leader is an Igbo man, even when their performance is lackluster. How can one exhibit more regressive ideology than that?

In a nation of over 200 million people in the 21st century, it is irrational to believe that everyone must share the same ideology to maintain unity. Do countries with larger populations than Nigeria, such as China, India, and Brazil, require a uniform ideology to function as a single entity? If Nigeria were divided into geopolitical zones, could the Igbos sustain themselves? We have observed that the Southeast struggles to generate sufficient revenue for self-sufficiency. This perceived dependence might explain their insistence on including regions like the South-South and parts of North Central in their proposed Biafra.

Do other languages not have the right to lead the country as well? What about the rights of minority tribes like ours? Must leadership be exclusive to the three major tribes? This is not democracy but rather "ethnocracy," as I previously mentioned. If Nigeria were to elect an Igbo man in 2027, regardless of his competence, you would be satisfied because leadership is your primary concern. If the Igbo cannot lead, should the country be divided? Should the other 500 languages demand the same? Would Nigeria even exist in such a scenario?

I sincerely engaged in this dialogue, believing that we were exchanging productive ideas as patriotic citizens. However, it is now evident that our discussion has been futile. Nonetheless, I appreciate your time, but our dialogue has reached an impasse. Please don't take offense if I don't reply further; I cannot afford to participate in unproductive exchanges that lead nowhere. Once again, thank you for your time.

Peace!

But IMF and World Bank did not stop us from building food infrastructures that can aid the nation

Imagine having a standard public transport system across the nation, insecurity will be solved by 60% cos these buses and their stakeholders can be tracked

Everyone knows where and who drives those vehicles

Even the Abuja that the president resides still looks like a glorified town

We need to do better than just attacking the World Bank

Our leaders build houses that no one can live in, they stash funds in both local and foreign accounts

They live an extravagant lifestyle, those are the real issues not all these

Like I said earlier on, you can keep doing what you're doing, let me keep doing what I am doing, you seem to be on a course that has been shaped by your ideology and we can see where that has brought Nigeria to its present state where people who are like you are in power today and have numerous supporters who share the same ideology....

That's the major reason I want Nigeria divided because I see that ideology as one that may never make Nigeria progress, it has nothing to do with an Igbo president.

Lol. Is the perceived inaccuracy in my argument related to the fact that Obasanjo initiated fuel subsidies and naira defense measures? Or does it concern the notion that his decisions have led to growing challenges that have weakened our economy? Buhari inherited an economy already in decline due to the effects of subsidy and naira defense, yet he continued paying subsidies and defending the naira until the country could no longer sustain it. He borrowed heavily and sold some of our crude oil in advance just to keep these policies going.

You condemn Buhari as though you would do better if given the chance. Buhari was just like you when Jonathan was president; he thought he could do better—promising one naira to one dollar and solutions to youth unemployment—until he got the opportunity, and for eight years only took the country backward. The presidency of Nigeria is like a football pitch: when you’re not playing, it’s easy to spot mistakes and criticize players for missed goals or poor passes, but once you’re on the pitch, you realize it’s as challenging for you as for anyone else. Buhari discovered this firsthand.

It’s not fair to label Tinubu as a failure like Jonathan and Buhari. Tinubu’s situation is unique and cannot be judged the same way, especially considering the poor economic state he inherited. So is his fault removing subsidy and floating the naira—policies that are good but come with their own challenges? Should he be called a failure just because the policy brings hardship? Furthermore, all the 2023 presidential aspirants, including Atiku and Obi, also planned to remove the subsidy and possibly float the naira. Lol, Are you upset simply because your preferred candidate did not lead these reforms?

Peace!
Even though removal of petrol n currency subsidies was right, Tinubu failed and is failing. Umahi built seven useless flyovers in Ebonyi but is still trying to replicate that wastage with subsidy funds saved. The issue is not the advise from WB or IMF. It is a function of a weak if not dead system.

It is like advising a drug addict to take up a second job to improve his pocket but retain his wasteful ways. He may die sooner.

It seems that if Obi were president, he wouldn't be struggling in his role. By now, he would have transformed Nigeria into a prosperous nation akin to Dubai, right? And all his ministers would undoubtedly possess saintly qualities, competence, and be infallible. I regret to inform you, but I don't consider Obi a viable option. grin

And with the things Tinubu did, has the borrowing reduced or increase? did the inflation reduce or increase? revenue you are claiming increased only increased in number not value, in some cases even decreased in value due to devaluation of naira, so what exactly has Tinubu achieved?
If you live in the western world, you’d know the importance of credit score. Most of these borrowings aren’t a threat to our economy. We just like raising false alarms in this country. You want Nigeria’s to be like USA or uk or China abi, but you don’t want to borrow to build infrastructure. If you have the mentality of “they are borrowing to steal”, you won’t have a positive reasoning. Yes they are accountable to us, but we must all give them the benefit of the doubt. No be everything be embezzlement, check the number of roads that are being constructed and the quality, then you can start doing your maths. We just need to be open minded and ask the right questions.
