Edo debunks claim of selling 14,000 hectares of land to 17-year-old

The Edo Geographic Information Service has dismissed reports claiming that a 17-year-old boy purchased 14,000 hectares of land in the state.

A viral post on social media alleged that Governor Monday Okpebholo suspended the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy after the purported discovery.

However, the agency, in a statement signed by its Director of Press, Tunde Egbiremonlen, on Monday, described the report as false and mischievous.

Egbiremonlen said no such transaction exists in the agency’s records, noting that a 17-year-old is legally a minor and cannot register land ownership under Edo law.

The statement read, “The Edo GIS system will automatically reject such applications due to age restrictions.

“In the first place, a 17-year-old cannot apply for registration of land in Edo State because he is a minor; the Edo GIS system will automatically reject the application.

“To compound the objective of the rumour-mongers, the peddlers of the story did not explain where in Edo State, such 14,000 hectares were purchased by the minor.”

Edo GIS urged the public to disregard the claims, which it said were being circulated by individuals who allegedly spent large sums of money to spread misinformation.

Okpebholo has in recent months taken steps to reform land administration in the state, including the revocation of a contract with a private firm that previously managed the software for Certificates of Occupancy.

14,000 hecters is very huge, but that 14,000 hecters u will fill in around 50times inside benin up to uromi area.

That 14,000 hecters = 140kmsquare
Benin alone is around = 1,500kmsquare
Benin strecth to uromi is around 7,500kmSquare

The total developed area where there are houses in that benin to uromi axis is around 700kmsquare let's say 1000kmsquare(100,000 hecters) at most. So the rest land are bushes around 6,000kmsquare(600,000hecters).

14,000 hecters is very huge amd the suze of sone LGA and big estate. But u can still get 50 of it around the bushy area of benin to uromi axis.. just get your money and go for the required approval from the government if you need it. U go see am plenty

My point is in as much as the claim where a 17year old boy bought a 17,000 hecters is false amd misleading, your own claim that 14,000 hecters is tge whole benin strecth to uromi axis is also false and misleading. Lol. Sorry
