Total Commences $15bn Egina Project by Rhino5dm: 10:58am On Jun 26, 2013 |
By MICHAEL EBOH, With Agency ReportTotal SA has commenced the development of the $15 billion (N2.4trillion) Nigeria’s offshore Egina field as part of its plan to boost production. The company said first oil from the field, which is part of the Oil Mining Lease, OML 130, is expected at the end of 2017, with output reaching 200,000 barrels of oil a day.The company further stated that the project will be started after it obtained the necessary approvals from authorities in the oil and gas sector to award the main contracts. Christophe de Margerie, Chief Executive Officer, Total, said the company will use proceeds from asset sales to pay dividends and develop oil and gas projects rather than make acquisitions. The company also pledged to try harder to make large oil and gas discoveries in a bid to raise production. The company said, “The Egina project calls for 44 wells connected to a 330 meter-long floating production, storage and offloading vessel which can store 2.3 million barrels, “Locally worked hours will reach about 75 per cent for Egina as part of a plan to boost local content of Nigerian projects. ”Total is operator of Egina with a 24 per cent interest. The other partners are Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, South Atlantic Petroleum of Nigeria, Cnooc Limited and Petroleo Brasilero SA. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/06/total-commences-15bn-egina-project/ 3 Likes |

This is the biggest project to be executed in the history of Nigeria and kodus to Jonathan's administration for making it possible. The sweetest part of this is, the government zeroed the expatriate quota on this project as part of the MoU to boost local contents i.e. nearly all the manpower and suppliers will be local. Very soon, all the jobless grown folks on nairaland will be no more (Afam4eva comes to mind) 13 Likes |

Okija_juju: Dude, Look, there's a serious crackdown on these expatriates. Initially, I thought the government officials are just bluffing as usual, until they refused us access to an expatriate we are seeking to employ from uk. They told us to advertise the job on a national daily for 3 weeks after which we can seek for an expatriate. |

Rhino.5dm: Bros.. Al I will tell you is to go and wait at the Total building by Eko Hotel. Thats where Egina Project is situated. Infact, its only Egina in that building. Try and count the number of Oyinbos versus Blacks that leave the building after work.. I read this and laughed. A colleague just started work in that building.. Says it feels like France when once you pass reception. Total is still recruiting Oyinbos like crazy. Just this week.. 3 joined my project team. Meanwhile, no black has been recruited since I've been here o! 3 Likes |

Okija_juju: Local content stuff is a ruse. Advertising a position in local media is a mere formality, just say all candidates are not qualified and hire your expat. Simple as abc. Nigeria needs to kill NNPC, set up a competent oil platform in mode of Petrobras and develop local experts that can run the oil industry. Until we have a competent local partner who can reasonably give these oil majors decent competition, we should talk about something else. |
Re: Total Commences $15bn Egina Project by Rhino5dm: 4:26pm On Jun 26, 2013 |
Okija_juju: Stop muddling up things. Last year we had a project that requires 200 hundred engineers to do the FEED; normally this stage of the project will be carried out in Paris by French engineers. But you know what? The local content guys forced us to recruit 110 local engineers, but there was an issue with competency of those to be employed locally; so the French guys came up an excuse of not getting the required level of experience as agreed on the contract document and all that and they got waiver to bring in some expatriates. They are looking for holes in the system to continue bringing in quacks as expatriates. The battle is on, only if our authorities won't chicken out. 1 Like |

Rhino.5dm: Well, I'm not conversant with the ops of Egina.. But all I know is that NAPIMS are jokers. Competence abi.. Just the same way the Oyinbo that me and him are doing the exact same job on my project is more competent than I am and this deserves to earn my pay in 3 days.. All I know is that this local content quota they published is not the true situation on ground. #fact. Most of the blacks on Egina are support staff. Eko towers is there for anyone interested to verify to visit. 150 million Nigerians and we are not competent to handle certain positions. My brother.. Fogerrabout.. |

Total Awards $3bn Egina Oil Field Contract to Saipem Total Logo Total Upstream Nigeria, a joint venture partner of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has awarded a $3 billion contract for the subsea development of the Egina oil field to Italian oil and gas industry contractor, Siapem. Under the deal, Siapem, a subsidiary of Italian oil giant Eni, will carry out engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and pre-inauguration of 52 kilometres of oil production and water injection flowlines. The deal will also provide 12 flexible jumpers, 20 kilometres of gas export pipelines, 80 kilometres of umbilicals, and of the mooring and offloading systems, with installation work to be carried in 2016 and 2017. Most of the fabrication work, according to the firm, would be carried out at the Saipem Rumoulumeni yard in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in line with Nigeria’s local content requirements. In a statement issued yesterday, the company stated that: “The fabrication activities will be almost entirely performed in Nigeria and most of them inthe Saipem Rumoulumeni Yard in Port Harcourt, further improving the already high level of local content reached for theUsan Field Development Project, which has been carried out by Saipem for the same client. “This very large contract confirms the leading role of Saipem in the deep water activities and in Nigeria where Saipem is present since the late 1960s and has been involved in all Country’s major developments as one of the few international contractors able to operate maximising the local content, ensuring business sustainability and, therefore, fulfilling the country requirements.” The contract for the development of the new build floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for the Egina was recently awarded to South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries. Samsung emerged the preferred bidder in a keenly contested bidding process conducted by the National Petroleum Investment Management System (NAPIMS), the investment arm of the NNPC, and the NNPC group executive committee, headed by Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke. Total, it was gathered, would also use the FPSO to develop the Egina deep-water field, located some 150 kilometres off the coast of Nigeria in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 130. The field is scheduled to come on stream in 2017. The vessel would have topside modules with a gross dry weight of 34,000 tonnes and was expected to be delivered on schedule for production activities by 2014. Total has a 24 per cent stake in OML 130, while NNPC has 10 per cent, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), 45 per cent, South Atlantic Petroleum SAPETRO, five per cent and Petrobras, 16 per cent. http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/total-awards-3bn-egina-oil-field-contract-to-saipem/151579/ 2 Likes |
