Why announce what’s still under review as a final decision? This government is just inept !
Re: Presidential Pardon Still Under Review — FG by Efuaye(m): 6:49pm On Oct 16, 2025
There is a major problem with this government in how it manages crises.
They are never given to details because they are in a hurry to politicize and use everything for propaganda!

But people who take lives will be pardoned? Religion has a major play in the hatred towards NK.

Tinubu pardoning Drug Barons; There is esprit de corps in all institutions and occupations, even the military and police recognise their colleagues. I ask for your understanding so that Mr President is not distracted from the next working visit.

Yeah, to pardon convicted criminals, kidnappers, murderers and drug peddlers...
Yes, every Presidents do. The Military Governments did, GEJ did, Buhari did. You have the right to pardon anybody. Even in the US, the President pardons murderers. Know this and know peace.

How can the president open declaration still under review? Are we really serious in this country or Are we just deceiving ourselves and pretending to be a country with zero moral values in the eyes of the world. This is so shameful

....This is a critical stage in the process. grin
This particular stage doesn't exist anywhere in a presidential pardon. They are reacting to public backlash...so don't make it look like it is normal to pardon people, then go back to say the process is under review...a government should be bold enough to admit it's error and move on

What about the ones freed?
Re: Presidential Pardon Still Under Review — FG by hotseat: 6:58pm On Oct 16, 2025
The FG is beating a clever retreat to avoid the avalanche of criticisms from many Nigerians who saw the inclusion of certain names in the list as an abuse of presidential pardon.

This is the way to go!

Only deserving individuals should be accorded such a rare privilege.

Well, anyone can make a mistake, that's why pencils have erasers.

For now, MNK hasn't been convicted of any crime and therefore cannot be granted any form of presidential pardon.

For him to be granted a presidential pardon, he must first and foremost be convicted of a particular crime.

Besides, presidential pardons are at the discretion of the President.

No amount of cheap political blackmail would make a president to grant anyone a pardon.

Are we clear?

They want to pardon Anini and Monday Osunbor too?
Definitely, the late Anini would be pardoned in the new list - but - am not sure of late Monday Osunbor being in the list. Criminals, are right now in charge of Nigerian!
Re: Presidential Pardon Still Under Review — FG by VonSmallhausen: 7:10pm On Oct 16, 2025
They had better review it!!
Security agencies cannot suffer to catch criminals using the limited resources available to them, sometime at the cost of their lives and limbs and then you pardon the criminals after a few years.
That is an invitation to jungle justice!!!

The President has the right under the constitution to pardon anybody. Not only the politicians jailed for corruption deserve pardon.
Who says the president does not have the power to pardon so far, is English a challenge ?

the whole idea of clemency started from the people in greece, it was the people that were supposed to sign off an inmate pardon ...but the requisite vote 60, 000 to secure a pardon was infeasible then they delegated the power to the king

Clemency must resonate forgiveness from not just the presidency but the society cos the inmate need acceptance back into the society not Aso rock.

FiY, there are clauses to clemency when it concerns "capital crime" i think the inmate must have served @least 10/15yrs .. the ones Tinubu release did they meet the clause

where is folake4u when i need her the most
