Hunger Amongst My People Motivated Me Into Politics - Akpabio by Imindmywords(op): 10:29am On Oct 13, 2025
The President of the Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio recently stated that Hunger amongst his people motivated him to join politics.

While urging youths not to give up on Nigeria, the President of the Senate stated this during the programme ''Uncommon Evening with Akpabio" held at the All Progressive Congress Youth Wing in Abuja on the 10th of October. Akpabio while interacting with Nigerian youths in their teeming numbers disclosed that the socio economic situation of his people was not pleasant as they were usually known to me security men (Gatemen) and housemaids referred to as Ekaete, or Akpan.

It is noteworthy that His Excellency Godswill Akpabio changed the narratives of the Akwa Ibom people as he transformed the state not just in infrastructure but human capital development as the state has now become a tourist heaven with blooming economic activities.

Akpabio also referred to a trending video online from Daddy Freeze about a testimony from a young man he met midair onboard a flight and how he helped him years ago with $85,000 which has established him.

His Excellency Godswill Akpabio was a two term Governor from 2007 to 2015, Elected as Senator in 2015, Minister in 2019 and now is currently serving as the 15th president of the Nigerian Senate since 2023.

I was there live and can attest to the inspiring stories shared by the President of the Senate from his days as Governor of Akwa-Ibom, how he transformed the fortunes of the indigenes of the state to the infrastructure.

Akpabio is a good man

Godswill Akpabio is probably the best governor of Akwa Ibom State since 1999. At least Akpabio built several world-class projects in the state, while Udom Emmanuel established Ibom Air. Governors are now receiving our subsidy money, what's Govenor Eno doing with theirs?

One of the best and most competent presidents in African history was John Kufuor of Ghana.

When asked what motivated him to join politics, he said ‘I joined politics to make money for my family and friends’.

But in Nigeria, politicians declare for the masses but they are actually there for their pocket.

I was there live too, but I left there more disappointed than I was, he kept emphasizing on how he made boys into men, even played a video of a guy who met him inside an aircraft and he transformed his life, when will this people understand that they're public servants! They think themselves a small God, build systems and institutions such that I don't need to meet you. Build strong institutions not people. The youths who were supposed to be angry were there cheering him, when seyi was going out youths were head over heels trying to give him cv and proposals, it was shame, when you go to UK and USA even as a foreigner you don't fight to meet 'big men's the systems and institutions are there to serve everyone fairly and equally. Youths wake up!

Re: Hunger Amongst My People Motivated Me Into Politics - Akpabio by hotseat: 11:54am On Oct 13, 2025
Poverty or hunger of "your" people shouldn't be used as an excuse for going into politics.

It should rather be a motivation for "selfless service" to the people.

I'm sure, in your claim of the "hunger" of Akwa Ibomites, you equally hit a gold mine for yourself, family and friends as well.

Stealing by trick is equal to stealing.

Akpabio lacks discretion or decorum and makes one twitch anytime he speaks!

Let him have a padlock to his lips!

When Former President Obama visited Africa as president, he made a comment that I will never forget: Africa builds strong men, not strong institutions.

Several years later, we haven't identified that as a problem and tackle it. Tomorrow, someone will still blame white people for underdeveloping Africa, forgetting that we did worse things to ourselves.

Government is continum, you will agree that Akpabio did very well in Infrastructure and human capital development. For the Institutions to be stronger is left for successive administration and the situation of the country in general.

Despite the fact that he became Governor and Senate President, his people are still producing Akpans and Ekaetes en masse

It seems like a Traditional thing with Akwa Ibomites

Mr. Senate President no lie

It was through compensation for quality services your late father render to the old Cross Rivers State and his contributions for successfully ceded of Akwa from Cross Rivers State that earned you the position of a commissioner in 1999 and that's out your political journey begun.

Then when favour came to ur family no one was interested, late Nsima Akpabio the only
well now politician in was gone and that's how the family remember you in Lagos State where you were managing a small law chamber and brought you home to take the position that was well reserved for your family.
