I'd like to add color to the assessments about the war, by introducing the context of the pre-War dynamic. October 7 was not a surprise. Between January 1 and October 6, 2023 the Israelis had killed 227 Palestinians. Shortly before the war, the Israelis conducted a drone strike in the West Bank for the first time since 2006. In July, the IDF launched the largest operation in the West Bank in more than two decades. They announced the operation would continue indefinitely. In May, the IDF conducted an airstrike in Gaza against the Islamic Jihad killing three top commanders. They conducted this assassination ONE WEEK after an Egyptian-mediated ceasefire that ended an exchange following another earlier Israeli assassination. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/05/08/israel-strike-gaza-attack-jihad/ Satanyahu had been unilaterally provoking and pushing for an escalation for a reason. With the Abraham Accords in effect, negotiations underway with Saudi Arabia, and the Ukraine war seemingly continuing with near-zero pressure on Russia from the Global Majority, the Israelis finally became confident that the time had come to put an end to the dream of Palestinian statehood and annex and occupy West Bank and Gaza. Ideally, they needed a trigger. October 7 was that trigger. But why did Hamas oblige the Israelis. Because they too had seen the direction the winds were blowing. They watched Satanyahu give statements in September imploring Palestinians that resistance was futile and that they'll absorb Palestinian territories. Usually, these would have been interpreted as reckless, provocative statements without bite. But Satanyahu had increasingly been biting. On the pile of evidence was the rising death count, expanding military action, and assassinations. The Resistance could either stay in a boiling beaker and wake up one day to facts on the ground negating the possibility of a Palestinian statehood or they could launch a military campaign that would bring the Palestinian issue back to the forefront of global discussion. Many frame this as a difficult choice, in light of the price Palestine has paid, but it wasn't. It was a Hail Mary. There was no alternative. Satanyahu was not going to unilaterally stop killing Palestinians, terminate military operations, or stop settlement expansion. In war or peace time. Doesn't matter. His goal of ending Palestine statehood was proceeding without a hitch. Even though war was inevitable, Hamas sent SOSs to verify that Israel indeed was bent on persistent escalations. Months before the attack, in December 2022, Hamas released a video about paragliding militants. In September, less than one month before D Day, the released a video where militants were training to blow up the border. The Resistance intended these releases as warnings to get Israel to step back from further escalation. But the Israelis saw the videos and rubbed their hands in glee, seeing their plan to entrap the Resistance as coming to fruition. When Saudi Arabia and Egypt delivered warnings of an impending operation, they ignored the warnings because they looked forward to the attack. There have now been several puzzling operational decisions prior to and on D Day on the Israeli side that support the hypothesis that they either had foreknowledge of the attack or were not particularly disposed to preventing it. They needed the attack to trigger the final war to end the Palestinian question. All facts stated above are verifiable. Here we are, two years after, and Palestine is the defining global issue of this generation. A testament to how badly the Israeli plan backfired. This is the worst strategic defeat for Israel since the Lebanon civil war in the 80s. Satanyahu destroyed all the preparatory work of previous PMs and intel chiefs. The reunification of Gaza and West Bank polity that had seemed impossible has been achieved because of this war. More than a dozen more recognitions of Palestine statehood, erosion of support in the West and particularly in the US, the complete rehabilitation of Hamas, all three were impossible without the genocide. Abbas has finally, after more than two decades, accepted reforms. Because of the genocide. Satanyahu anticipated that October 7 will be Israel's Pearl Harbor. The attack that would have ended Palestine and made Israel the predominant power in the Middle East. The list of objectives were long, from ethnic cleansing to attacking Iran to freedom of movement to conduct strikes anywhere including in Gulf Western allies. Most of them backfired hard. It's remarkable really because immediately after the attack, it did look like the plan had come together perfectly. You had politicians signing IDF bombs. Now, everyone is going out of their way to express their opposition. How far we have come. Success has many friends and failure is an orphan. Palestine has many friends the world over and Israel is a pariah. -Lord |

Michaeltreasure:Attacking a civilian population ≠ Attacking Hamas. Bombing hospitals ≠ Bombing Hamas tunnels. Killing children ≠ Killing Hamas fighters. If Israel wants to win, then it should focus on fighting Hamas and not on bombing civilians. |

WriteerNg:Na you find trouble this time. Because Afghanistan was on its own before you went to bomb it. And the speed at which the Taliban responded is shocking. No time for cho cho cho. No time for talking or bragging. They went straight into violence mode. Looks like they have always been ready. I remember the Taliban was complaining about being bored like a year ago and saying they wanted a war. They have seen it. Pakistan will collect. |

shoodboi2:Thank you sir. Please suggest how the Israeli IDF should face Hamas while leaving out innocent Palestinians in a place like Gaza. How do the Israeli armed forces take out Hamas fighters when they've blended well with the civilians, making it almost impossible identifying Hamas fighters? I'll like to read your suggestions, sir... |

Defense Minister Israel Katz: The major challenge for Israel after the [first] stage of returning the hostages will be the destruction of all of Hamas’s terror tunnels in Gaza, both directly by the IDF and through the international mechanism that will be established under US leadership and oversight. This is the primary meaning of implementing the agreed principle of demilitarizing the Gaza Strip and disarming Hamas. I have instructed the IDF to prepare to carry out the mission. |

🇮🇱 Dafna Liel: Note Netanyahu's sentence in his statement: "Some of our enemies are trying to rehabilitate themselves." It can be assumed that he means the Iranians, because Hamas has not yet managed, and in Lebanon, Israel attacks when necessary |

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement to the media: "Citizens of Israel, My brothers and sisters. This is an emotional evening. An evening of tears, an evening of joy. Because tomorrow, sons will return to their borders. This is a historic event that is tinged with sadness over the release of murderers - and joy over the return of kidnapped people. This is a historic event that there were those who did not believe would happen. But our fighters believed. Many in the nation believed. And I believed. I know that there are many differences among us. But on this day, and I hope that also in the period that is coming, we have every reason to put them aside. Because with joint forces we have achieved tremendous victories. Victories that have astonished the entire world. And I want to say: Wherever we fought - we won. But at the same time, I must tell you: the campaign is not over. There are still very big security challenges ahead of us. Some of our enemies are trying to recover in order to attack us again. And as they say here - 'We are on it.' There are also great opportunities that we did not know existed – precisely because of the victories we brought. I am convinced that with joint forces we will overcome the challenges and realize the opportunities. During the war, my wife and I met many times with the families of the kidnapped. We saw their pain, their longing, their tears. These meetings accompanied me in every decision I made during the war. We hugged the families, and I promised them: “I will not rest until I bring back your loved ones.” I would like to thank the IDF soldiers, the commanders, the security forces, the bereaved families who lost their dearest, our wounded heroes who bear their pain in body and soul, and I would like to thank you, the citizens of Israel. You who stood firm, day after day, with love for our country and faith in the righteousness of our path. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new path. A path of construction, a path of healing, and I hope - a path of uniting hearts. Together we will continue to strengthen our country, together we will continue to win, and with God's help - together we will ensure the eternity of Israel.

⚡Trump: Ukraine needs Patriots very badly. They’d like to have Tomahawks. We’ll see. I might have to speak to Russia about that. Tomahawks are a new step of aggression. If this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks. It’s an incredible, very offensive weapon. |
