If this is viewed as an achievement by many, then congrats to SA. If I were to be honest, we really do not want Walmart in Naija. Like someone mentioned on this thread, Walmart is really good at running down small businesses that operate within their vicinity. We are not even talking about how they squeeze supply chains with their demand for a high volume of products with a slim margin. Make dem gerrat abeg, we no want! |

franchasng:Investment goes where there's purchasing power.. It's for the same reason why there's an iPhone store in the middle of Soweto. Sellers sell to buyers, economics 101, not this Uncle Ruckis bs you're spewing |

The irony is that the people who stand to lose the most if a chain like Walmart sets up shop big time in Nigeria ultimately are the Ibos. They are the traders, they are the ones involved in shopkeeping. You think you can do fake or cheap products? You don’t have the bulk purchasing power of Walmart. When they negotiate with a supplier they are negotiating for over 10,000 stores. The price you pay for low quality at your Chinese supplier is more than what Walmart will pay for grade1 because when they negotiate with their suppliers they negotiate for all their stores worldwide. You can’t compete with Walmart. Walmart will undercut you with genuine products and will operate at a loss for 5 years if need be to wipe out their competition. So be careful what you wish for! Walmart sells everything from tyres and spare parts to TVs and electronics to groceries and toothpicks and they have their online store. They will wipe you lot out of the retail sector in 10yrs if they decide to take on Nigeria! So Please do t get it twisted, WallMart is not ShopRite that ran away. If they come to Nigeria Ibo retailers are in trouble! I have said I don’t want them here but if they do, I will not see a Walmart and choose to shop at a typical retail outlet where we dont know if the products are fake, dates altered, integrity of the supply chain etc. |

kpankpangolo:Your 230M population with shitty purchasing power They should leave a relatively stable market and go to an unstable one, because they want to sell to 230 million population. Where Chairman senate committee on commerce will demand bribes from them anytime there is an issue. Where incase they have a fire outbreak at their store, Federal Fire Service will tell them they dont have water to come and put out the fire. |

Disenfranchised:The question you should first asked yourself is "do we even need Wallmart in Nigeria" seriously I don't know what is the important of Wallmart to me or anyone, honestly I don't know. So what is your point? |

kpankpangolo:see mentality…that’s why you don’t even have any business ,investors don’t reason like fishes.TikTok,meta, google and likes can’t reason like dumbs, even Walmart can’t say this rubbish |
| Re: Walmart Reveals First Store On African Soil - PICTURES by Nazgul: 9:22pm On Oct 16, 2025 |
kpankpangolo:You mean 230M poor population. Shoprite stores are literally empty despite our population. It's not just about population, they'd have to carry out a market research to determine the percentage of that population that can consistently afford their stores. Sadly the figures after their market research would be embarrassing. |

RandDigital:Excerpts from your post: "Walmart first bought a 51% stake in Massmart in 2010 and completed full ownership in 2022" Meaning Walmart already had FULL ownership since 2010 because 51% quantifies ownership...Oga, they have being in Africa since 2010, Mind You, Game have been operating in Nigeria for years before this outdated information of yours. |

[quote author=Disenfranchised post=137150559]Whatever happen to tinubu ragos. With all the globe trotting them snub your country to a country that their president sits in one place and fix their country. Some of you cannot carefully read before typing rubbish, the poster said; the first Walmart in Africa, so what brings about Tinubu and Lagos here? I believe you were not been given birth by then because this was before Walmart was in Africa before the 1999 civilian government. So what are you really saying? Tinubu should've beg Walmart to come to Lagos or what?. |

RandDigital:They have ShopRite and other outlets in SA to compete with based off of their business models. Walmart has done well with the rebranding process so far which shows long-term confidence in the SA retail space. |

Good to know it is in SA. Nigerians lack the purchasing power. Our economy is only good on paper. Need I remind them about the money they will use for diesel daily because our country lacks good power supply? In all, Nigeria is not an investment destination at the moment. Let no one deceive you. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I spit on the green and white colours. |

BreakingNews21:There's no so-called "xenophobic" violence in SA, it's a lie...nobody bumps into a Mozambican and just randomly attack, it's all exaggerated.. There's anti-immigration sentiment, not violence... infact, the reverse is true, any move by police or the government is met by attacks from the foreigners who are mostly illegals. Let's stop exaggerating these so-called "xenophobic attacks," they simply aren't there |

Come to Nigeria and operate like ShopRite did, you'd be disgraced out of Naija, I wonder how ShopRite would have only 2 locations in the whole of Ibadan, we just park them! They shut out of frustration |
