Some irate fans attacked the match officials during Kano Pillars’ Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Sunday, News360 Nigeria reports.

Chaos ensued at the final whistle shortly after Shooting Stars scored a late equaliser in the match held at the Sani Abacha stadium in Kano.

Mustapha Jibrin had given Pillars an early lead in the ninth minute. But deep into the added time of the second half, Adams Mustapha equalised for Shooting, and the home crowd became hostile.

At the end of the game, a section of the home fans invaded the pitch and attacked the match officials.

Videos going viral on social media show the pitch invaders belining for the referees with missiles and punches.

Some 3SC players and officials were also not exempt from the assault. Ismail Ayodele and Adams Agba’a were caught in the fire and suffered head injuries.

Security operatives had to use teargas before the invaders were dispersed, and their victims could be led to safety.

Three months exile loading...

This is not the first time and won't be the last time

England used to have the same problem. How they solved it was renovating stadiums, segregation of fans and identifying and banning fans who caused trouble and cctv cameras everywhere. Oh and fans who were known thugs were banned from travelling overseas to support the three lions.

Make we learn am for Nigeria. We are lucky we haven't had a event similar to Heysel in 1985.

Fan violence is as old as the hills in this country.

NFF will issue the usual three months exile punishment. Pillars will have to play their home games in a stadium several states away.

No Team in NPFL can pull that much crowd in every game..Only Kano Pillars..
Any match official should forget about match fixing if it comes to Pillars especially home match.
From 3-7pm every open free space is a foot ball pitch in Kano.
Kano are mindful of football.
Betting and Gambling is haram in Islam, therefore their love for football is Pure and Genuine.

Referees usually favour the home team because they're always afraid of this kind of backlash from home fans.

So no police to checkmate the crowd.

In EPL you will see security turning their backs to the pitch & facing the crowd.
But here, police go leave the crowd and concentrate on watching the match.

I trust England. If this kind of stuff happens in the premier league, officials are ready to ban the club for 3months plus heavy fine. That is why abroad is different from Africa.

They know that they can get away with it, that is why they had the guts to attack the ref.
