Which Side Hustle Can Sustain My Family by Telltruth123(op):
Please Nairaland members, please which side hustle can I do that can sustain my family. I am a graduate that works from Monday to Saturday but the salary is not sustainable, reality Dawn on me when my daughter gained admission to university last month, I borrowed money to pay acceptance fee and the school fees is yet to be paid.
I have realized that my salary cannot sustain the family and I don't want to live a life of begging people for help, I want to work and be able to provide for my family. We cannot afford fish or meat , I collected salary last month end, and I used it to pay for debt for acceptance fees
We moved to our uncompleted building where we are managing one room, for the past two months now when there is no light, we beg people to fetch water because we don't have borehole, some people will not give us due to the present situation of the country, we go far away to fetch water and you can't go there until after 3 days, it's like to be a life human being is war.

My husband do commercial bus driver, after paying the owner of the bus daily, he gives us N1,000 or N1,200 which cannot sustain us, he said he also take N1,000 for food. Nairaland members have helped me but I want my own work to be able to sustain me, since yesterday, I have been worried because my daughter that gained admission will start asking for money.
Please anybody that can help me with side hustle I can do, am ready to learn, I don't want to beg, I want my work to be able to sustain the family, I manage the little resource I have but it cannot sustain us.
Thank you

Weldone for your efforts to start some as side hustle

You can be doing pap and distribute to neighbourhoods

You can fry grandnuts and bottle them neatly and sell in your area

You can also buy those black ponmo and soak them as they do and sell them, but you need someone to teach you the trade

May God help you with ideas

OP, I am curious about the emboldened. If you are graduate, then what is your husband's qualification? What sort of job do you do and how much do you earn monthly? The 1K your husband gives you daily is supposed to provide for how many family members? After using 1K to eat his own food, will he also join you guys to eat at home? Why can't he give you more, so you can cook and package some for him to eat later?

Additionally, why are you the one carrying the family's financial burdens? Why can't your husband do more to sustain the family? You are getting yourself worked up, and I find it interesting that you guys started a building project. The truth is, you should never have embarked on that project; considering your financial constraints. It is good to own a house, but not at the expense of your immediate needs. My advice is for you to put the house up for sale,, use the proceeds and do one of those bank investments that guarantees at least 5% monthly interest. That should ease off some of your financial burdens. With time, you will be able to own another land and start another building project. You can't have over ten million naira asset at your disposal and still be crying for money.

So sorry you are going through this.
The question should be what kind business moves in your vicinity? What kind of business can you conveniently combine with working 6days a week without breaking down?

It has to be something solely sales oriented and to do it in a way that can cater for your family would be medium scale. You have how many kids?

Also your husband is not being sincere. Korope takes 8 passengers per trip. I don't believe he wakes up everyday to drive bus from morning to night for 2k. The bulk of his earnings is definitely going to your co-wife because he knows you can adapt.

I will advise you take the suggestion for your daughter to apply for student loan/ scholarships. You can create a thread in Education section. Let the students in same shoe advise you.

Does your daughter have a skill?
My cousin teaches lessons to make his feeding money. He has been doing it since SS3. Sadly she cannot afford to be a child. So if she can braid hair or knit, she has to put those skills into use to make money legally and honourably.

How much do you have for business and are your interests?

Thank you very much ma, the pap aspect, we find it difficult to get water to use at home, people complain of the cost of light and and recently there is no light, people rent generator to pump water.
Ma, do you have experience in the Pomo business, I am ready to learn.

well mostly I am always at work, I go out in the morning and come back at night from Monday to Saturday. I hear about freelance and other online jobs if somebody can put me through personally.
Thank you very much ma, my husband collected mini bus on hire purchase, when he was about to finish the payment, the bus had accident and he could not repair it so the owner collected it. The bus he is driving presently is always giving to him half day because the owner is also using it.
He said he doesn't want to take a bus on hire purchase again that if he prefers a daily deliver.
Concerning my daughter, she didn't have skill work, when I wanted to put her in hairdressing training, her daddy did not agree with me, he said it will distract her from studying but presently when she go to school, I have told her she will start learning, because reality has dawn on me I don't think I can foot all the bills.
Thank you very much for your concern.

Then you two have to put head together to find a way. Working half day for 2k is not it. Even labourers earns more.

As for freelance and online jobs, it is not something you enter and start cashing out tomorrow. You need to have a marketable skill or learn one. Either way, it isn't easy. You need a skill, time, data and work tools (laptop especially). There are some people do with phones, but I don't know anything about it. I am sure you will find something if you search Nairaland.

We have tried to apply but they are requesting for matriculation number, I think it's not for freshers because before she gets matriculation number, she has to complete her school fees payment.

list your marketable skills. what can you do that someone else is willing to pay for? do you. have a university degree? can you type? do you have any technical skills? don't overestimate your capabilities.

your daughter's university admission is an asset not a financial burden. what is she studying? i hope its a stem course not some dei shmit

start a small-scale food vending business (if you can cook) focus on high-demand, low-cost items like akara, okpa.

offer laundry or cleaning services to your neighbors around your area.

your husband is not very sincere with you, bro might bring half money to the table and the other fit end for sporty or fish mouth.

I have HND in Accounting, I have worked as an account officer which I have 7 years of experience but I was underemployed with salary of N30,000 I left in 2021.
Presently I am doing sales representative and my daughter is studying Entrepreneurship.
I have sold food before, I rented a space in a market I would cook from home and take it to the market, but some area boys frustrated my life because I refuse to date one of them and my husband stopped me from selling food.
If I see remote job, I will really appreciate it, I am very hard working.
Thank you sir.

I don't see this as a very good advise, no offence. Selling the only property (to the best of my knowledge though) to for an investment they know nothing about. By the time they even use part of the money to rent an apartment, pay off loans and pay university expenses, they may not even have much left to invest. A better but still not ideal option might be to use the house as a collateral for a loan which they can use to start a business that they actually know about. Or the wife can look for a better job from influential friends and family, but I definitely will not advise them selling their house.

She has given more depth. In the absence of that, there is no way a bus driver is making N2000 a day in this Nigeria where transportation fare has gone 6x. It is IMPOSSIBLE.

Yea right... And while she is looking for a better job, her husband would be giving N1200 daily for a family of 5. Clap for yourself.

You are not alone brother. Once I cum, I hate to see them around until I met the soon to be mother of my son. It was a fling but I found myself not irritated by her presence that we talked politics, religion and stuff. There are still boundaries and no love involved but for the first time in many years, a v@gina person is not irritating me and I like to be associated with her because of her mentality and she is drop dead fine too, my spec, slim body, sizeable bo0bs. I casually asked if she was willing to give me a son one day, she agreed and that's how she is pregnant now after we had some agreements signed. No marriage plans and no relationship plans, just two mature people living their free lives. When scan showed it was a baby boy, I went crazy and surprised her. I'm now walking around with my shoulder high.

When some of us here warned that men should not take their wives abroad, I'm sure you were among those that called us misogynists. Now it has happened to you and you're crying. My friend, carry your cross and I hope others like you will learn a lesson. Very soon, she will claim you are abusing her and the government will send you out of your own house and possibly back home too. It's not my prayer for you but the situation you are in now is heading that way so brace up.

He did not force you, you had to obey him and follow his rules which is why he is your lord and master. What dafack is wrong with these women? When did it become a crime for a man to have concubines or is it because it's now been nicknamed sidechicks?

No man married a woman to be beating her. Women have put men in difficult positions in this life. Paternity fraud is a menace to our generation. Do I blame the man for beating her? Yes, he should have put control to his emotions and send the hoe away instead of beating her. No woman no cry. I'll rather have a chimpanzee than have a wife

I used to love too but I later realized that eventhough my love was genuine, hers was scam and since then, I don't ever believe genuine exists in the heart of a woman. When I remember a good sex, I miss it, not the woman involved.

It is always your audacity for me.
Trying to act like you love women or marriage.
