Stop making it look like the neck of SE is tied to Nigeria like Sallah ram.

Why did your leaders chickened out when Buhari wanted to give you your 5states Biafra,?

Why did your leaders ran to Arewa to beg when ultimatum was given to SE to vacate the north?

Why did many of you including your leaders got jittery when a random Twitter asked you to leave SW?

Nothing in the character of an Igbo man show he want to leave Nigeria
It could be the same reason people like you want a united Nigeria that has never worked, and never will work

Its all about what you people can gain from the rot called 'one Nigeria'

You clearly don't know anything about the Biafran War and the moral discipline that guided Ojukwu and the Igbos.
Ojukwu had every opportunity to win the war.
For your info, France and several foreign interests were willing to recognize and support Biafra fully with weapons, machinery and troops in exchange for oil. Yet, Ojukwu refused to compromise the future of the minorities or sell out the Eastern Region for foreign gain.

He could have turned the struggle into a purely Igbo agenda but he chose to protect the unity and dignity of all the peoples under Biafra, including the minorities .
That decision wasn’t foolishness, it was a display of conscience and leadership that valued justice over victory.

So, while some of you with limited knowledge may boast about defeating Biafra, history will remember that Ojukwu and the Igbos fought with honour and restraint. They had the means to win but chose not to betray their values and that’s something no amount of military triumph can erase.....
Lol... Guyman run away dressed like a woman. Shut up..

If they ask you that as a Yoruba man you are, can you write in one or two paragraphs what Igbos did to you personally that warrant the kind of hatred you harbor for Igbos, can you?

You are wasting your precious time and energy hating people that hold no grudge against you.

It is Igbos that ought to be showing complete disdain towards you because:

1.) They noticed our inability to live in peace and made attempt to secede for peace to reign, but you instead joined forces with Northern Nigeria backed by Britain/Egypt/Arab Nations/USSR to fight them and force them to rejoin your Nigerian union that refused to work

2.) You and majority of your people have been doing everything humanly possible to stop an Igbo person from becoming Nigeria's President.

3.) You use politics of division and treachery to corner all the goodies that comes from Nigeria's central government to your region and also mock Igbos for coming to your region after using federal politics of gangup with the North to corner national resources and infrastructures to your region (Lagos).

4.) A man from your region is President and continues to hold Nnamdi Kanu fighting for freedom and equal treatment for his people, instead of your brother to wash off his hands from Buhari's mistakes and release him to go, he continues to hold him, ask yourself if an Igbo person as President is doing this how would you and your people feel?

5.) Your tribesman who is the President has shown so much disdain and neglect to Igbos and Southeast without remorse or shame in all he does yet to people like you, it is normal

6.) In 1970 when the civil war ended, a Yoruba man, Awolowo headed the economic and financial team of the Nigerian federal government that seized every money Igbos had in Nigerian banks before the civil war started and only handed Igbos with proof of having an account in Nigerian banks just 20 pounds no matter how many thousands or millions they had in bank before the war broke out. My father said he had over 700 pounds saved in a Nigerian bank before the war broke out because he was a young unmarried civil servant saving massively to build a house and buy a Volkswagen beetle before getting married and then the civil war broke out and he lost all and after the war ended, Awolowo's policy made him got only 20 pounds and sacked from Nigeria's civil service job. He started from scratch again in 1970.

7.) Awolowo also brought the starvation policy during the civil war that led to heartbreaking starvation and hunger in Biafra during the war which led to deaths of millions of Igbo civilians, mostly children and elderly, which forced Biafra elites to beg Ojukwu to please surrender to save Igbo children from further dying of hunger.

These are just but a few of atrocities your people committed against Igbos as a whole that affected virtually every Igbo person, now tell me why you despise the Igbos so much that you always speak with bitterness even on casual topics that don't warrant such bitterness?
Shut up...
Na Nnamdi Azikwe block secession clause..
Na Igbo lead the first coup...

Then stop saying Nigeria is holding you back, you don't need anyone to chart your destiny for you.

But as perpetual dependant you had always wanted other people to fight your fight.

You want the SW and the North to give you Biafra when you can get today if you so wish, just like you have to wait for Sowore to lead a protest to free MNK after 5 years in detention.

You clearly don’t know the Igbos. They are a people who will always choose death over chains and oppression.
Read about the Igbo Landing of 1803 on St. Simons Island, Georgia — one of the most powerful acts of resistance in human history. When captured Igbo slaves faced with the horror of enslavement, rose against their captors and collectively walked boldly into the sea and drowned while singing in Igbo language. They chose death with dignity rather than a life of humiliation. That same spirit runs in the blood of every Igbo person today

Gowon was the Head of State, Ojukwu was the governor of Eastern region under Gowon's command. To threaten your commander in Chief with cessation is treason. Well he tried his luck and lost and sent his people backwards by 100 years. The rest is history.

January 1967

Gowon and Ojukwu meet in Aburi, at the Hill top Mansion of the President of Ghana, General Joe Ankrah

Civil war is looming and both men meet to prevent it. They agree on the terms Nigeria will continue with as one country "during the period of Military rule".

Both men sign the agreement in front of General Ankrah, then shake hands. This agreement is now historically known as "The Aburi Accord"

When they return to Nigeria, Gowon breaks the agreement by enacting Decree 14 and 15. Ojukwu responds with the declaration of Biafra

Civil war follows

Such is life
Can you please tell us how Gowon reneged on the Aburi accord? In response to the accord gowon enacted decree 14 and 15 but alas, it was not enough for Ojukwu.
What part of aburi accord did gowon failed to addressed with his decrees that necessitated Ojukwu going to war by declaring biafra?
I have been hearing this narrative that gowon reneged on aburi and that was why, ojukwu had no other choice/s but war with all its attendant consequnces. It must have been a very significant part of the agreement to Ojukwu.

The way people from the eastern part of the river Niger try to twist history to fit their narrative is something that needs to be study. OJUKWU was defeated by Nigeria, Same as Kanu and every other person who tends to follow that pact. That BIAFRA will only be giving to you when the hausa and Yoruba decide but for now keep making noise on Nairaland.

Gowon did not owe a defeated Biafra anything. When two nations or two people fight the lower in this case Biafra does not have any right to dictate any terms. So to hell me Biafra n Aburi accord.

If the Aburi accord was so valid make Ojukwu enforce. A foolish man beaten blueblack can not tell who as beaten his foolish soul to death how to share the profit he was beaten for.

What is the point of all this again.. Nigeria is a country as a whole now.. History should be celebrated but with purposeful and positive reinforcement for future generations.

While people or factions can have their differences in opinion about the outcome of this whole issue, it is without a doubt and glaring and as far as history recalled it, a General started what he couldn't finish. He has never been the only none in history. And even extensively when people offered to help at least achieve that aim of his, his camps position was indecisive. They wanted it all to themselves because they see themselves as being able to. As gallant as it may be, gallantry alone is not a personalized attribute. We are all gallant in our own ways. And there's more to winning a war, not a battle but a war than gallantry...

Even with restrain in my own opinion and particularly saying it is a faulty thing to hold on to one self esteem but still it displayed how shrewd the agenda for Biafra was. Which was simply to step on everything and everyone. And to prove they can do it all by themselves. A man with no friend is a ghost and same goes for all his ideas, strength and courage no matter how grand.

And as far as history will remember it, if and when the day does comes that Nigeria as a nation stands in absolute unity and shines more brighter than it is at its current trajectory, General Gowon will always be the one to be revered, against the odd as the leader who held onto the founding fathers dream in keeping Nigeria as a whole irregardless of the insurmountable task dawned on him at that early age of his life. Keeping a country together at all cost. Whatever it takes because of future benefits for generations to come. That is the ultimate sacrifice. Even though admittedly It's hard to see now as living Nigerian, but that touch remains and still shines brighter as an indisolvable and an indivisible sovereign state. But that is the essence of it. Our generation might not unite but surely we have produced a united generation, a generation with the Nigerian identity. And they are flying and shining. How soon will that prophesy come to pass now that the sacrifices and labors of our heroes past hasn't been in vain.

As for now, let the Biafra Sun set in peace and let the Nigeria Sun keep on rising in strength. A war was fought to keep us together as a nation. It's that simple. And as for today, I can say that it is not the whole eastern state that are still clamouring for secession but rather, only the rebels living in those states.

Section 7 of the Aburi agreement stated that during the period Nigeria was under Military rule, Gowon, or whoever was Military Head of state, was not to change the existing structural arrangement of Nigeria, 4 Regions controlling their resources, unless the 4 Military Governors of the 4 Regions agreed with him that he can do so

After they returned to Nigeria, Gowon simultaneously enacted Decree 14 that abolished all 4 Regions and replaced them with 12 states, and Decree 15 that ended resource control

You’re missing the point entirely.
After Gowon failed to honour the agreements of the Aburi Accord, the Eastern Nigeria Consultantative House of Assembly which was made up of all ethnic groups in Eastern region passed a resolution which compelled Ojukwu — by a unanimous decision to declare Biafra.
Every tribe stood behind that call.

If Ojukwu had gone ahead to accept the oil for weapons deals on his own , it would have meant betraying the very people who gave him that mandate. And where we come from, betrayal is an abomination.

Thats another reason why they will never teach Nigerian history. A lot of people still think that Ojukwu just got up, declared Biafra for no reason, and without any mandate to do so

They dont realise that it was the breaking of the Aburi accord by Gowon that prompted the Eastern Nigerian Consultative Forum to seat, deliberate, and mandate Ojukwu to declare the Eastern Region a seperate country

Was it Worth it to go to war over the Aburi accord? The people that signed were not elected so it was not surprising that the politicians directed Gowon to reject it. Then the people given new states wanted it

That question is for Gowon who broke the agreement he signed. Some of you still think Gowon fought for 'one Nigeria'. Gowon fought for 'one Nigeria under the North'. The war was all about making the North masters of Nigeria.

There was competition among the Nigerian ethnic groups but Gowon himself is a Northern Christian and not a proper member of the Muslim North. His people are killed during riots as well. He was not necessarily working for the core North. The north was split too into west central and etc. What Colonel Ojukwu should have done was to insist on a referendum before state creation and that would have set a precedent. However we can't go back to yesterday.
